I feel like Mario Run would have a lot more replay value if one of the modes had an endless run where you need to collect as many coins as possible. Structured sort of like the final boss, it’s Subway Surfers/Temple Run but you move vertically opposed to horizontally. Swiping the screen up or down to move to layers.

I think Remix 10 was just as good of a solution, at least from my experience playing the game. It had a definitive beginning and end, but it was extremely addicting trying to do a perfect run each time, and I sometimes ended up playing it for an hour or more straight.

Mario Run is the only mobile game I actually play. Its great for quick, simple plays, and re-playable. I bought the full version and wish more companies experimented with the idea of a trial, or a one time purchase with no ads or microtransactions.

I didn't buy this when it originally came out, but one day I saw it on sale on the App Store for $5 and I thought "Yeah, I'll hit purchase now." Pretty glad I did, the game is fairly fun and the amount of content in the game was surprising (even if most of that content is just replaying the levels with different goals).

I personally think SMR is a pretty good time for being a mobile game. It’s actually decently repayable, with Toad Rally pitting you up against the shmoves of others and unlocking buildings in the shop for your kingdom, and Remix 10 sending you through a random assortment of 10 small levels in a row. It’s a pretty simple game, and compared to other mobile games it might not be as expansive, but a simple 2D Mario on your phone is still pretty good. And hey, 10 bucks for the whole thing as opposed to ads and micro transactions is pretty alright compared to many other games on the mobile market.

I play it daily for the platinum points. It's a fun little game. When I downloaded it happened to be on sale for $4.99, and I thought that was a good price. I told myself I would play the free levels and then decide. I hadn't realized $4.99 was a sale price. Of course once I played the free levels, the sale had ended. If/when it goes on sale again I'll be getting it. Yes there are only six worlds but played in bit sized bits just finishing all of world 1 took me a couple of weeks.

I still have Mario Run and Mario Kart tour in my phone. I played the others but got bored and uninstalled them. I think that Nintendo was experimenting with the pricing seeing if people would play for a game. I think 10 bucks is good enough for a game that is complete. I think is absurd how people whine for spending 10 dollars on a game but they don't care spending 100 times more in microtransactions. I doubt will see a Mario Run 2. I doubt Nintendo will release mobile games anymore. They did these to survive during the Wiiu/3DS to Switch transition and it worked. They haven't announced new ones and even some were discontinued.

I think what killed Mario Run was a matter of two elements: 1- Pricing, it's the most well known thing given the "standards" for mobile gaming at the time, you could have gotten something just as fulfiiling as Mario Run for either cheaper or just free. Hell, even if it was better than most auto-runners, it needed to be a 100/10 perfect addicting game in order to convince people that it was better to spend money than to play for free. 2- Nintendo pulled the dumbest decission and made the game Online-Only. Which maybe in 2023 doesn't sound too bad today despite DRM's being the biggest insult of the industry, but that was basically what truly killed off the hype for this game IMO. It was at least damn sure in 2016, that people wouldn't always be online, especially on a mobile phone where mobile games were mostly designed to be time-killers for when you're in a mall or just outside when you're probably not connected to the internet. So not only do you have a game where you have to pay more than usual on this platform in order to get the full experience, you also limit people from playing it unless they're either at home or spending their phone data.

It is not that people werent accustomed to online only games, instead, Mario Run was online only just because Nintendo was afraid of piracy. Every other free to play game on smartphones do require internet connection to show ads and microtransactions and people understand that, but Mario Run is mostly single player and any paid mobile game doesnt have online requirements like Mario Run

This game may not be super deep for an adult, but my daughter absolutely loves it. The 1-touch controls and short levels are perfect for a young ones first game. Plus, the fact that there no in-game purchses means I dont have to worry about ads and such messing things up.

About that point of pokemon go impacting mainline pokemon sales, that's a very big misunderstanding. People who played pokemon go when it was trendy, weren't the same people who bought pokemon SS or SV. People who play "FREE" to play games are simply people who aren't willing to play for a game. There's just no way such a person would have paid 300 for the switch and another 60 for the game.
