A few years ago, I grew my hair to donate to charity(about 20 inches).The salon I went to to get all my hair cut off, did so for free, because they knew I was going to do that. The stylist separated my hair into 7 ponytails in order to cut neatly. My friend told me that it reminded her of Samson, who had 7 braids, and that my hair is what she imagined Samson's to look like. As a Christian, that was the most beautiful compliment I ever received, and I'll never forget it.

That's the reason I started growing my dreads because of the story of Samson. Anytime I was in a relationship and something bad happened I'd "punish" myself by cutting my hair. This led to me feeling powerless but now that I've had my locs I don't feel accomplished so to speak but I do feel a bit stronger and at ease.
