What is GMRS, FRS and MURS? I added the GMRS, FRS and MURS frequencies to my AnyTone AT 778UV II. I was curious to see what activity if any was on these frequencies.

I my gmrs license back in 2022, I have a base setup with a KB9VBR J pole, it has become very useful for cbers here in Pahrump nv during skip conditions when we can’t talk locally, we just use the gmrs and is easy to get up and running as a base, I’m able to hit the three repeaters in our area and the antenna is inside the house.

That's great, until recently I never that GMRS used repeaters. It sounds like the J-Pole antenna works great for you. Building a J-Pole antenna is on my list of things to do. Thanks for watching!

I realize this video is a couple months old but in case not too many folks are aware that FRS shares channels with GMRS and both can communicate with each other.

Thanks for posting this, I should have mentioned this. I wasnt aware till I looked at the frequencies used for both services. 73s!

Great video! Does this radio come unlocked to transmit on GMRS? Or can I easily unlock in software?
@RidgeHikerAdventures6 ай бұрын
I believe mine was already unlocked. If not, I've seen videos on KZbin showing the procedure to unlock the radio. It's done through the radio. These are the frequencies available on my radio: UHF{Rx(400 - 490 MHz) Tx(400 - 490 MHz)} VHF{Rx(136 - 174 MHz) Tx(136 - 174 MHz)} Thanks for watching!

KJ5EHK/WRZN266, I have the same Anytone radio and I use it as a base station. Works very well. I have it programmed with gmrs/frs/murs and it works quite well with the right antenna. I also use the b tech 50x3 in my truck as a mobile and it’s awesome. I like the Chinese stuff as it is not type blocked like “mainstream” radios which allows you to transmit on the other frequencies without having separate radios. Much more better😂

It's a nice little radio paired with my horizonal dipole antenna. It's a great sounding radio. Thanks for watching, 73s!

How do you get the knob to control the volume?
@RidgeHikerAdventures6 ай бұрын
You can program the function buttons to your own preferences. Thanks for watching!

I just use Murs except nobody really uses it here in southeastern Wisconsin and all other than Walmart and that really sucks I wish there were people that could come up with ways to link all that stuff through the internet and run one of those Murs Nets
@RidgeHikerAdventures6 ай бұрын
I’m surprised Murs is not used more. I think the frequencies over the years have been forgotten. Like you, I have heard it used by Walmart. I’ve scanned the frequencies when stopped at road construction thinking it might be being used but heard nothing. Other than Walmart, I’ve never heard any activity. Thanks for watching!

@@RidgeHikerAdventures I only hear FRS being used at construction sites, and stores.

I'm in Southeastern Wisconsin. Is there a repeater that you like to use in this area?
@preppinglife6243 ай бұрын
Generally speaking I wait till the end of a video before making comments. However I would like to point out that it is entirely possible to program that same any tone manually with the keypad on the microphone and using the special function buttons whatever they're called. And I know that because that's how I have programmed to get a hold of all of my local repeaters
