Freddy was supposed to be the only one having fun. That's why the reboot flopped. Freddy without his sense of humor? What's the point?
@Johnny.5.Is.Alive.4 жыл бұрын
The original film Freddy was scary (the most) there was no humour in it and he hung back more in shadows and behind things. That was a true horror film. Humour notably appeared in ‘A Nightmare on Elm St 3 - Dream Warriors’ with lines like ‘ It’s your big break in TV, cut to prime time... Bitch’ & ‘Sorry kid, I don’t believe in fairytales!’ & ‘Whatta rush!’ After this film Freddy slowly descended further into being a parody of himself loosing the scare factor. I find something that never reveals itself completely far more frightening then something on show that presents dark humour.

MR FREEZE-98 do you not consider slashers to be horror movies? The original was 100% meant to be a horror film. The movies that went for straight up comedy (Dream Child and Freddy’s Dead) are EASILY the worst 2 movies in the franchise. The reboot failed because it didn’t really do anything new for the series and focused way too heavily on his backstory.
@SpaghettiYOLOKingTTV4 жыл бұрын
So we're just going to ignore the puns in the remake? People just salty it wasn't Englund. He made plenty of puns in the remake.
@jamesrouse34664 жыл бұрын
@@Johnny.5.Is.Alive. Yeah. A LOT of people aren't aware that Wes was adamantly against Freddy being humorous, as he felt it detracted from his more frightening nature and the moments that arise from that. This is largely evident in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and New Nightmare, which are the only two that Wes was directly involved with. In that sense, the reboot was actually truer to Wes Craven's original vision than most of the other efforts. In the end though, Jackie Earle Hailey isn't Robert Englund and nostalgia killed the reboot's chances more than anything else. Full disclosure, I absolutely adore Robert Englund and his performances as Freddy, but I do think Jackie Earle Hailey brought a very visceral, grounded and more intense version of Freddy which I feel was unfairly panned for no good reasons other than for the sake of it not being as nostalgic.

Freddie has always reminded me of Albert Fish the real life monster who murdered children in the 1930’s and enjoyed causing pain to himself. Even down to the fact that he wore a janitors uniform and hat so children were focused on that and unable to identify his face or when they saw him in normal clothes. Either way his crimes were utterly horrific and very similar backstory of childhood abuse

Albert fish is the single most disturbing account I have ever read about. Once you read his letters that were sent to his victims parents you get a chilling realization of the reality those poor innocent children experienced. We watch all these movies because they're fantasy and consider them extreme and unrealistic but Albert was the real deal. And it's very very hard to feel ok when you think of what his victims went through. I'd highly suggest reading about it, simply because those children deserve for us to understand what they suffered through and we should all just hug our children and be thankful they are safe in their beds. And I'm sorry if anyone reads this whose child was lost. Didn't mean to trigger anyone. I short, Mr Fish was a fucking dick.

In #3 they didn't quite have the same consistency with the makeup, shadows, and roaring scary voice, but still great. That’s cool that you used a Freddy’s Dead scene for your thumbnail. I was there that day, was there on many days doing injury and gore makeups on actors. An extremely broadening and educational experience, when I was about 23, and working around various special effects studios.

When I watched “nightmare on elm street” it was so sad when I saw him before he got screwed up he looked so cute and happy and then he was all scared and childish and fast as all hell and it was a pretty sad part of the movie and story to me

In the ending "Friday the 13th: Jason goes to hell" after the souls drag Jason to hell his mask is left behind when suddenly you can see Freddy's claw hand grasp it from within the dirt to drag it down. That was the true cliffhanger back then!

I wish Hollywood would humanize Freddy & show us his back story on why he became evil. Like show him being a model citizen but an action of someone blackmailing him & then accusing him of being a child molester & then burning him before going to trial made him get revenge on the town that burned him alive. I don’t want him to be born evil!!

But how far does "damage carrying over" go? I mean, people in the real world don't see a giant cockroach where their daughter used to be...

I love the Freddy movie's, the classic ones will always be the best in my book I just seriously hope they don't decide to reboot this franchise yet again. Just let the movies stay in the past where they are and let them remain classics as they should be, not exploited by Hollywood a billion times just make a billion dollars.

Ahh so Freddy’s reasoning for continued tormenting of people is because he sign a deal with the devil where hill stay immortal in the dream realm for as long as Freddy’s remembered so he has to constantly keep torturing people and that’s how he stays immortal
