Here I go into detail about the 1997 smash hit The Lost World: Jurassic Park. This isn't a movie review or anything of the sort and really just a discussion and celebration of a movie I've loved for 20 years now. Now a review for this film I HIGHLY recommend is Chris Stuckmann's who'll link down below.
• The Lost World: Jurass...
Jurassic Park Remix by GANGKREW
The Lost World Jurassic Park is a film that devles into Ian Malcolm Chaos Theory and takes place on Jurassic Park Site B. A great tag for this video would be Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Sorna because it usually works. One of the best things about this film are the Jeff Goldblum quotes Jurassic Park. But seriously its an underrated film sequel and honestly one of the better sequels in the franchise. Who could forget the epic line of Mommy's Very Angry? Or the dude that shocked the compy, the lost world dieter. One cool thing to see in a future film would be Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Nick Van Owen, but that shit will never happen. All this stuff is on Ingen Site B or Jurassic Park Site B whatever you wanna call it. The Lost World: Jurassic Park is epic, I love it. Jeff Goldblum Jurassic Park you're amazing.

You know, I never considered Ian's daughter could be adopted - I just assumed her mother was black and she inherited more of her mother's skin tone, which is not unheard of.

Every time I watch one of your videos, I swear you're my brother from another mother. I was 8 when Jurassic Park first premiered, and having already been a long-time dinosaur enthusiast, it was an instant classic for me. When the The Lost World came out four years later, I thought it to be the PERFECT Jurassic Park sequel. In the first movie, the dinosaurs were enclosed in a park built by humans, but then things go horribly wrong thanks to one overly ambitious employee. In the second movie, however, you're on THEIR turf. No fences. No rules. No regulations. And most importantly, no protection. The fact that The Lost World not only had more dinosaurs, but also species of dinosaurs was an added bonus. The third act might be heavily criticized, but I thought it was perfect. It basically answered the question we had all been asking since the original film. What if the biggest and baddest dinosaur managed to reach the mainland? It worked. And worked even better when folks thought the film was already over and it came as a surprise. In all honesty, I feel like if they had nixed JP3, and instead made Jurassic World, they could have stopped it there and made a solid trilogy. One that would remain timeless for not just dinosaur fans like us, but for film buffs for generations. On a side note. I'm extremely impressed by your work! In a matter of months, you managed to accomplish what took me four years to do over the course of my seven-year-long career on KZbin. You produce quality content, and the viewers have clearly noticed! You should be very proud of yourself and the work you've done. I'm certainly impressed! Question. Have you set up a Twitter account yet so that your fans can follow you? If so, you should. I would happily promote it. One other questions. You've inspired me to start doing my own dino series on my channel starting in 2018. Not in reference to Jurassic Park like you, but solely in terms of dinosaurs in general. With your permission, I'd love to promote your site on my own channel. Keep up the amazing work, and I look forward to your next video! Seriously, I haven't binge watched something this much since Stranger Things ;-)

I'm so glad to hear you say all this. I drive a JP vehicle and occasionally take it to dinosaur themed events. I'm so tried of hearing people sneer at 2, 3 and JW, it really brings these events down for me. Why?! They weren't scientific documentaries, they were Speilberg movies. ...damned good ones. I think over time people invest themselves in a movie too much and are no longer entertained by just watching it. Now they can only feel good when ripping into something they've spent too much time overthinking.

People hate that scene because it's completely stupid. A full-grown velociraptor is the size, if not quite the weight, of a full grown man. When she kicks it, the thing flies out of the window like a car hit it, even propelling it through a window? From the force generated by a small girl? Reminds me of the awful Charlie's Angels physics where a small woman weighing barely 8 stone even soaking wet could flying-kick open a locked door that also had a man leaning against it, in the direction it opened. Thankfully, some people understand physics. Those people aren't directing movies, sadly.
@KRSsven
@KRSsven 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but basic physics doesn't support any of that. They had Kelly do that silly acrobatics because they had zero for her to do in the film, unlike the kids in the novel. It's nothing to do with secret hidden messages regarding children in these films. They are good, but they are not pieces of art. They're big-budget action films that are made by people being told exactly what to do by a studio, for better or worse. Kelly is much smaller than even Malcolm, who is reasonably tall but not heavy set. She's a child, and the adults tower over her. A person's mass can only go so far. The outcome that would have been realistic is that she unbalanced the raptor and sent it flying out of an already open window, not that it was flung out of it (and destroyed it in the process). The way they shoot the scene makes it appear she has hit it with more force than simply spinning around a pole. It also has very little to do with martial arts. An 8-year-old kid can be as good at martial arts as they like, but they are still incapable of the physical strength required to even move a full-grown man. I know this because I've actually trained with children and technique is only part of it. If the child cannot move your weight or your spinal centre (by moving the head), which they cannot do if they can't reach it, then rest assured the man is going nowhere. In real life, kids can't best adults physically most of the time, it's the province of fiction. The only thing in the favour of the scene is that a full-grown raptor likely weighs less, though not significantly so, than a grown man. Dinosaurs did not have 'hollow bones' like birds, this was an evolutionary adaptation that was fully realised later. They had similar bones, but no ground-dwelling animal has an evolutionary advantage from having an adaptation that is exclusively of benefit to *flying* animals.
@KRSsven
@KRSsven 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, actually. Very sure. You must have missed the part where I was talking about 8-year old children, and not adults kicking adults, mainly when the adult has no fucking clue the guy is coming. You also posted a video that has a knife attack in it, to support the idea that a fictional girl could kick an animal that weighs (at the very least) slightly less than a man through a completely barred window? Also, a woman swinging a dog around, for some reason. I'm sure there was a point to that too. Yeah, brilliant logic! A person's mass only takes you so far. In your valiant attempt at showing the internet keyboard warrior's typical mongoloid approach of posting random URLs, you showed no attempt to actually refute the point and instead...posted some URLs to videos that show men kicking one another. You seem to exist in the aforementioned Charlie's Angels universe, where very small people can kick down doors being held shut by people more than twice their weight. Or where if someone has been punched/kicked unexpectedly next to a window, the energy involved is somehow so high they are flung completely through the window, double-glazing and all! What would actually happen is that the raptor would barely move or at most be kicked against the window. Which would not break. Kelly or Malcolm would then die. But because this is a Hollywood movie, she has to get rid of the raptor with her mad gymnastics skillz. That's what Spielberg thought constituted a character arc...she mentioned that she was a gymnast, got dropped from the team and kicked a raptor. Clearly not a man of physics, logic, or grammar, either. You wrote three sentences and only two of them (the ones with six words or less) actually made sense. Anything else you'd like to say?

The Critiquing Criticism video I mentioned is going to take a long time to create. I am hoping to get to work on it sometime soon, maybe closer to Halloween, but if you're interested in how it will turn out I did the first episode on the Spielberg movie Hook. Thanks for the compliments man!

It’s nice to see someone else love this film. Like you, I loved the Lost World when I was a kid. But in the mid 2000’s I heard a bunch of people didn’t like it. Most notably when I watched the Nostalgia Critic’s review of the film. I began to think that the film wasn’t as good as I remembered. Eventually I watched the film again, and I couldn’t understand why people didn’t like it. Well, I heard the complaints and I know why they dislike the film, but I don’t think it’s enough to call the film bad. I still consider it the best Jurassic Park sequel to date.

I've also never really understood all the hate The Lost World got. I always adored it purely on the basis that it gave me exactly what I wanted: more high-quality dinosaurs. While B-movies are great in their own way, and there's no shortage of dinosaurs in cheesier films, I have always and will always want more just straight up *good* dinosaur action. So even if the story *had* been awful, I would still love TLW for that fact alone. That said, as you eloquently explained, there really isn't all that much to complain about with this film. Sure, you can nitpick it to hell if you're really determined to dislike it, but as a complete product, it simply isn't worthy of all the scorn it's received. My parents always hated it, I think, because of the obvious environmentalist message built into the plot (they've always been the "I can't stand those tree-huggers trying to get me to care about the environment" types), which just soured them to all of the great stuff the film has to offer. But other than that, the majority of disparaging comments I've heard just comes down to "Remember the raptor gymnastics scene? Lol. What a dumb movie." And that truly confuses me, because 1) while a completely contrived scene that probably was only added because the actress who played Kelly was a brilliant gymnast, there's nothing implausible about sending a lightweight like a raptor flying with all the velocity one can generate flipping around on a bar, and 2) IT'S FUCKING BADASS, REGARDLESS. So yeah, I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thinks this movie gets way more flack than it deserves.

I know my comment is two years late (forgive me - I'm a new subscriber, and have been watching your videos from oldest to newest) - but it just goes to show how much appreciation someone has left to give, even if they poo-poo'd something from the first shot. I admit, the very first time (or two or three) that I saw JP2, I wasn't real impressed either. And I think it mostly had to do with all the "technical" dialogue scenes that I didn't understand as a tween. Fast forward to my late twenties and (now) early 30's, all that technical dialogue just BLOWS MY MIND! It answers so many of my questions - how's, why's, who's - and I have a whole new appreciation for this installment! All in all, my perception of the JP franchise shifted as I aged. In the beginning, I just thought it was a cool movie about dinosaurs, and paid attention to no other scene BUT the ones that had dinosaurs in it. But as I grew older, the plot is what really drew me back to the entire series - and the dinosaurs were just a bonus! (Just to hint at how naive I was when I first watched JP2 - the cargo that's strapped down to the hood of Roland's vehicle, shown in 3:57 of this video - I always thought those were dinosaur droppings based on the fact that a lot of their fleet was weaving in and out between the larger dino's legs...smh) Keep rolling out great content!

I was a kid when I watched this and I wasn't ready for the levels of awesomeness and brutality. I actually also prefered it to the first because it was more wild and frennetic. I have so much nostalgia for this film and collected all sorts of merchandise from toys to the sticker album. Great times. The fact that the main characters are just walking around a jungle full of deadly dinosaurs is unsettling too. We all know the original Jurassic Park is a masterpiece, but this one keeps the essence, it is about as good. Really.

The Lost World is my favourite as well. It involves both dinosaurs, and human drama in a believable story. It involves more darkness and horror than the first movie. I love the t rexes ransacking the trailers. I love the raptors in the long grass. This whole film had a sense of dread and doom to it that none of the other movies have had. Plus, it was the first Jurassic Park movie I was introduced to, being born in 1990. I remember being excited to go to my cousins in another province because they had it on VHS and I watched it (and had nightmares) every single time. So it’s special for that too.

Just watched them all again, and TLW great! What amazes me about the trailer scene is that we get no outside shots of the rexes wrecking the trailers. It's all from inside the trailers, from the characters perspective, with only one brief shot of the rexes' heads. It makes it claustrophobic and much scarier then if it was all shown with CGI dinos! I think the cinematography and direction of this one is the best of all of them. Just look at the Compy scene with Dieter Stark. Those low angle shots over the water, rocks flying at the camera. It's beautiful!

I love the scene with the rexes emerging from the jungle left and right of the trailer. And it looks so much better than the Trex in Jurassic World.

I remember my parents bringing The Lost World JP home on vhs back when... I watched it twice in one night!! I've always LOVED IT. 20 something years later now and it is still hands down my favorite sequel to the original 1993 JP film. I never understood how people hated Lost World with such a passion but gave JP3 a pass as a better movie ?? What a joke. Lol. Ether way GREAT VIDEO!!!

So I subbed because Jurassic Park content. Which is odd, because I've always enjoyed the films, but wasn't the biggest fan? But your getting me to want to become one! I do love dinosaurs, and I honestly don't remember the first three so I am going to go re watch them. And your getting me to want to read the books,too! Thanks for the cool content, man!

When I was younger I loved the lost world. I tought it was better than the original. But now I love the first one alot more. But can't understand why people hate this. Its still a good movie. But it missed Dr Grant. He's the only thing great about the third one.

In terms of special effects I think TLW is one of the strongest films ever made, like top 5. It does so many things so believably, hiding cgi in darkness still seems to be the way to go.

Comment comes a few years later but its kind of worth saying. I found your channel randomly like 3 days ago and ive just been binge watching your videos. I remember hating this movie on release as a kid and never wanting to give it a second chance. Having hear you praised it in so many other videos, talk about the books, provide some backstory and context. I feel like I was a little too harsh on this movie and Im definitely going to give an effort to rewatch it open minded to see if I enjoy it more now (like your dad) so thanks for all these great videos.

I loved this video. Thanks for all the cool facts I didn’t know. I started to remember when you said there were old versions of the Lost World and the original back and white one. I started to realize. Wow that’s right I totally forgot about that. I use to not like this movie. But I watched it yesterday and I have to say. It’s a solid sequel. It’s actually pretty good. An underrated one in the franchise indeed. It’s really not that bad.

The lost world was the best, I loved it since I first saw it. It's incredible! Finally someone agrees. The original is classic but more optimistic and held back, lost world is the perfect mix of adventure, gore, horror and suspense plus the abandoned jp aspect is awesome. JP3 is only good for its 30 seconds of Trex and the abandoned ingen buildings. Jurassic World is also amazing but lost world is number 1 for me!

I remember when I first saw this on DVD as a young kid in the mid 2000s. (Yeah this was after the JP craze ended) I remember just feeling indifferent towards the film. When Fallen Kingdom was about to come out, I too marathoned the first four films. When I got to the lost world again, I found myself HEAVILY invested in it AND getting chills during the action and suspense scenes. I loved it in 2018, and I still love it now.

I saw this movie, the very first time I met my dad at the age of 8. So, it's special to me in the regard that it was the first thing we ever did. Being a huge dinosaur enthusiast myself, for the past 21 years or so its been. The raptor gymnastics was the only issue I have with tbe film. Even revisiting it myself, cause wal mart was selling each of the films with a $5 off fallen kingdom coupon. I still, love this film... In almost every regard... Dino gymnastics aside.

I love the The Lost World, always have. Saw it in theaters when it was first released and for a period of time it was my favorite movie ever. I was only 10 keep in mind lol. Over the years I started to realize that there was a negative connotation with the movie and it somewhat baffled me. As a film buff, I couldn’t really see many flaws and only saw that it was “different” than the original film. I appreciate Spielberg and Crihtons attempt and approach in making this sequel. It doesn’t try to outdo or mimic its predecessor(which what many do and fail at) it takes what happened before and moves the plot and characters forward in different directions.

I remember back in 1997 when I was 6 or 7 and my stepdad and I went to the video store to rent the VHS on its release day. We had to wait for a while because they weren't allowed to put it on the shelves before a certain hour. Getting home and watching it I remember being greatly affected by the intro scene with the little girl. It really set the tone for how dark and scary this movie was going to be. Then, scene after scene it just got worse. I think a few years passed then before I saw the movie again, but the clearest memories it left with me were the scenes with the young girl, Sarah being attacked and hiding in the tree, the trailers going over the cliff, the Burke guy getting the snake inside his shirt and the severed hand on the ship. Rewatching it later on made me realize I had only carried a handful of memorable scenes with me (I was probably too young though). Nowadays I also love the movie.

This is the "Prequel Trilogy Effect". Audiences expected Return of the Jedi but they got Revenge of the Sith. Love for these films isn't there at the beggining because it's the adult audiences who dislike it, while younger audiences don't have a big medium to express their opinion. Look at the prequels: - It's always the OT fans the ones who hate everything - They destroyed Jake Lloyd's life - They suck. These groups of people have nostalgia goggles constantly on, so in their mind if it's new, it's bad.

I saw both of the first two films in theater, and while jp1 awed 7 year old me, jp2 definitely wasn't what 11 year old me was expecting. I have to agree with you, I think most people expected something akin to jw and when they didn't get it they lashed out against it. I know it took me four or five years to truely enjoy jp2 and now it ranks high in my all time favorites.
