The Sega Genesis Model 1 and 2 are works of art just in design and aesthetics alone. But also had one of the greatest game libraries in home console history. I’m glad there’s still products being released for it.

Thanks Lon for this review as I’m a huge fan of the Sega cd. For the price and some of the minor issues that may occur I’d still would refer to the original hardware. I have a model 1 n 2 segacd and a cdx and JVC xeye.

Impressive it works so well. Price not so impressive, but I understand the tech doesn't come cheap. I'm a humongous Genesis fan, but Emulation is definitely good for me until prices drop on all that FPGA stuff.

I have the terra onion and did latest update. When I play sega cd, I can't hear the music in the game. I can hear sounds like when sonic jumps, but I can't hear the music in any of the games. What am I doing wrong? I've tried picking all the different bios to see if that would be the difference, but have had no luck.

Be careful guys, I was really excited about this and got my pre order in early, sadly this is looking like a mistake as Terra Onion are proving to be incredibly shady. At the pre order stage the Mega SD was advertised as coming from Spain and all EU customers would get tax free delivery, then in the interim between order and delivery the company relocated to Andorra and now everyone is facing customs charges of 60 euros or more. That plus I’m still waiting now for my pre order despite an early August delivery date set.

Honestly for $260 the adapter should have come in the box or it should have been designed to just interface with the expansion slot in the first place. That's a pretty glaring oversight if you ask me.
@samfrito5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but for the very very few games that use that 32x/Sega Cd configuration it probably saved Terraonion from upping the cost by $20 or more just so you could play Corpse Killer and Supreme Warrior. Just saying, very limited offerings. More power to you if you like those games.
@Dessan015 жыл бұрын
They didn’t mind slipping off to Andorra between the pre-order and shipping stage and adding an extra £60 to the bill for anyone living in the EU with taxes ;)

@@slappingvegans7940 I do have a pi and emulate for free, but i do like having the hardware
@slappingvegans79405 жыл бұрын
@@AlanThompsonRegularNintendo Save your money. Owning the hardware just means that you are wasting money. Think about how big your backlog of unfinished/unplayed games is. Also, think back to before 2011, before the KZbin retro game collectors... No one cared about physical hardware until KZbinrs told people to collect, thus driving up prices like crazy in order for them to justify their collections. Up until then, everyone was emulating and everyone was perfectly happy. Invest in a car or new girlfriend instead of blowing $250 on a flash card. Just my friendly advice. 😀
@slappingvegans79405 жыл бұрын
@alak58 Funny... Video game companies seem to disagree with you. They always use emulators . Nes mini, xbox backwards compatibility, virtual console, Retron 5 , PS Now , and the list goes on and on !!!

@@slappingvegans7940 lol today is my 40th birthday and have been collecting since around 1997. For me it is a fun Hobby. I love collecting or trying to find something at a good deal at a flea market or whatever. Lol I do appreciate the advice, but i do love having the physical games on my shelf to pop in and play when I want. I do have every which way to play them emulation wise also. I just love old school games any which way I can play them, and want them to be as lag free and original as possible😊😎

i guess for that price, most people would want it to run the game rom as a standalone console.

Reesey Me if you already have all the hardware then this is a must. I am already invested with a model 1 genesis and some hd retrovision component cables. All I need now is this fpga to give me a great sega cd experience. I also have the everdrive x5 which can sell to offset some of the price.

Does it emulate the Sega CD ram cart? It's supposed to enable extra content on certain games(like dune)
@LonSeidman5 жыл бұрын
Yes it works as a CD ram cart - each game can get its own save space. I am not sure if that functionality added extra features like it did on the Saturn I’ll have to look into that.
@Sheepy0075 жыл бұрын
Lon.TV some games like Shining Force CD could only be finished with the expansion cart. The game had multiple chapters and to unlock the last 2 chapters you needed save files from the previous 2 to carry over and for that you needed the backup cart. Without it you simply can not see the end of the game

@Lon.TV Lon, you really should do a follow up video explaining the legalities of owning the games you emulate. Otherwise there is potential for a piracy issue. Otherwise Great review! Amazing hardware!
@wizemonk49255 жыл бұрын
the world knows by now about the issuse of rom piracy also listen and watch more closey he cleary states he ripped games from original cd piracy in todays market is ok what im supposed to shell out hundreds dollars pounds for games which are old anyway and used no thanks also you do relise sega cd has no piracy protection you can burn games onto blanke cds and play them its been done for 20 years!! wayyyyyy before mega sd my advice stop worrying about piracy your only one who does how silly bet your that type who runs to the boss if someone keeps a pen or paper clip
@LonSeidman5 жыл бұрын
I have long advocated for developers to legally release rom files, they don’t for the most part (sega is the exception). Of note : original devs are making nothing from resale of used games either.
@wizemonk49255 жыл бұрын
forgive me for jumping in but id like to say thats great point if i say buy from ebay sega doesnt not receive a penny from me also theres high risk your buying a fake add to this what if i brought say sonic when it 1st came out all those years ago iv brought it so years later even tho i dnt own cartridge dnt i own it in rom form its huge grey area i think with huge prices of games its fair thing to do also its preserving the games cartridges cds dnt last for ever people know about piracy dnt worry just keep making great videos how people choose to play retro games is up to them its out of your hands
