Spells like this, with a decent effect that doesn't have concentration and only cost a first level spell slot at base, have a lot of potential, but they also carry an opportunity cost. For bards and rangers, that cost is one of your known spells. For artificers and rangers, that cost is one of your few half-caster spell slots. For wizards and druids, that cost is one of your prepared spells. It's 100 percent worth the spell slot. But is it worth these other opportunity costs? That's where things get dicey for me.

Longstrider goes very well with already improved speed and features that use your BA for disengage or dash. Nothing quite like making enemies have to dash if they want to catch up to the PC. Pair it with Mobility on an rogue for some serious hit and run tactics.

back in the haste video, i suggested a 125 MPH Tabaxi for a turn. I had forgotten about longstrider. Throw that in the mix and it becomes 147 MPH. 1300 feet in one 6-second turn.

I lover this as a druid! Cast it a lot at earlier level with barkskin and had a panther or axe beak with 60ft speed and 16 AC. Chasing thing thing on the battlefield, or a riding horse or camel. Later id use it on othe party members to enhance also the dire wolf or giant octopus or lion forms. Great cheap spell usefull at all levels. Have a dwarf or halflibg mele ttpe on tour party? Give them 35 ft speed!

6/10 - Extra movement is nice but it's not really something you'll prepare or learn over most other spells. 5e doesn't make use of movement much, once you get into place you basically just stay there most of the fight. The opportunity cost for this spell is just way too high. It's giving up a spell prepared (or worse, learned) as well as the action economy of your action during the first turn of combat. Granted the spell lasts an hour but unless you're expecting the fight beforehand it's unlikely you'll cast this spell before the fight. One thing to note is that this spell isn't concentration and doesn't specify that the spell ends if you recast it. So the Upcast option is basically useless since you can just cast the same spell again with a lower level slot for the same benefits.

it's not a bad spell but how often do you actually need +10feet of movement versus a Silvery Barbs? 1st level spells both slots and prep slots have a lot of competition. It still does what it does well and wil lbe useful in its niche but it's just not worth the opportunity cost of prepping other spells in most cases. 6/10 - wizards - get this spell but only prep it conditionally, prep only casters only prep it conditionally, bards and rangers don't take this

The only reason why you may not want to cast this spell is because of resources (aka your spellslots). Thats the only reason. Worldbuildingwise it makes sport events a bit more challenging but it is kinda like doping. Great on defense Good on offense Good utility It may be the different between life and death. 9.5/10 The only downside to this spell is that you need to be decent on what you are trying to do anyways so the 10ft may not matter as much. Have a nice day AEther

Unfortunately spells don’t stack on themselves. I believe that was mentioned in the official errata
