I've made one and I love it! I am developing arthritis and need ergonomic hooks when I crochet. The hard handles on my looming hooks are a bit hard so I thought I would try making one of these hook covers and it worked great. It softened the handle and made it warm to the touch, which is great for winter. Thanks, Denise, for this fantastic pattern. I'm going to make more.

I have found that when I am tying two strings together if I use a surgeon's knot it makes the knot much securer. To do a surgeon's knot when you cross the two threads and pass one through, just pass the same one through a second time and pull tight. Thank you for your many tutorials!! You explain everything so well and show how it is done in a way that is easy to follow and understand!!

I got around to following this and made a cover for my hook. I love it as my hooks are quite thin and I hold it like a pen. Only problem with that is it kinda rubs in one area. SO, I made my little cover and no more rubbing on the fingers. Though it is taking some getting use to as its now thicker. Thank you 😊

Yep, this one has a longer life span... depending on the yarn. I'm using acrylic. I needed this cus I knit a lot almost everyday and the rubber was hurting the palm of my hand.
@ArDeeMee
@ArDeeMee 3 жыл бұрын
If you need a bigger handle, maybe you could even combine both? A thicker rubber band handle in a yarn sleeve? Would that even work, or would the yarn fibers dry out the rubber, breaking them sooner than usual? Would acrylic yarn be better? I don‘t have any with rubber bands since I only use my ergonomic hook, so this is an honest question for those with experience with rubber bands.

Excellent, Denise! They are really pretty. Thank you so much for that tutorial. Keep up the good work! Have you ever used the flexee looms? A person can choose whatever Number of pegs they want on their loom. They snap apart like pop-it beads. I find them a lot of fun and they come in 3 different gauges.They would be very good for making these in different sizes! I'd love to see what you think of those looms. I'm going to be carrying one medium gauge around in my knitting bag just in case I want to make something that I don't have a loom for. That way I have a choice. Is the only problem with them is that they don't have the anchor peg. So I have figured out a way to make my own!

These are perfect... I love looming for hours, and my fingers get sore after a while lol. Do you think I could modify the pattern to work for a crochet hook too? Metal crochet hooks are SO unforgiving!
@LoomaHat
@LoomaHat 2 жыл бұрын
Gretchen - I don't see why you couldn't. You will just have to test the peg count, use a small gauge loom or crochet one because the crochet hooks in general are much thinner.

I think I‘ll make a few of these for the off-season on my Etsy shop… there‘s quite a large gap between easter and christmas over here, and these little gifts seem like perfect shelf-fillers for me. But the first ones are going on my own crochet hooks. Btw, has anyone else some discoloration on the handle of their ergonomic loom pick from KBlooms? The front half is completely pale. =/
@LoomaHat
@LoomaHat 3 жыл бұрын
Hey RD - for the crochet hook you might want to reduce the number of stitches, maybe to 5 or 6 instead of nine. Let me know how it works out because I wasn't too comfy about the idea of the cover for other hooks. And yep my KB hook is a bit discolored, still love it best of all the loom knitting hooks available in the market. This cover has made it even better to use. I also agree that these make great gifts and should sell well in your Etsy shop. I get that down slop on my pattern sales during the summer as well. Have you considered some of the new projects like the mug rug and the book marker. I think just switching the yarn to cotton changes the game completely. Here is a video about using the patterns for commercial sales. Thanks for watching. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6SWoGqqZrCfn8U
@ArDeeMee
@ArDeeMee 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I‘ll give full credit with name and a link to the tutorial. ^^ I have used other patterns before and this seems fine so far. The ergonomic hook is just SO good, I wouldn‘t trade it for anything. Luckily, the discoloration is the only issue, the material itself hasn‘t deteriorated. I can still recommend it. And with a cotton handle cover it can only improve.👍

Denise I have seen something similar but it was made with rubber bands. Which one of these methods would be best if your making a gift for someone with arthritis?
@LoomaHat

I actually think the bands would be better. This one lasts longer and I personally like it better but the rubber bands are a better grip and I think someone with arthritis would feel better with it. I have a video for the rubber band grip kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmiZY3SfbZ2jbtU
