I totally agree, Jenny! Definitely shark's teeth! You were right near Venice beach, so not surprised you found shark teeth! There are sooo many there! My dad took my family there years ago and we found tons of them! It was very exciting, but also scary why there were that many prehistoric sharks teeth there?! Lol! ) : It kept us out of the water at that beach because of it! Lol! ( :

Yes! I’m not an expert but I’ve been shark tooth hunting and what you have to remember is there were many different kinds of sharks. You can even find the tooth plates from rays.

Not me - I was neck deep in water AND snorkeling when I did go to look for shark teeth the first time we went. It's a good question though as to why there are so many teeth in that area 🤔

Yes, Virginia, that is a sea robin! And the Manatee is nothing to sneeze at. So wonderful to see that. I did get to see one in Tampa Bay a few years ago. The two pieces of black are fragments of sharks teeth. Some ancient sharks ate clams and had grinding teeth, not just the fang type. The shark tooth at 22:55 is a sand shark tooth with the very end broken off.

This beach is just awesome. Critters, shells, teeth - and I got to experience a little of everything. Thanks for the sand shark tooth ID. Those I know - the other more worn down ones, not so much. But I did keep everything and it's a good thing. I would have been bummed if I had left those teeth at the beach!

Oh my heart; as a sea glass hunter (mostly in Maine) who has only found two pieces of sea glass so far in SWF, it made me sad for you to toss that piece of glass into the garbage (at 19:50 in the video). Tried to look closely at it and it seemed to have started getting rounder edges/didn’t appear to have sharp edges that would hurt feet. Over the many years of sea glass collecting, if it isn’t ready, I often just throw it back in so that, some day, it will come back frosted and beautiful and another collector will find it. What’s weird is that I have cut my foot on the sharp edge of a broken shell, though. That aside, love this video, your finds and the exciting experience of “swimming with a manatee”, however briefly! What fun. Thanks for beautiful and uplifting content! I so appreciate it.

I can't tell you how happy I am that you left a comment. I was going through my settings one day and I thought I accidentally blocked you! There was no way for me to find you again, but that ztag1p is now burned in my brain. Yay - I didn't block you! Ok, now on to the serious stuff - the beach stuff... I (now) always wear beach shoes and I don't know why but I envision some kid getting their feet cut on the glass so I always, always pick up the glass on the beach and put it in the recycling bucket. I have found about 3 pieces of actual sea glass and all of it was on Sanibel. Those pieces I kept ☺️ Oh the manatee made my day. I wonder how many other people it delighted as it swam down the coast...

15 years ago my family and I went on one of those swim with the manatees in the wild trip when we went to Florida…it was amazing. They were very particular about adhering to the law about only 2 finger petting at the time, which I had absolutely no problem with, but one of those beautiful creatures was not. No matter how many times I tried to put space between us they just kept coming closer. The experience is right up there with swimming with the manta rays in Hawaii. Both were some of my favorite bucket list things I’ve done.

It was so nice to see Stump Pass without all of the rotting aquatic carcasses strewn about. I went there last summer and the red tide killed seemingly everything in the water. And all the dead fish, crabs, etc. ended up washed ashore. The stench was unbearable. It was a sad, but somewhat interesting glimpse into the various species that inhabit the gulf, but we could only take it for a few minutes. No shelling possible. Glad the critters got a reprieve this season from that awful red tide.

Loved that worm tunnel and the coral. So different than your usual finds. I would love to get my hands on the piles of shells and fill a large plastic Costco container (like Cheetos). I have been making my jewelry since I was 10 (58 years now) and I am having visions of all the different jewelry I could make. Like the ones you put back because half was gone or all the little ones with holes already. I enjoy your expeditions. I don’t know how you know all the names. Manatee was huge. 💚💚💚

I can imagine it would be frustrating to watch if I'm putting back your jewelry supplies, but I'm just not as crafty or creative as other people so I'm typically looking for shells to collect. Sometimes someone will put in a "Special order" and I'll hunt for a specific shell or materials. I'm very curious and like to learn the names of the shells and I've been practicing for almost 3 years now ☺️

We don't get them over here and I truly think they get a bad rap. The jellyfish on the other hand have prevented me from snorkeling. I love your videos and I have to say I have learned a bit. When I was stationed on Guam I found a tiny yellow shell no bigger than a pea and it had a break in the ridge and that break was the shape of a heart. I had it for over 8 yrs and got it out to show some friends and one of them set a book on top of it and broke it. I cried after they all left. That was the only shell I was able to bring home with me.

I went to stump pass a few months ago and found SO many shark teeth! Pretty much everyone you’ve found are shark teeth. You can tell if they don’t break when you try to snap them, and also the divots in the top where they’d be in the gums!
@SWFBeachLife
@SWFBeachLife 2 жыл бұрын
I did look for the divots and tried to see the separation between the enamel area and the root area but they were so smooth they looked like teeth shaped rocks. The consensus seems to be they were all shark teeth - I'm glad I kept them all. I would have been terribly annoyed if I had left any at the beach!

Great beach trip, your shark teeth all look like the real thing to me, I have a jam jar full of them. When I was 10 at a whopping 59 pounds I was knocked out of a canoe and freaked when I only went down about two feet, I landed on a manatee. Then I was more freaked and scrabbled back into the canoe, didn't see the manatee after that. Your encounter seems much more enjoyable. Thanks Sharmon.

Hi Sharmon, I've had no new surgery yet, but I've been referred to a specialist surgeon, so that's forward progress, I guess. I'm getting tired of waiting, so I thought I'd see what you are up to tonight. Before I start the video, I want to tell you about something even weirder than your finding a lot of Atlantic shells on a Gulf of Mexico beach. I watched you finding a piece of a Junonia and then saw a video of someone finding an entire one and I started thinking of the beautiful big shell I found at Ft. Myers Beach when I was a kid of only nine years old. I was walking way ahead of my parents. Back then it was easy to walk for hours on the beach all alone. It was safe, too! Someone told me at a nearby shell shop I begged to visit that my find was a Junonia and they offered me five dollars for it. I was shell crazy then, so I declined the offer. Years later, when I was a teen, I needed money for God knows what and decided that my shell collection was less important to me as it was before. I contacted a lady shell collector who had been asking to buy some shells from my extensive and varied collection (we had written back and forth for years about shells). I sent her a few photos of the shells I was interested in selling. I sent her one of the shell I thought was a Junonia, the prize of my collection, but kept one photo for my shelling journal. I realized, as I was looking at those videos last night, that a Junonia is NOT what I had found! That raised another question, though, "What's that shell?" So I quickly opened Google and then Wikipedia and compared the photo of the mystery shell to similar shells (long, heavy-bodied, quite pointed white shell with bright orange spots and an elongated opening) and I am now totally convinced that, fifty-four years ago, I found a large Bishop's Miter, about five inches long, on the sand at Ft. Myers Beach! Now, those shells ONLY occur in the Indio-Pacific region between the Indian Ocean and New Zealand, so that leaves me wondering one more thing. How in the world did a Bishop's Miter shell get to Ft. Myers Beach? Did someone place it there for someone else to find, but I found it first? There's no way that shell came around the tip of South America, up to the Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico or into the Gulf via the Panama Canal, yet there it was, lying on the sand, as if it was just waiting for me! It makes sense to me now why the collector who bought it from me was so excited! She got a really rare find of a shell, not to mention a large one, for only twenty dollars! Of course, twenty bucks was a lot of money fifty-four years ago! Makes me wish I'd never sold it, now. If I'd only had a shell book then, my husband said, I'd have known better than to sell it. I told him I couldn't afford a good shell book when I was nineteen years old. So he bought me a book last night on Amazon, the "Compendium of Seashells." It was selling, in new condition, for early a hundred and ten dollars, but I got it used for fifteen dollars! It's a big book and I can hardly wait until it comes, next week. Amazon has a lot of shell books in used condition, for much less than new. I plan on enlarging my already very large book collection. The internet is fine, but I love my books! I'd love to hear anybody's ideas on how that mystery shell may have made it from the Pacific to the beach at Ft. Myers. Anyway, back to the video... You are having a really great day, girl! The sea is happy to see you today! Darling, I'll take a manatee over a stingray any day of the week! Oh, yeah, those black things are shark's teeth! What a great day and a fun and exciting video! Thanks for taking me along with you! Much love from The Lost Mermaid! Becca

What a story! I was afraid you were going to say it was a banded cone. Those babies are so rare you can barely find any information about them. And I'm going to have to go with Janet Knight - it was probably left there from a beach themed party or celebration. I've found info-pacific shells too, but I quickly learned that not all shells you find on the beach are from SWFL. Crazy right?! And I have a few used shell books myself. They're so expensive, but boy are they fascinating! What a sweet husband to hook you up! I wish there was just one book that had every Florida shell in it, but alas, I have 3 different FL specific books and a few others that I like to look at and dream I'll get to go beachcoming in Fiji one day.
