@@DeezSkatesany suggestions on where to get practice in if you can’t get to a rink-both inside and outside? I tried going to an empty parking lot with my skates and was told to leave after about ten minutes. I’d prefer indoors but not many places allow skating and some of the tennis courts in my area have signs saying “No skating”….

Does your town have an outdoor ampitheater for concerts? Ours is empty most of the time and is a great sized piece of very smooth concrete. I’m also always posting attention to road surfaces as I drive and noting the smooth ones so I can come back later and skate certain neighborhoods. My road is really rough, so I love going to smoother places. I’ve heard parking garages are great, but I don’t stay up late enough to catch them empty. Skate parks - the flat bits - are great if it’s not crowded.

This is a great topic. For me, smooth movements are more impressive than difficult movements; if someone can do the simple stuff smoothly with grace and flow, it's more impressive than someone doing a difficult movement, abruptly.

I totally agree. Smoothness shows attention to detail. It’s like walking into a home that’s perfectly clean and well kept.

After 17 years out of it, I decided to go back to the blades. Realized that I need more than never to do some physical activity, and, yes I don't like gym, lift and such. So on, while scratching my foots thinking about something to do, I remembered my inline rolling days. Damn, so much fun back in the day. Recently I got a new job, paying a lot better, and I decided to make the shot a few days ago. Got a SEBA SX2, ppl told they are very comfortable, as my knees are not the same anymore (I'm 37 now, rolled from 17 to 20). Not a new one, but just one time used, got it for almost half the price. They fit perfectly, and every time I look at'em they make me smile. Slowly and steady I'm getting used to it, can't wait to get in the streets and feel the freedom again. Saw a lot of videos, and thank Odin your video went to my suggestion list. They way you explain is so good that I'm sure you teach something as a job, hahaha. Even theory videos are pure joy to watch. Also, is a GREAT plus that you have no boring intro and no bs music, i really love the sound of the wheels rolling. Please, don't give up with this channel, you are not just doing the difference, you are the difference!

Yeah I watch a lot of skating videos and sometimes just slow them down if I see a particular move I'm trying to get the hang of, to try break it down, but your mantra of just practising over, and over, and over, is definitely key! For myself, I can transition from forward to backward okay in a kind of mohawk way if I'm not going at full speed, but when I'm rolling fast, transitions make me nervous! I'm getting the hang of jumped transitions, but still kinda nervy. I'll practise my sideways skating, makes a lot of sense. It's not something I'm used to, need to open up those hips! I noticed bending the knees is key, but I do tend to over balance. Again, I'll just have to drill this "over, and over, and over" ha. Cool video, thanks, and the Besa move looks awesome

Can you do a _Besa_ video (on it's own)?
@KJ7Tillymann Жыл бұрын
I really admire some smoothness to skating. It tells me the skater really is in control. I try my best to be smooth in every move I do for that reason. But I do disagree with the part about learning to go backwards. Maybe it was just you trying to provide an example for your message of “practice each step over and over individually” But you made it sound like there’s only that one way to go backwards. The first way I learned to transition into backwards was by drawing a half circle with my right leg around my left leg. The left foot would automatically pivot around as you draw that half circle with your right foot. But otherwise great video and I’ll watch the edges video next, sir. Thank you :)
@DeezSkates Жыл бұрын
Hi! Just to be clear (and this video is old so I’m working from memory here), I was just providing an example of how the transition from forward to backward can be done without a loss of energy. I’m familiar with the method you’re describing. I see a lot of people learning it to start. But, it’s not a smooth transfer of energy because you’re spending momentum to draw that circle. When you step the way I described, you will not spend momentum to transition and everything will look much smoother and controlled. There are so many ways to change from skating forward to backward though. A great many and each have their purpose. Lately I’ve been doing three turns more.

David, are you skating a rockered setup during that hockey drill or is it flat?And how you do that one foot spin after you complete that hockey drill? Looking very nice. I know that from ice skating only. Is the balance in the toe there?
@DeezSkates4 жыл бұрын
I am skating a rockered skate there. And the stain works mostly the same as on the ice. Just got to find the right pressure on your edges. 😁

I feel like the momentum part was a little off. If you do a 180 your not losing momentum as long as the skates don't grind on the side of the wheels as you jump (theoretically a full perfect 180 jump will lose no momentum). Either way the wheels will start turning in the opposite direction but the body is still moving in the same direction. I've also noticed a lot of people have their own kinda style (such as transitioning method for front to back). ((Maybe I'm wrong and if so try to explain in another way cause I might be missing something))
@DeezSkates4 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the jump 180. However, I was not referring to a jumping 180, but rather a standard forward to backward skating transition where all wheels are in contact with the skating surface.

@@DeezSkates Thanks for clarifying I must have misunderstood and that makes a lot more sense Great video! Very informative 👌

there's no need for that. put the playback speed to 0.25 and just watch his feet. the moves are obvious.
