Great review as usual gentlemen! What I love most about the Profumo version is the replacement of the original's sour melon note with a banana-flambé and musky accord. More mature and enveloping. So great to watch you both doing what you do well!

I like Perfumo because it smells kinda like ADG or Essenza but has this bite and incense, musky manly smell. ADG is like what Lanier said "pleasant", to me "sweet" and because it's more subtle and doesn't annoy some people who hate strong perfume/EDG/EDT/EDC smell. I used to find Essenza too sharp too strong, but when I finally wear it for a day it's not that bad... more citrusy, great for summer.

I like them both, but my favorite of the two by far is Profumo. I also prefer Essenza to the original. The places and times that I would once wear Acqua Di Gio, I would now wear Essenza and for more formal activities I would wear Profumo.

I enjoyed your review, I'm don't believe any perfume should be judged too strenuously after 2 years of age, 3 at the max. Chemicals in perfume never stop changing. I love your passion for fragrances, and I think comparing aged perfumes and exploring them is a very cool and interesting endeavour. Have a great day.

Years ago I used to have Acqua di Gio in rotation with Cool Water, Guerlain's Imperiale and Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte during the summer. I hardly or almost never use them at all now.

That's what I call a Review, You really described how the new flanker Profumo is!! It's beautiful, I like it better than the Original for sure, but I will never said that it's the best designer ever made like a wacko reviewer said not only once, also twice. The description that you made in this review Sebastian it's exactly what I think when I smelled the original, I felt that it missed something, that's why I never bought the original AdG, but the new one has more body and it's versatile but it's not the best ever made. interesting story, when i was in the Navy, we would pull into port after weeks out to sea, after the anchor detail, all the sailors would get ready to hit the port....that meant spraying on AQD and just GO ! civilian clothes and go....then they would get plastered in port on liberty call and come back smelling like AQD....up early getting up for morning muster on the flight deck.,,,,always reminds me of drunk, oily, non showered sailors....and so I never liked aquatics really....ever since then, this fragrance reminds me of people who dont shower and put on AQD.....so a major NO LIKE. lol ! however, PROFUMO is excellent...very different.....deeper. oh, my first command was the USS Boxer which was in 98 about the time this was super popular.

Original ADG is good but nowadays it is really ordinary and so 90's. I love profumo, it's fresh but still dark, interesting and manly.

Sebastian I’m finding special blend to be stronger than Profumo. I know you didn’t get much difference. I also find special blend a bit sweeter. Special blend is in my opinion the ultimate ADG. Great video.

I don't think ADG features the note of rose. According to Armani it contains rock rose, which along with cistus, is a name used interchangeably with labdanum. Of course Armani may change the published notes just a little to keep up with what sounds attractive to the current customer.

The Profumo version is a masterpiece and in my collection. The original Acqua di Gio just seems ordinary to me and that is likely because I was in my 20's in the 1990's and the original AdG was 'everywhere', so perhaps that's where I get the 'ordinary' impression. The Profumo version I think 'should' have been the formula all along from the beginning.

Acqua de Gio original is more of a summer/beach scent now at days but it works good for just casual hangouts, the dry down is lovely, it calms the citrusy vibe for a kind of sweetish aquatic fruity. Now for the profumo, it’s definitely better, it just keeps the Acqua de Gio DNA and trades most of the citrus for a manlier spice/incense for a perfect balance. If i would rate them i would say the original is a 7.5/10 and the profumo is a 9/10. Both are still kind of different so having them both is still a good option.

GREAT review , too bad you guys couldn't be more of a duo!! would have been great ! The AQD now has a 10.7 oz and they plan on going to a whopping 16.7 oz !!!! LOL. No joke. I have to say, when I served in the Navy all the gusy were crazy about this, when we would pull into port some of the guys wouldn't shower and just put on their clothes because we where about 4 weeks out to sea or even longer. So they just wanted out for Liberty Call ! They would spray on this and hit the town.....even when coming back blasted drunk they would smell like this, so I have a hard time with AQDG reminds me of drunk Sailors, Marines and not showering lol...just spritzing this on and go....LOL. Just recently I'm trying to like it but it reminds me of my days aboard the USS Boxer LHD-4 lol 4 years aboard that boat.

I think they are both different and for different reasons. I'm a day person and like beachy fresh scent. A darker maybe more romantic for a dinner/mature date. The Original is still good i smelled it a few times. Im gonna stop at the mall and give my review. But its all what you're looking for a fragance for different reasons. It's worth having both for different things.

"It's pleasant, like a cleanser is pleasant..." Classic Lanier! Yep, Acqua di Gio is truly iconic. Yet a fragrance I could never embrace. I, too, get a big blast of calone. Then some sweetish fruits and a hint of lavender, nutmeg and clean musk with an amber base. And this is after over spraying, for my skin just drinks this stuff up! Then "meh." It truly is pleasant though, but I always felt it was just ho-hum at best. Perhaps it is because I have not tried the vintage juices. Oddly, it may be a question of the flankers. Acqua di Gio Esssenza is a bit better. It smells a bit more robust with more of that "sea-wharfy-esque" calone and more pronounced florals, ambery woods. And I thought there was an ambergris or ambroxan note. And some spiciness as well. It is by far better. And then, as you mentioned, comes the Profumo. Truly a different beast, to my nose. Still has the same aquatic DNA, but that added spicy, incensey goodness, darker, less daytime/beachy and more nocturnal/urban. Classier. Pretty good! Now I wonder how the original Acqua smelled. Hmmm... Gentlemen! Great comparo. Mahalo!

Very nice tandem review! Given how popular ADG was, it's funny that I never tried it until only last year when I got hooked into perfume collection. I was never without at least a couple of perfumes before but now I've got 70+ bottles and one of them is ADG Profumo which I actually love (not sure for how much longer). Just curious, with you being a collector extraordinaire with a huge collection, what are your criteria for NOT buying a fragrance?
