This is exactly what the community needed! A very passionate skater that takes the time to actually teach and grow the community and you do it very well! I cant wait for all the other videos and I hope more and more people from the few other popular skating channels will join in. On a sidenote. Im practicing the magic slide a little differently. Im starting with a stable soul slide and from there I turn into a magic slide. This means my arms are on the opposite sides but I dont know which is better.

Johannes, Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy it! I think that is perfectly fine. The only thing I foresee is that once you finally have your entry to the MS down and have to get super low at higher speeds, the back arm may have a tendency to tip you off balance. If this is not a problem for you then no harm done! -Cheers!

Man, so, I wasn't sure... Your vids have been popping up in my feed. Watched a few, there's some good stuff! This one hit me though. I am 38, learning new moves, seems to take me a lil longer. And I have to dedicate to it. I have a good handful of other bladers that I subscribed to for tutorials. But, when there all like... 10min later and drilling it like 4 times, I nailed it down. Ugh!!! I love the honest "Do it a 1000 times." Cause that seems to be the dedication I have to have doing new moves, then add them to the the bag of tricks that I'd say I can do. Subscribed! Keep it rollin!

I appreciate your perspective here. In my personal opinion, it’s not possible to nail a move in a few tries. I’ve been skating my whole life and I’m in my mid 30s now. And I STILL have to repeat any new move to master it. Again, just my opinion, but if someone tells you they mastered a move in four tries, their standards aren’t high enough.. thanks for your kind words and for checking out my channel! I have more coming soon! Cheers!

Nicely documented progress! Some of those later ones look really smooth. I noticed that it looks like when the skill is still fairly new, each slightly different surface requires a period of adjustment. I've been frustrated by this technique for awhile and it's nice to get another perspective on how to learn it. I've been having somewhat better luck lately with parallel slides, but I'm inspired to take this up again because when mastered, this is really the fastest and most foolproof way to stop quickly. Even a master will bail on a parallel slide sometimes, but not the magic due to the stability of being on both inside edges.

Magic slide looks great. It’s my first technical slide. I want to learn backwards and other variations. I find rough services working good with my luminous wheels. I enjoy using this to slow down but not to stop yet. My back foot just stays straight so I liked how you explained how to drag the Back foot.

This move irritates me way more then the parallel slide ever could. At least with the parallel slide it's a commitment issue but, this slide just straight destroys me. I understand how it works and get what to do yet ever time I go for it I have the hardest stop that's super unstable. After rewatching this I really need to go grind out all my problems with this slide today or it's going to haunt me for the rest of my life lol.

Could you teach a different way of doing the magic, starting with the soul slide? I've been trying for a couple of days now and I can't get it right, I start to turn to the side and on rougher surfaces I can't even get the soul slide right :c Thank you for your tutorials!
@optimuslebron4 жыл бұрын
i feel like soul slide is a better half way step toward magic slide than power slide. secondly from you progression of improvement, upper body counter rotation seems to be a key focal point. your earlier wobbly attempts all had no counter rotations and in many cases over rotations. as soon as you counter rotated the shoulders, you stability improved markedly. interestingly some later attempts with less pronounced counter rotations appeared less stable even if they are supposedly more confident attempts.

Thanks David, nice breakdown, one of the best! I've a few questions. Have you tried other wheel setups with magic slide, like triskate? Are you sliding on full rocker? And why on 84A and not 88? Aren't these wheels too soft for sliding (even though it obviously worked for you:))?
@DeezSkates5 жыл бұрын
Sergey, I haven’t tried the three wheels set up yet. I wanted to start low and stable. I am rockered. IMO it’s easy to slide in a rockered setup. And as far as durometer.. I’m a quad skater and I’m used to being able to put down way more power in quads due to more flat surface contact, so it’s easy for me to break loose any inline skate. Even with these softer wheels I only use 60% of the power I need to slide in my quads.
@sergeykornienko98825 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the answer. I got curious and googled what sliding looks like on quads... I've never seen it before somehow. Looks a bit unnatural to me because you slide on the flat surface of the wheel. But that's prob how it should be done on quads. Cheers and keep posting - love your vids! :-)
@DeezSkates5 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah. Those people are using super slippery wheels. Very little power needed. I was thinking about hockey stops and Powerslide. Haha.
@onlycorner55654 жыл бұрын
that lock bad, like you gonna turn your back to the car you gonna hit try to start the sliding motion from behind the left leg (you use the right leg to stop) i learned it doing an powerslide half way with right leg(backwards powerslide) and pivoting on the right back wheel then turn my body and plant the left leg to stop the smoother you plant it more effective and fun it is
@amarissimus293 жыл бұрын
I love how you casually mention, at the end of the video, that you need hard wheels. Other than the need to commit, this is the most important thing about slides. Maybe I missed an earlier mention. If I did, sorry. Anyone learning: don't try and learn slides on 85a wheels! It's masochistic. Get the hardest wheels you can and get ready to laugh at how obvious it is.
@DeezSkates3 жыл бұрын
Well.. I did this entire video on 85a wheels... so I didn’t really think about it.

As far as I can see on the video the main problem you have is bodyweight/balance. You should focus on controlling your center of gravity not legs, since you have that work out. On few first attempts where you marked them as Good, that's where you started to sifht body balance back just before the slide. Drag it even further.
@DeezSkates5 жыл бұрын
Easier said than done while you’re learning a new move. I quickly figured that out, but being able to execute it takes time when you still have to think about every part of the body when executing such a scary move.
