How to setup your Voicelive 3 so that you can loop 3 instruments. I'm adding in an Akai sample pad that I've started using live for a bit of fun - amzn.to/2YG24jB - but you could add a bass guitar, a keyboard, really any other instrument that might be fun to include in your loops.
In previous video's I have added my phone into loops - using iMaschine 2. Here's the link:
www.native-ins...
My standard set up is Vocals, Guitar, and then the Akai sample pad using the Aux input.
I also use the TC Helicon Switch 6 - amzn.to/2VKC8Gg, but realistically I think I would be better off the Switch 3, as I simply don't use all 6 extra switches, and find the 6 just a bit big to easily organise onto a pedalboard! :)

Hi David, thanks for the tutorial - all works fine except one thing: I have plugged my DAW to AUX and there is a noticeable delay between a hit of the bad and sound of the speaker (about 0,5 secs). When I plug the headphones directly to DAW - no delay. So apparently its created by the VL3 Itself. Any ideas?

Ok, problem solved - you need to change in SYSTEM Aux IN type from Track to Live :) And there will be no latency :)

So following your voice up to this point, I added my Williams 88 key portable piano the Legado model I use the iGO because it has a 3.5 mm in it’s designed for microphone input so you can use a quarter inch jack in so out of the back of the legato using the mono into the Igo and then into the auxiliary everything is working fine and I will Bluetooth my iPadso now I just have to see if I can map the buttons to use the auxiliary port with the hit button in looper mode. Let you up to this point. Everything is working fine.

Another excellent and informative video sir! On a side note, what gauge strings are you using? I use the lightest acoustic strings I can find and still have difficulty achieving the bends I'd like. Anyway, keep up the great work!
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelwilliams9019thanks. I am using 12 gauge strings. The biggest thing that will change how easy it is to bend is how your neck relief and action is set on the guitar. If you're really struggling to get full bends on 11's or less, might be worth taking to a good guitar tech for a setup. Every guitar does vary, but that will usually help quite a bit! :)

Hey! thanks for the info. Just a small correction... when you hold the swap button ... it goes into the utilities! So I think you can chance your inputs while looping 😊
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 4 жыл бұрын
hey Nick - you are correct and I should have mentioned it. I personally wouldn't say it's really possible with using the 'hold swap' feature and wouldn't recommend people to use it, because it comes and goes as being 'available'. Eg if you record track 'a' then go to hold swap so that you can record track 'b' with a different input selection - it simply starts recording track 'c' and doesn't take you into utilities. You actually have to record something on track a, b, and c, before you can hold the swap button to access the utilities. So in most cases it's not really that functional - although yes, you are correct it's possible!
@nreyntje
@nreyntje 4 жыл бұрын
@@davidshanhun I just wanted you and other people to know, because it frustrated me that the utilities buttons goes away and I may want to change the metronome sound are something. It took me a while to find out about the 'hidden' feature, altough as you said, its not really functional in real live performance... more for when you are just looping on your own for practice. As a sidenote question... i just started using the triple play, and then from my laptop into the voicelive's aux. But I prefer to go in the guitar, so I can add effects etc. I am really happy about this setup btw, I can get really sweet sounds... but you would't know if the aux can be routed to the vocal or guitar input, so I don't need to physically swap cables (or buy a two input cable - which is my plan b) :)

I have toyed with the same thing with th VL3 and it wasn't for me. I do the (very basic) beat box for rhythm but im seriously thinking of just having drum beats in the presets. Not all the presets but maybe one set worth for the "dance/upbeat" times.. Ever done that? Also had the switch 3 and 6 and totally agree the 6 was too big of a footprint for me and sold it!

At least on the VL3, you can adjust the Aux vol. Having separate Vox and Instrument looping & processing are things i don’t have on my Roland Rc-202....it’s not on the 505, either. Even with some of the challenges you’ve had with the VL3, I am seriously considering replacing my Loop Station.

Hey Mitchel, i must admit it's been super handy having that AUX gain setting - I've actually used it a bunch of times as well when I've done a gig where I've had to (for one reason or another) run my whole setup out from the VL3 with no mixer. Can put my stomp pedal into the aux and set the levels, and then have gtr/vox/aux all coming out the main xlr and all mixed to good levels! Just watched a couple of your vids - are you looping harp only or other instruments as well?

This is awesome ... thanks so much for sharing .... after seeing this I had a question about maybe using an A/B/X splitter to split my guitar signal run a into guitar input as normal and b into my sub n up octaver and into aux to record bass and percussion dry into the looper. Do u think this would work? My objective is to have a simple way to add bass/percussion to any of my presets and I don’t want the guitar effects of the preset to screw up the bass and percussion tracks.
@davidshanhun
@davidshanhun 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert. Yep, that would totally work - you'd have no fx on the AUX channel, and can set the level to be what you want through the VL3. You might want to run the VL3 with ALL inputs going into the loop all the time, and perhaps have a mic with an on/off switch if you find you are getting too much mic ambient noise going into each loop, there's just quite a bit of foot dancing/tapping otherwise haha! but plenty of options to do that and make it work I reckon! :)

David Shanhun i know im a bit late to the party but if one of you could clarify this it would mean the world- so you’re saying that using an A/B/X splitter , you’re able to loop a guitar, bass, vocals, and drum pad all at once? i’ve been digging everywhere to see if you can get all 4 looping together !!! please let me know!!

Anyway, I looking for a simple solution for muting my vocal mic while I am building my loop so that I get no bleed of the crowd or other sounds, like clicking switches, into my loop. This is for live performance, so I need to be able to unmute the mic again to start singing without missing a step. I checked out inline switches and they seem ridiculously overpriced, I hoping there is a simple way to do this on the vl3.

hey Danny, super simple to do this on the VL3. I explain it at 4 minutes in on this video that you've commented on - rather than mute the mic, you simply change the input on the loop to just guitar, rather than 'all'. that way your mic is still live if you want to chat to the audience or sing, but none of that is going into your loop.
