WCW/nWo Revenge was the sequel to WCW vs nWo World Tour on N64. Developed once again by AKI, the game added a lot of improvements over it's predecessor including updated character models, better graphics, new arenas, the edit mode (that was available in Virtual Pro Wrestling 64) and a ton of new wrestlers. nWo Hollywood, nWo Wolfpac, Raven's Flock, WCW and the Cruiserweight Division were all represented in the game, and players could take control of favourites such as Sting, Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Scott Hall, Lex Luger and Hollywood Hogan.
Revenge would turn out to be the best ever video game released under the WCW license, and this video looks at everything that made it special.

I was a PlayStation kid until I played Revenge at a friend's house. This is the game that got me to ask for a N64 for Christmas in 1998. I played it from the moment midnight struck and I was allowed to open my presents, all through the night and pretty much the entire Christmas day. I could not believe the intro with Sting! I was 14 at the time and it was probably the greatest intro I had ever seen on any game up until that point. I still remember the exact moment I discovered by accident that you could steal your opponent's finisher. My friend and I were _literally_ screaming and hollering like we'd just discovered the cure for cancer LOL. Great memories.

Been on a mad binge of these AKI games recently. As a kid, I owned World Tour and Warzone. And despite being primarily a fan of WWF, I barely touched Warzone. I’ve introduced my son to these games on my old original hardware and over the years I’ve purchased them all. Revenge is something special. I’m currently playing the English patched VPW64 and VPW2 on RetroArch. I was still sat in my work clothes on Friday night til about 11:30pm. I’m a sucker for nostalgia.

This is the wrestling game I have the most fond memories with. I've always been super grateful that you chose to use music from the game in your videos because in some way it always brings me back to those good times when I hear those tunes. Also, it has in some small way made the game's legacy live on that much more. I can't even imagine how many hours myself, my brothers and my friends spent playing this game over the years. On the odd occasion I still end up busting it out with a friend of mine to this day for a good old fashioned 40 man battle royal. It often sees us making an alliance temporarily with one another only for one of us to suddenly turn on the other and go for an elimination attempt. Chaos in and out of the game. Revenge is such a timeless classic. Modern video games just don't make me feel the same way as they used to when I was younger.

I couldnt agree more with you, here. This, ladies and gentlethems is THE king of wrestling games for me personally. Back when I first got to play it, I had no N64. I was at my cousins place who had no console at all, but our parents decided to let us loan out a N64 from a videostore. We got Revenge and since I was a bit WCW Mark during that time, my mind was absolutely blown when I saw that roster and my head filled with all these dream-matches I wanted to do. One moment I remember very particularly. After the first bunch of them with my cousin I wanted to do a cruiserweight-match, I hadnt read the manual (who did?) and I through my cousin outside of the ring and I thought to myself (I was probably Rey or Juvi) "Hm, in reality they'd do a springboard move or suicide dive now. No clue if they are possible in the game." So I ran at the ropes and pushed the right button and bam - springboard move. I couldnt believe it. One thing I also remember that I never experienced afterwards in any game was, that you never could be certain if you finished your opponent with that last finisher you did. So many incredible WTF-Moments were created where you couldnt believe that you didnt get the 3-count after your move and with the opponent being so beaten down. Also, sure Nash and Hall arent in the same group per Roster-Menu, but you could just give Nash the red Outsiders attire, choose them both for a tag match and they'd come out with a tag-entrance that looked real enough to the Outsiders. Incredible. God, I love that game. Once I got home from that trip to my cousin I sold my SNES to buy a N64, a second controller and Revenge. I never bought another N64 game. It was all I needed. (Also you could just loan out games from videostores back then, but in the end I would always go back to playing Revenge.)

I completely get what you mean about the power of nostalgia. WWF Attitude looking back, is really one of my most disliked WWF games from my childhood. However it holds such a strong place in my heart as me and my buddies used to do Lumberjack matches and simply spend the whole time fighting the Lumberjacks (or running away from them as one friend was appalling at the game!). Got to say I also get that same hit sometimes by jumping onto Pro Evolution Soccer 6, that game was and is still, streets ahead of most football games. Another excellent video man, hope you had a fantastic time at Mania!

This video best sums up why WCW/nWo Revenge is held in higher regard than games that are objectively better like Wrestlemania 2000. It was the best wrestling game up to that point, released at a time when WCW was on fire, and the roster had everyone you could ever want to see in a ring. The roster being divided into factions is something that I never see get brought up as a big deal, but I remember my friends and I marking out hard over being able to go all nWo wolfpac.
@LivingVicariouslyHD
@LivingVicariouslyHD 10 ай бұрын
Thank you for remaking this video and really doing a great job illustrating why WCW/nWo Revenge was such a soft spot for many of us who grew up in this era playing games with friends. I am an old school Nintendo guy, but the one console where my favorite game isn't a 1st party Nintendo game is N64 - Revenge is that game for me. When this game was new, it was something else. I remember being Juvi in the battle royale mode and how exciting it felt to not only to play as him, but to see the roster depth and alt attires everyone had as they came out. The game kept impressing over and over again. I only wish we got N64 style sound font themes for the wrestlers. That would be the icing on the cake, along with maybe like a hidden Saturday Night arena or unlocking manager selection mode after getting however many high scores. Little things like that would've added more reason to play the game solo so you could show your buddies the cool extra stuff. But, as you stated, the game is fun enough to go back to and play to this very day. It captures the height of WCW before the fall, and I fully agree - it is a time capsule of a simpler time.

me too. I stopped watching wrestling in 94 then when Revenge came out I saw the intro video in a games store and was intrigued why pretty much the entire wwf roster of the early nineties had jumped over to wcw, which back then was a cheap Temu version of WWF. After playing Revenge non stop for weeks I turned TNT on to watch some WCW. The episode... the finger poke of doom.

Absolutely loved World Tour and Revenge. These games pulled me in to watching WCW in the late 90s. Fond memories.

God, the games intro brought back so much nostalgia of me and my brother playing this game, even the funny memories of me being upset for losing to him then trying to hit him with my N64 controller lol

I wasn’t a WCW guy, WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy were my games of choice, but a kid across the street from me had this game and we played the hell out of it, even once the aforementioned WWF games were released. The memories of staying up past my bedtime as a 10 year old, playing WM 2000 with the sound off, my dark bedroom illuminated by the flickering CRT screen. It’s enough to make me cry tbh 😅

So many hours spent in my buddy Mike’s basement playing this game. We didn’t know how lucky we were. Fond memories of just wailing on each other with foreign objects and hitting the low blows for that little ‘ding’ sound effect.

First wrestling video game I ever played. It was outdated by the time I got to it, the alliance angle had ended, so it was cool to see the guys in the game that I knew from the alliance.

1998: what a time to be a wrestling fan! I remember a much younger me back in NZ playing WWF Warzone to death, than heading to a friends place who had an N64 and playing Battle Royals for hours. All while on tv Austin v McMahon played out, and WCW was still firing on all (or most) cylinders. Great times.

I love how you're moving OUT of the chronology and into topics. Thank you for your diligence. Could I make a small request and would you be interested in making a video on the 'ART of the Manager' in professional wrestling? I really feel that it is the sadly forgotten art that modern wrestling seriously needs to reconsider again. It was much MUCH more than a stoolie interferer in matches. For the record, Paul Heyman IS still managing but his role is severely diminished and left to backstage and promos mostly. The fact HE is so well respected and likes by both sides of the wrestling spectrum prove that managers STILL has more to offer the world today. Remember these gems? Scary/Sensational Sherri Slick Bobby Heenan Mr.Fuji. Even Harvey Whippleman and Sapphire count. Those are merely ones I remembered from my days growing up and were a major factor in wrestling.

I was a 2000's kid, so i unfortunately wasnt around when this game came out; but i have two cool ass older brothers who had me playing this since i was 4 and didnt even know how to use a controller and played it for years 😂 i still have so many fond memories, the intro, the soundtrack, the ref sprite in the gameplay, and LOVING Rey Mysterio's alt costumes, id always say "i wanna play as the spiderman costume" haha Thanks for this bios, im still riding the high of an amazing Mania 40 and hope you make a short vid at least on Cody's story, considering the influence Dusty had on both companies of the Monday Night War. I wish you the best and cant wait for the next RTW :)

What's funny is that I listened to the Starrcade theme from this game hours ago and did not expect this video explaining the deep dive into the game😅. I downloaded a N64 emulator nearly 2 years back and flooded with legendary N64 games and among those were WCW/nWo Revenge. As for someone who was not born during the Monday night War and only began playing this game just two years ago, I gave me glimpse into what WCW was in the past. This game, No Mercy, VPW2 And WM2000 are some of my favorite N64 wrestling games I've played and Revenge is undoubtedly The definite WCW video game of all time
