My Daughter is 32 and because of myself and her stepdad, she loves old furniture. She grew up with our house that was built in the later 1800’s. It had a tavern which I opened as a tea shop. I made all my own teas and desserts. I used all vintage teapots and cups. This is when she got a love for old furniture and glassware.

My grandfather was a rockhound. He & my grandmother traveled all over the world rock hounding. One of my favorite memories from my childhood was working out in the shop with him. He’d let me use his tumbler to polish rocks, etc. He made beautiful opal jewelry, along with other stones. I was always in awe of his crystal & rock collection. I wish I would’ve asked more questions back then because it’s such a fascinating thing to do, but I was only six or seven years old. Anyway, I loved that you showcased the rocks & crystals. I have collected christening gowns for many years. Machine made lace was exported from Switzerland in 1860's. Have the same thoughts as you ladies, believe that to be a christening ensemble. Being mostly all handmade, called love clothes because of the time involved in making. I would snap this up in a heartbeat if lived closer. Many warmer climates made an 18 inch skirt version length. Love his videos❤. Have a blessed days.

Thank you, George! I found a Roseville Donatello vase quite awhile ago not knowing what it was (before I learned about Google lens) and picked it up for $2.99 because despite 2 chips and a small hairline crack, it was just so interesting. I grabbed it but held onto it because of what you spoke on regarding seller's responsiblity to be knowledgeable about their items. With the damage, I won't make a huge profit, but I'll now be able to accurately describe it.

Good evening, George! That Victorian opera lamp was really pretty. That seemed a good price on it. I liked that chair next to the lamp, too. I have a water set in the green, of the U. S. Glass "Delaware" pattern, like was in the vitrine. I would've had to have bought that Bristol vase. At $16.00, I wouldn't have been able to pass it. I really like Bristol glass. I have a complete set of the Wade nursery rhyme pieces. I display them in an old printer's drawer hung on the wall, along with quite a number of old wood spools that still have the thread on them. The old wood spools, with the thread still on, makes a nice colourful display. I liked that goat "Bucking In" mug. I'd like to have an older AH "Rings" beverage set. I'm not too fond of ice lips on pitchers. I liked that walnut surround pin cushion. Loved that mermaid clock! I'd move something to place that one! I've always wanted one of those wood butter churns. You were SPOT ON with what you said about knowing your stuff! I loved that blue pitcher, with the floral pattern, on the shelves with the old photos. Jewel Antique Mall looks to be a fantastic place to shop! Thanks for the take-a-long!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad to hear someone say they like Bristol too! I have always thought it was the most underrated Victorian art glass. I have a relative with a Wade set too, I remember how hard it was to complete in the time before eBay! I like the A-H rings a lot, I collect Manhattan so not surprising I suppose. Everyone flipped for the mermaid! I finally got to own a nice printed butter churn a few years back. I know you would really like this place! Thank you for your concurrence with my little rant. It's fine to make mistakes, not know everything and have to learn as you go!-but it's not fine to not even try and leave your unsuspecting buyer holding the bag for your ignorance.
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS Жыл бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad Bristol has a distinct look that can't be confused with any other glass. It doesn't matter to me if it is English or American, either...they're actually impossible, for me, to tell apart from one another. The Wade nursery rhyme set is the only set that has ever interested me enough to complete the set. I like most all of the Wade whimseys, but the nursery rhyme set is my favourite. I have a Tom and Jerry set in the Wade figures, too. It's only the two pieces. That mermaid clock was OTT fantastic! It's no surprise everyone flipped over it. Yeah, mistakes will always be a part of being human, but all it takes is a little research to learn about any item. There are way too many resources available to get information on ANYTHING these days to not take advantage of them. Not being willing to take a few minutes to get information can result in selling the customer, as well as yourself, short.

I've been saying the exact same thing about 80s Santa Fe style. It's been pretty much forgotten, but I could see it coming back. As a dealer it's kind of frustrating because there is so much out there that will come back at some point, but no point in investing in it because you just don't know exactly when that will be. Sadly, I pass up stuff I actually like but just isn't valuable yet. I just saw a 1980s catalog of companies that designed or wholesaled Santa Fe style. Thanks to this video, I'm now regretting that I didn't pick it up. :/

Hi there! Vaseline (yellow-green) art glass of the Victorian era sold for more because they liked the color. 1930s depression green glass was inexpensive new, a lot of basic pieces were even given away free. 1970s-on vaseline glass, Fenton custard, etc. was made to be collected and was more expensive.

@TheAntiqueNomad Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Pickle castors are great Victorian art glass, if they're real and not reproductions or replacement liners (if the glass doesn't securely fit the bale or the lid, it isn't original!) . The presence of those non-original ones really brought down the value of these 1870s-90s beauties so they might be a deal now , Check current sold values and you'll get a feel for today's market
