Online Forums suggest people prefer the KP90 bass drum than the bigger KP128 bass drum. It has a more realistic feel

If you want the kit for cheaper you can buy a dtx 6k 2x and replace the rubber toms and snare with atv mesh pads. They trigger the same (if you change some trigger settings) and are cheaper as they don’t use birch shells

You're totally right! Yeah one of my students is putting together a kit that way. It works if you understand that kind of customisation and have the time. Most people just want 'straight-out-the-box' I find!

I feel like Yamaha has lagged behind when it comes to edrums. It not popular and not present. Most ppl will go for roland or efnotes/alesis

are the sounds straight out of the box or do you have to faff about setting up all the pads cross talk hot spotting etc thanks

Those sounds are straight out the box! I'm a simple guy - there are other settings and fancy things you can program... But what you hear are 'the default sounds', recorded out onto a Tascam! No post production of any kind!

How much is the playing exp different from a real drum ?

Hmmm it's a tough question to answer. It's always different because you can't entirely replicate analogue signals in digital (techno-bable, blah blah blah), but this is one of the most realistic I know of. Whether you get pads or mesh, it doesn't get loads better than this right now. With this model, the kick drum is the compromise. But it still feels good! And all pad cymbals are quite different, but I like these. Overall, it feels like an instrument in it's own right, rather than a stand in for a 'real' instrument!

@@drumswithpete Thanks for the reply. Would you recommend this for intermediate to advance level players for practice? My kid has been learning and playing drum for 2 years and we have been using beginner level e-drum kit at our house for practices. They are progressing well and started to learn more advanced technique like ghost notes which I think requiring more pro instruments to support their growth. I would like to upgrade the kit while there's constraints in the house that acoustic drum may not be the best option. So we are hoping to find an e-drum kits that could fit their need for advancement without compromising much on the sensing and touching.
