Chief, just want to share, there are quite many Dutch soldiers during the Indonesian War (also Japanese and Korean soldier) who choose to fight for Indonesia during the Indonesian War. In particular I would like to share a story of one person, his name is Johannes Cornelis Princen (also known as Poncke Princen). During WW2, he was arrested by Nazi in the Netherlands. After the war he was conscripted by the Dutch govt and sent to Indonesia. At one point of time, he decided to join Indonesian Army (TNI), awarded Guerilla Star. After the war, he become lawyer and human right activists. Imprisoned (quite many times) for his critics during both Soekarno era and Soeharto era. He also one of national figures who support the 1998 student movement “Reformasi”. He was a true human right activist. He passed away in 2002, renounced his spot at Heroes Cemetery of Kalibata and wished to laid rest at general cemetery of Pondok Kelapa instead. My generation still know him, but I don’t know about younger generation..please don’t forget his name.

Bella Vista had a long story. As I read in few articles, it was built in Dutch colonialism and was a villa with nice view, before many buildings surround it. Long after that, the house has been change functions to office, house, and in around 1990s was an IT school (as the man mentioned in video-university). But it's been abandoned since 1998. Correct me if I'm wrong 😁

I think, when Indonesians talk about "after the war" it means more accurately the war between Indonesia and the Dutch Colonies, especially after the 1st & 2nd Dutch military aggression.

It feels weird to see someone from the internet exploring places that are close to my heart. (If you are still in malang, if you want, pls go to that restaurant next to SMA 1 (near alun-alum tugu) called Kertanegara. They serve good javanese foods. A bit pricey yes but i like taking my family there once in a while especially when i am in malang). You know, i dont know how youtube algorithms works, but i think i found your youtube channel almost a year ago?!?! That was when you said you moved to indonesia (i was unemployed, i resigned from a job that i hated in jakarta and went back home to malang so i had ample of free times to watch videos on youtube lol). Around this time last year, i also went to bali for some time to refresh my mind (and i always always love Bali, canggu, seminyak) and so watching your videos about Bali makes me happy. And then soon after that i got a new job in jakarta, and i get really busy sometimes.. but once in a while i still watch your videos (i dont know why, but i like finding out whats happening in bali on youtube, and yours is one of the channels that i like to watch). When in malang, i go to that bird market to buy foods for our cat(s) at home. Alun alun tugu, kampung warna warni, kampung heritage (close to pasar besar malang), alun alun malang.. oh it is very weird. Are you still in malang?! There are very nice beaches in the South. My mom and little sister can take you there if you want (but they dont speak english 😁) but they are very kind and good with strangers 😅 you should go to Bromo too.. and you even talk about going to Maluku too (i cant wait to see the videos, i havent been there for a loooong time).

Hi Nick.. this is the article about historical of the building. I tried copy the link below my comment twice but always disepear.. I dont know why.. Hope it will help you out.. 😊👇 The atmosphere is seen in front of the Bella-Vista Villa Building on Jalan Gajahmada, Malang City, Sunday (13/2/2022). (Photo: Rizky Kurniawan Pratama/TIMES Indonesia) Located on Jalan Gajahmada, which is exactly behind the Malang City DPRD building, you can see a magnificent old villa with the words Bella-Vista written on it . This villa is a Dutch heritage building that was built before the Balai building, to be precise around 1920-1925 ago. The building, which now looks abandoned without maintenance, has a long history since it was first established. Secretary of the Malang City Cultural Conservation Expert Team (TACB), Agung Buana said that since its inception the building was used as a resting place or a villa house overlooking the Brantas River. "The Brantas River when viewed from Bella-Vista is higher and the view is better when facing south. So it's a house on the banks of the Brantas river," Agung said when confirmed, Sunday (13/3/2022). The Oranjebuurt area uses street names with the names of members of the Dutch royal family. Such as Wilhelmina Straat (now Jl Dr Cipto), Juliana Straat (now Jl RA Kartini), Emma Straat (now Jl dr Sutomo), Willem Straat (now Jl Diponegoro), Maurits Straat (now Jl MH Thamrin) and Sophia Straat (now Jl. Cokroaminoto). "Our guess is that maybe the development process (Bouwplan I) needs a model. The Bella-Vista house is an example of a house, so like the construction of a house on Jl RA Kartini (previously Juliana Straat), the example is Bella-Vista," he said. As a pilot house for the Bouwplan I design, said Agung, this old Bella-Vista house is not necessarily the first house with original Dutch architecture. Because, explained Agung, before there was Bella-Vista, the first Dutch house in Malang City was located in the area of Jalan Juanda, Martadinata to Kebalen or commonly called the Old City area. Because in the history of Dutch colonialism to Indonesia, especially in Malang City, the birth of Bouwplan I onwards gave rise to groups or Dutch housing complexes in Malang City. "In front of Bella-Vista, slightly to the east, there is a Dutch hotel in front of the Aloha (Hotel) which extends to the former Inggil Restaurant. The two complexes left and right of Inggil are the Dutch Hotel," he explained. Ever Stopped by the First President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir Soekarno The history of the inauguration of the Tugu Square by Bung Karno in 1953 ago, it turns out that there is a connection with Bella-Vista's old house. Because, in its history, thousands of people wanted Bung Karno to make a speech directly in front of the people of Malang City at Tugu Malang Square. "An impromptu podium was made by Arab scouting for Bung Karmo so he could make a speech in the middle of the field," he said. After that, it was suspected that after inaugurating the Malang Tugu Square, Bung Karno stopped at Bella-Vista Villa before returning to Surabaya by train. "So we just stopped by, but it didn't take long, only for a moment. Because after that Bung Karno had to return to Surabaya," he added. The Development of Bella-Vista Villas from Time to Time Until Finally Abandoned Bella-Vista villa, which was founded in the 1920s, was known to be still inhabited by a Dutch family until 1942. However, in the history of civilization, in the era of 1942-1945 it was used by the Japanese when they entered Indonesian territory as a supporting office. "Then since Japan left Indonesia in 1945, Bella-Vista has been neglected, because at that time it was an unclear period, 1945-1949," he said. Then, after being abandoned for a while, Vila Bella-Vista was taken over by the natives and lived in for a while. "Then in the 1970s, the information was bought by rich people in the past and eventually became one of their assets," he said. However, because the rich person, who cannot be identified, lives in Jakarta, Villa Bella-Vista has finally become unkempt. However, around the 1990s, it turned out that Vila Bella-Vista had become a place for courses on computers until 1998. It looks real, because until now on the entrance wall or living room, the words 'Information Center, STT Inst Kom' are still visible. started to fade. "After that, people contracted it, but only for one to two years, then many of them are empty until now," he added. If observed, the Bella-Vista Villa has never been changed in terms of the shape of the building. However, according to Agung, many of the old building ornaments were taken by irresponsible people. "Seeing it is still original, but inside many have been lost," he said. On the other hand, regarding the Cultural Conservation, continued Agung, the actual building of the house could be included in the Cultural Conservation category. Judging from the criteria according to the law, if it was built for more than 50 years, has a certain architecture and historical value related to Bouwplan I, it should be included in the Cultural Conservation. "Dutch architects in Indonesia are indeed experiencing development. Usually they use the Indische Empire Style which is modeled on large pillars. Starting from the tapered roof, pristine, spacious room, back well until there is a pavilion behind the house. That's a feature of Dutch architecture," he said after explaining The history of Bella-Vista Villa in Malang. (*)

in my opinion, "after war " has meaning before proclamation until november 10th, because before we have battle several times like java oorlog (java war 1825-1830), bali puputan. in netherland they never say after 1945-ish are war, they called police act (operation kraai). by the way in history subject, they almost mention about the event before indonesian independent more often rather than history event after 1946-1949 because it's too long or maybe to give a lot of influence for local heroes. that's my opinion
