I have No.5 and I love it, I sampled No.7 and it is a great oud scent worthy of a full bottle. I live in UAE and I can distinguish good oud from bad one, this is really a good one for what it is.

I have No 5. I love it. I do not find myself reaching for it often but it smells great and different from anything else that I have in my collection. I find it a little more masculine leaning but still extremely unisex and unique...at least to my nose. Love your content BTW. Happy New Year!

I love this house;he is such a refined perfumer. Nummer 5 is my all time favorite fragrance ever made!my ranking is also exact the same as you,you’re the only reviewer a look up to and watch your videos!My taste of fragrances is very close to yours…..that’s the reason. Boy, No. 5 sounds amazing! Tell me: is number 7 perfectly unisex? Is it more masculine? It sounds powerful - but, I trust your judgement when you say it is a beautiful scent...I'm sure it is. Thank you for reviewing these...You know - this video made me think - I'd like to see you do a favorite fragrances from around the world video! I know you are well-travelled and we've seen you review fragrances from EVERYWHERE it seems! I just think that would be a lot of fun and you could highlight 2 or 3 fragrances from each country and maybe have a few segments like Part 1&2 or maybe even 3 so you can really fit them all in...Just something to think about. xoxox

Great review and list! I’m a little disappointed No. 7 has cumin as a note in it. This makes for a few great sounding fragrances that cumin has ran me away from lately (Boundless and Tobacco Mandarin are a couple that immediately come to mind) . Does cumin bring anything besides that sweaty essence to a fragrance? Perhaps there are other facets to the spice that I haven’t yet smelled? If so I’ll test to try it. Anyhow, another great video Sebastian, thanks!

I think of cumin in fragrance like salt in cookies. Salt balances out the sweet like cumin balances out the pleasantness of floral/fruit/musk. Interesting I don’t identify cumin as a stand alone smell in Tobacco Mandarin but I think it helps to round it out. Maybe it is more pronounced to your nose than mine.

@@lisaesposito7317 that is a great explanation of the rationale behind why perfumers throw cumin in the mix. I think through the opening and mid of most fragrances I've tried that include cumin, cumin plays fairly well with the other notes and adds the balance that you speak of. It is between the early mid to dry down that, on my skin at least, cumin begins to be the loudest guest at the party and eventually the last guest to leave the party 🥳. I have not tried near enough fragrances that include cumin to write it off as a note completely yet but I can't help but be wary when I see it in a note breakdown or when reviewers like Sebastian warn us it pops through fairly strongly. I am hopeful I will have a different experience with cumin eventually!

If it is done right it is a civet like component to a fragrance. It fixes a scent beautifully but used improperly it smells like curry.

Rosendo Mateu has now 10 releases as such, 3 of which are ouds - not mentioned by Sebastian here is "Fresh Oud" which anybody who enjoys #4 and/or #7 should check-out. thank you, Sebastian for terrific presentation.

Sebastian, not to be repetitious but yet another enjoyable video. I have a sample set of Rosendo Mateu but only the first six. I have not smelled No. 7 but it sounds great and I will have to sample it. I liked all 6 original perfumes but own full bottles of No. 3 and No. 5.

I'm still iffy on the pronunciation of Mateu. 🤔 Is it Mat-ew? Ma-te-ooo? Ma-toe? Ma-two? Since it's a Spanish brand, I'm guessing it's somewhere in between the second and fourth?

Mateu is a catalan family name. It is pronounced ma - te ( te as in tent) - u ( as in oud). It means Matthew in Catalan.
