I used these tips when checking out the 24" troybilt storm snowblower my neighbor was selling because wasn't room in moving truck. It was 5 years old but never used just set in their garage other neighbor always plowed their driveway . Put in New grass and oil and it fired right up and ran great. They couldn't find the owners manual the power cord or the extra sheer pins. They had paid $899 for it so I gave them $400 for it I think that's a good deal not as good as others commented on. Watched your other videos on the other maintenance to perform on it so it's ready for the snow.

I bought a Simplicity snowblower at a yard sale. It is a 15hp 26" with electric start, heated handgrips and a headlight. it was in like-new condition. The guy was asking $175. I didn't talk him down. He also had a Toro lawnmower for $25 and gave me three gas cans to go with them. This was about 4 years ago and I still have it all.

JB I'm glad that I have my snowblower all ready to go. I changed the oil this fall but had an issue with the auger handle stuck down. Some oil took care of that. I took off the bottom plate and cleaned everything out and put it back on. Took off the pully cover and it looked good. I also adjusted the cables for the drive and auger. After watching your video I realized that I never looked at the sparkplug. I could check it out but it started after the second pull. It sat all summer with no gas in. I've learned a lot from your channel and I'm still learning. Thanks for your time and videos.

Great video one of the best I seen here. I gave away my old & reliable 24" Troy Built and bought a newer 28" Airens which now has a destroyed Briggs & Straton engine on it. I can't blame Airens for that. The last storm was a wet snow of 18" and it did it in. Not sure what I will buy next. Airens is a well made machine. I like Toro and Cub Cadets. Honda's are just to much money. Not a fan of Craftsman but the newers ones are ok.
@GarageGear Жыл бұрын
Hey Dave what destroyed the engine on the ariens?
@TecumsehRulesbcserk2 жыл бұрын
My recommendation is to find one that has a Tecumseh Snow King that is in good condition. They’re a lot more reliable and easier to work on than a lot of the new engines. One engine you should avoid is the newer Briggs and Stratton storm series. Those things have serious cylinder head problems. The MTD powermore is also a bad one because it is really hard to work on. That is the engine on this snowblower you are showing.

I bought a new Craftsman two stage last yr at LOWES for $800 (looks the same as this one). Yesterday, installing impeller rubbers, I realized how small they are. 2 1/2" wide before the 30° bend. SMALL. It did okay last winter. With the impeller rubber installed, I'm hoping it will handle the icy snow at the end of the driveway where the state plows 5 lanes of snow. I must admit, it is super easy to start. Never used it yet but nice to have an electric start where you just hook up an extension cord. I looked at blower while in HD last week. WOW! Do they think our economy is so great as to almost double the prices for the same blower?

Hey Lee! These prices are out of control! Smart to put the impeller kit on it! Total game changer for these machines! I highly doubt the prices will come down once the economy stabilizes. Thanks for watching!

Wish you'd mentioned applying anti-seize paste on the axle if buying new or even try pulling off a wheel if buying used. I bought mine new, never knew about that now the wheels won't come off. There are some real barbaric ways to try to removed if seized but I'd rather not go that way. Also, at 9:18, the yellow dipstick handle, couldn't find in manual what that's for - what the story with that? Love your videos btw.
@gardenjohn12 жыл бұрын
LessThanHandy It is oil dip stick, to check oil level.
@GarageGear2 жыл бұрын
Hey lessthanhandy! The anti seize trick is something I’ve never seen someone actually do to their snowblower. I’ve done it to many but never seen it on a used one before. I’ll be doing it on this one. The lower yellow dip stick is useless on this model. Those engines are put on a variety of applications. Generators, blowers, chippers etc. for these blowers they don’t get used but may get used on a generator for example. If you take care of these engines they run great! Thanks for being a cool fan bud!

Awesome Brutus! Sounds like you found a good snowblower with a need for only some minor repairs. To answer your question, snowblowers do not have air filters. The cold temps could freeze up any moisture caught in them starving the engine of air. You’re good to go. Thanks for watching! 👍
