Something really overlooked is the physicality that Zombie gave his version of Micheal. Myers in the original is something almost supernatural, where as in Zombie’s films he is savage murderer. OG Micheal appears out of nowhere while this one literally walks into frame casually sometimes before killing someone. I really like the we have both versions.

I understand the reasoning but I disagree with the execution. A lot of serial killers irl don’t have these horrible traumatic backstories. They have completely normal upbringings and overall happy childhoods. They unfortunately just lack empathy and when they find ways to please themselves either through sex, murder, or other nefarious acts it’s the first real thing they’ve ever felt and they become addicted to it. That’s why this doesn’t really work as well with Michael Myers. He’s not meant to be someone with any ulterior motives. He is pure evil. He’s not in it for anything and applying a motive to him or a psychological background is not only disingenuous but also promotes a stereotype about mental health and truama. Granted this is 2007 but I still think if Rob Zombie made this movie today it would be identical to what it was back then. Michael Myers should have no reason or motive behind killing. That’s what so many Halloween movies get wrong. Like Alfred said to Batman in The Dark Knight when referring to the Joker: “Some men can’t be bought, bullied, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn”

I've always had a soft spot for this movie. Rob Zombie's interpretation of Michael Myers is so imposing and primal. Even as a child, the scene where he beats the bully to death with the tree branch is kinda unsettling in how raw and violent it is. The kill in the bathroom is the same way, it's so feral and vicious. This Michael Myers is never "evil just because of supernatural forces," he's evil because he's mentally disturbed, had a bad upbringing, and even after getting committed, he never had anyone that would help him. Just Dr. Loomis trying to make his fortune and a name for himself. This Michael Myers is ALMOST someone to be pitied rather than cartoonishly demonic. He's a man, who was once a boy, neither of which ever had a fair chance at a decent life.

Honestly this movie is just a stereotype of generic real life serial killers. What makes the original so phenomenal is that Michael was a normal kid then randomly killed his sister. But in this movie he has a shitty childhood and gets bullied. You can see Michael start killing motherfucka a mile away. This movie would’ve been good if it was a normal family then Michael just snapped and killed his sister and things.

@@s.nifrum4580That and no shit to the kid actor, but he doesn't sell it for me. Nothing about that kid to me evoked fear in me and it was hard to put myself in the story. There is something to be said about humanizing a horror villain too much. I don't remember the original one, but I really dislike this one. The acting isn't great, the dialogue is cheesy (the way the teens talk gives a heavy "hello, fellow kids" vibes), there's a sex scene every 4 seconds and Laurie is the typical "not like the other girls" "look at me I'm quirky" character. This movie is really nothing special and after a while I got bored. Hell, I liked the Friday the 13th remake better than this one and I hated most of those characters. What made the movie for me was that it owned up to being a slasher. It wasn't supposed to be taken seriously and you could tell the actors had a lot of fun. It's so disappointing because I like and even love some bad movies (see, House of Wax or The Stuff) but this movie has no charm to it. It's just....bad.
