Women care more about looks IMO (primarily the face). The main reason is there is a larger risk to choose a man versus a man selecting a woman.....Physical appearance plays a large role in success because people generally treat attractive people with more respect.....Therefore, an attractive mate will be ideal to survive into the future..... I've lost count how many times they've called me ugly. I've lost count how many times they compliment attractive men on their looks rather than personality (ohhh, I like your hair, your smile, your eyes.....) If looks didn't matter so much, then women would compliment men more often on their personality rather than appearance.....I had a female friend say "well, this one guy was very nice but it didn't seem to click. He just wasn't attractive at all..." The first impression is appearance. It gets you in the door.... Everyone places a different emphasis though....it exists along a spectrum.

When there is more options, why not seek the best! Most women don't care as much about body relative to men. This is why you see such variation in body type. They care a lot more about facial features because this strongly influences status in life. An adult male who looks like a 12 year old boy will often be treated as such. This is human nature. Most women prefer a male to look mature and behave as such. There are always outliers. Life is a game of probability. Women have exponentially more options today than ever before....Most women naturally seek top tier men early on for sex and hope to secure a relationship with an attractive male. The problem is these men are far less likely to commit to marriage and far more likely to cheat. Women are forced to settle for less because they need a mate who yields security for the long term. I was pointing out that looks are extremely important. Personality is very strongly connected to appearance because our body language and facial expression is in sync with our thought processes and emotions. Most people try to separate personality/charm from looks but you can never do so. Everyone makes generalizations...It is clear that most sexual relationships are predetermined based on appearance. Everyone has a range of attraction. Some individuals have a wide range (bisexuals/pans) whereas others tend to have narrow ranges (heterosexuals). This range is cyclic and bounded (lower to upper bound). I don't think many people would settle for a a person who is very sick and deathly in appearance regardless of personality. Let's suppose two men walk into a room full of heterosexual women. Male A has a very feminine appearance and has facial deformities. Male B is perfectly symmetrical and has an ideal ratio of masculine to feminine characteristics. Assume Male A and B have the exact same personality and career. Clearly, male B will invoke a much stronger response because women are physiologically changed when they see an attractive male. The main criteria is that you look sufficiently attractive to move further. YOU clearly DONT need to be a male model to succeed. You just need to look decent enough. Looks determines the total # of possibilities/options (a subset of the population). The better you look objectively, the larger the set. Personality determines the rate of change of the set with respect to time. If you add + attributes, interest level climbs. This causes the set to increase in size toward the abs max. This rate of change depends on the initial condition (physical attraction) and how much emphasis is placed on appearance. Humans are instinctual and are not necessary aware of the influence due to appearance. If you.add - attributes, then interst level falls. This causes the set to shrink and slowly converge toward zero. When physical attraction is stronger, its harder to break away when negative traits are added (if there is no bias toward attractive people).

Your absolutely right about the subjectiveness of beauty, by you saying that it honestly opens my eyes and makes me realise that someone who is deemed 'ugly', can be seen as beautiful by another. Most of those females were barely 7's, and they were likely trying to look presentable. There's nothing wrong with having preferences but make sure you're a top tier chick yourself. If you want that handsome 6ft 2 athletic built guy with a good personality chances are you probably aren't going to get him because many girls feel just as obligated to have the best as you do, and if he's basing attraction off of look 9/10 times there's a more attractive girl he could pursue over you.
