Great vid! I was part of the test group when these units were in development. Totally awesome product. Turned my Forester into a total beast off-road. Top tip is the install of solid mounts or a brace for the carrier. Without a brace or refreshed mounts the carrier could see unwanted movement under load (mine did). Best of luck with the install!

We have a lot diff lokers, which produces in Russia. For a front and rear diffs, and they are different costructions. One locker costs about 200 usd. I have a quife type lockers on front and rear diffs on my lifted subaru legacy bl5, which i installed by myself. Every subaru must have lockers, i think😊

Good information!! Thank you for sharing that info! this was my first time hearing about the bushings and possibly adding a brace to the rear diff. Would running the diff brace interfere or be compatible with the primitive racing rear diff skid plates?

Is the clicking noise from the locker permanent or will it ever go away.
@nickyclub444 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand, it's permanent.
@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
As stated by Nick, it is a permeant feature. Its simply how the locker is designed that it ratchets in corners and creates the clicking noise.

@ignitionoffroad50282 жыл бұрын
@@crxtodd16 partly the loud clicking while cornering, but mostly the rest of my driveline modifications (20kg centre diff/front LSD) in combination with the locker meant the driveline locked up really easy and often jolted the car on sharp turns.

So do you need a torq locker if you have x mode?
@ignitionoffroad50283 жыл бұрын
The torq locker will be more effective off road as it is a true diff locker but if your only driving sand and gravel roads there’s probably not much point getting one. It really depends what trails you plan to drive with your vehicle.

Would this work in the center diff or front?
@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
No, this works for the rear diff only. Front and center are a different diff design.
@1978JWJ4 жыл бұрын
my question to you is this, is it really worth the money to add this IF you havent done something to the center diff to actually get power to the rear? With no way to select a true locked up 50/50 power split. I dont see how a rear locker helps that much, the torque bind is just going to cause the center diff to slip and make the front work harder, which unless you have a front LSD you are still SOL with only 1 wheel spinning. Am I wrong in this?
@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
1978JWJ is it worth investing in if you haven’t modified the centre? Yes, check out this video and you’ll see the difference between open/VLSD/torq locker kzbin.info/www/bejne/on-1oYV_mZqKi8U My findings with the locker so far are that the 20kg centre does cause the locker to bind up a bit on tight corners causing the car to jolt. It’s also quite noisy so I wouldn’t recommend it for a daily driver. Offroad the locker is an absolute weapon however and works brilliantly

This is not the first diff locker for a Subaru. The first diff locker for a Subaru used a solid axle Toyota diff converted to IRS with an air locker centre. The first Subaru using a Subaru diff with an e-locker was done about a few years ago. This is in my car. Following these, there is also a Subaru with a Subaru diff and an air locker. All are much better designs than this. And my car is quite happy with the old bushes.
@ignitionoffroad50285 жыл бұрын
Tony N you are quite right that others have previously fitted lockers to their Subaru’s and your build is definitely an inspiration to me! What I am trying to say in this video is that the Torq Locker is the first purpose built Subaru locker. The diff bushes are only known to effect the ratcheting component of the torq locker so this isn’t a problem you would have
