Now, I would've had fun with Mario Party too and I tried to act grateful, but I'm sure some disappointment must've shown on my face. When I opened the box and WM2000 came out, I was stunned. I loved WM2000 at the time. It was miles ahead of Attitude. Yeah, No Mercy stole its thunder after not too long, but I look back on it very fondly. I remember loving the road to Wrestlemania mode, it was sort of like an early Universe mode, which was fine by me.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head. I played the WCW World Tour, Revenge, and Wrestlemania 2000 games with friends, along with stuff like Mario Kart 64. By the time No Mercy came out, my friend group went our separate ways, and I ended up playing No Mercy on my own. Also, I was unlucky enough to get a first printing that had the save bug on it. IIRC there was also slow down in No Mercy, so I'm an outlier who actually doesn't think much of No Mercy at all. The previous three AKI wrestling games hold some of my favorite memories of playing video games with friends, though. After No Mercy came out and I was kind of whatever about it, I didn't end up playing a wrestling game until Smackdown vs Raw 2006.I just replayed Revenge and Wrestlemania 2000 for a few years. I was 15 at the time. My grandpa was dying at home and I wasn't ready for it. It was my first encounter with death in the family. So I drove to a friend's house and stayed there overnight. He had just got "Wrestlemania 2000" and we played it all night, even though I was a big WCW fan and didn't really like the WWF (yes, even at that time). So we didn't sleep at all and the next morning my dad called me and told me that my grandpa had passed away peacefully. I drove home and said goodbye to grandpa, before the ... Undertaker ... picked him up. Sad, but also crazy memories of my childhood.

@@deelove7518 Thank you for the feedback. It was certainly many things, but not heartless. I loved my grandfather. However, he was already very old and had been blind for over 10 years, relying on a wheelchair for just as long. I loved this old man, who at that time was not fighting for his life but wanted to be finally relieved of his long suffering. It was a blessing that he could die at home and not in the hospital, but as I already said: I simply was not ready to understand and bear that, so I fled to my friend. Death scared me a lot back then and, by the way, still does today. Now I know how to deal with it differently. Eventually, I managed to get my hands on a VPW2 cart, but despite it being superior, my friends all wanted to play Wrestlemania 2000. Part of it was the language barrier. I printed out a complete translation of every menu in the game, but it was tedious for my friends to navigate. It was also a lack of knowledge about Japanese wrestlers. Why play Minoru Suzuki when you could be The Rock? Even when I got my Gameshark to translate the cart, it just wasn't enough. Great video! Brought up a lot of fond memories.

Wrestlemania 2000 was not only my first wrestling game, but still my favorite. In terms of No Mercy, the smackdown mall and the create a wrestler were the highlights. The only issues I had with the game compared to WM2000 was the face textures were worse in most cases, the career mode was based off of story lines from the previous year and there was no calendar year. The shows were random. In WM2000 the career mode made you feel like your a wrestler paying your dues and earning title shots felt like a badge of honor. Along side WWF Attitude, this career mode was precursor to Shut your Mouth and Here comes the Pain career modes. The cutscenes were few and far apart, but back in 1999 there was nothing like it. At the time we knew it was only going to get better.

I think there are some good tunes in this game that would be good for the 'Reliving the War' soundtrack.

Some damn good memories of all night sleepovers and constantly playing this game. It was so groundbreaking at the time especially if you were coming up in your teens playing this game.

I got this on clearance at a Target as a kid for about 20 USD right around Christmas, and this was after No Mercy was out but I couldn't afford it. I spent so much time with this game making custom wrestlers and custom belts, and had huge headcanon stories of alliances and betrayals. I loved that the custom title history showed you the list of owners, too, so it really felt like the storylines in my head were alive. Excellent game and one of my favorite N64 titles to date. Plus it didn't have the No Mercy bug that sometimes wiped the entire memory slot on cart!

The greatest Christmas present I ever got, and ever will have. This game I put in so many hours and time, something all of us that played the game have done. And I will always cherish those memories till I can't no more 😢

My God, this game. It dropped the same day as my Uncle's wedding, and I was stuck there until about 9 PM that night. I purchased the game earlier that day but didn't have time to open it and play, so I went through the entire wedding with the knowledge that Wrestlemania 2000 was just sitting at home, waiting. I even called my friend from a payphone to ask him how it was! When I got home, I tore into it and played until about 5AM. It was everything I wanted it to be. Those were good times.

We can only dream about the Sequel to No Mercy that they didn't finish . It would have been the greatest game of all time . No Mercy is already the greatest wrestling game

Loved all AKI wrestling games, but this one got a special place in my heart. I remember being able to recreate the entire WCW Revenge roster in Wrestlemania 2000 and spending countless hours setting WWF vs WCW dream matches we never saw during the Invasion angle ❤

Even during the days of Mario Kart & Starfox 64, this was the big go-to game for my buddies & I during our community college days. The best part was seeing who could top who with some out-there and insane create-a-wrestlers. Standout CAW's were George Foreman (with briefcase for selling his Formeman Grill), James Hetfield, The Misfits, our English Professor, Hoss Cartwright from Bonanza, Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Weird Al...great times

I'll forever hold this game dear to my heart. Played the hell out of it during summer of 2000 with a friend basically all day every day.

Spot on reasoning why this is my most memorable wrestling game from childhood. Countless hours playing with my bro through royal rumbles using our created players!

I’ll always have a warm spot in my heart for this game. The night of December 31st 2010/Jan 1st 2011 my house got broken into and they stole all my gaming stuff except for my N64 and N64 games. I went into a depression for a good two months and I remember during that time I just worked, ate, played RTWM, and slept during that time. I did like 3 RTWMs. One with Austin, one with The Rock, and another with Edge.

Before this attitude and War Zone where my favorites but only because of the extensive creative character, when this game came out though my friends and I went crazy with the Creator character, the move choices were so extensive it had every taunt for you to make any person from any Federation I was able to make myself and all my friends I got bored and started making bands like Nirvana Rage Against the Machine I even made James Bond. This game is basic text your wise but the game runs smooth in America ( didn't know the BS you fellas over there we're dealing with). This game is all about the creative character which is top-notch

One of the best things about this game was that you could simulate really good CPU vs CPU matches. So using the Create a Wrestler mode where there were so many CAWs that people posted I was able to make a huge roster, then I would run weekly events of similated matches with feuds and titles etc. I then had a website/email list of players and each week they would have £100 fake money to bet on the winners with certain matches giving better odds etc and then cumulative player tables etc. Was a lot of fun, especially as I could let things develop and use the way matches went to build storyline and grudge matches.
