Yo! this is a great video, congrats! i just have a quick question: what's the name of the hub that you have connected to each laptop? Thanks 🙏

I'm using Ableton and MainStage 3 on the same laptop (IAC Driver). I can see the MIDI note sends showing up in the MainStage display, but no program change is happening when I play from Ableton. The "tempo" change is working however. What am I missing?

I have two keyboard rig set up on mainstage when I click the next scene on ableton to the next mainstage program all the sounds change why is that happening?
@richardhecht Жыл бұрын
Nice, does that work, if MainStage and Ableton runs on the same computer?
@fromstudiotostage Жыл бұрын
Yes, but use a virtual MIDI driver (IAC on Mac, Loopbe1 on Windows)

@@fromstudiotostage Do you think it works well for a live performance? Mainstage and Ableton on the same mac?
@shannonhughes9515 Жыл бұрын
Are you limited to one Ableton track pointing to Mainstage or can multiple tracks be setup accepting different MIDI from (say two keyboards)

What if one of your interfaces doesn’t have midi or Ethernet? (Apollo 8) can I just plug an Ethernet cable into the built in USB hub on my 2 macs using a usb adaptor and achieve the same thing?
@fromstudiotostage2 жыл бұрын
Just use ethernet between your computers
@l34music5 жыл бұрын
how about controlling mainstage from Ableton on the same machine
@fromstudiotostage5 жыл бұрын
It’s the exact same process, you would just use the IAC driver in that case
@HopefulPop4 жыл бұрын
i just get nervous about that cause mainstage is such a cpu hog sometimes!!

If the tracks are on a laptop with Windows, not macOS, can this be done?
@daniel-kullmann3 жыл бұрын
You can use rtpMidi for Windows... that works exactly the same... look up Churchfront on KZbin

I was able to synchronize the tempo in both programs, but I can not make it work by creating a midi channel and controlling by changing the program value, nothing happens when the midi track starts. What can it be?
@fromstudiotostage5 жыл бұрын
Not sure without seeing your set, but you’ll want to check your outputs and Concert settings in MainStage
@kevinsardon69025 жыл бұрын
Thanks friend! Mainstage had unconfigured the values of the program change of each patch. Now everything works perfect. You are great, thanks for answering and helping! greetings from Argentina.

Select Patch-> Attributes -> Make sure "Program change" is on -> Change the number to match the patch number √
@David973604 жыл бұрын
I tried this and it doesn't work for me. While Mainstage's tempo does sync with Ableton's tempo, Mainstage doesn't sync with Ableton's one count. In fact, no beats perfectly line up, even when I adjust sync delay. If I restart the click, they match tempo but lose sync. I'm connecting the computers via ethernet. Any ideas?
@Mickeysternum2454 жыл бұрын
Yeah, would be cool to get a tutorial on syncing the clock if that's at all possible
@Mickeysternum2454 жыл бұрын
probably a dum question but did you press play on mainstage? i realised that's what i was missing. now they're perfectly in sync

You can also do it without an ethernet cable. All you gotta do is make sure the computers are on the same network, and set everything else up the same.
@fromstudiotostage5 жыл бұрын
That’s correct! WiFi isn’t a great idea in a live performance environment, but completely possible!
@jacobjohnson53393 жыл бұрын
But can this be done on the same Mac???
@Medisonmusic3 жыл бұрын
Yes it can, you just need to enable the IAC driver in Audio MIDI Settings :) just tried it myself with no problems
@grandprimet.v61283 ай бұрын
It doesn't work with two keyboards
@David973605 жыл бұрын
Does this mean Mainstage's clock is perfectly in time with Ableton's clock? Meaning... I could play Ableton's & Mainstage's click together and they would perfectly be in sync?
@fromstudiotostage5 жыл бұрын
They would be close if not perfect. It depends a bit on your setup and connection

Even after I started the free trial, there isn't a Mainstage Cues download link in the studio to stage tutorial page. There are links in the other tutorials like Propresenter and Ableton, but none in the Mainstage tutorial. Is there anything I can do about that?

Hi Matthew! You’ll find those cues as apart of the Program Change lesson in the Making the Connection course: fromstudiotostage.com/courses/5-midi-program-changes/

The 6:40 deal where you map sounds exactly where you need them only works if you are playing a single song vs a live set.
@fromstudiotostage4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, thankfully this works whether you have a single song or a full live set! This makes it super useful to pre-program your entire set
@AfricaInlandMissionUSA4 жыл бұрын
fromstudiotostage only if you set markers for every song and depending on the size of your set it can work but it doesn’t allow flexibility for last minute song change set. So it works if the set is more rigid.
@fromstudiotostage4 жыл бұрын
You don’t need locators to change sounds per song. If you format your songs with a “markers” track you get a Visual indicator of every song section. I have the flexibility to jump around in my song with one button and can jump anywhere in the set at any time. This gives me the flexibility with song order and song structure. And all the pre-programming I did with keys sounds, and video, and any other MIDI control follows right along!
@ryannichols99664 жыл бұрын
fromstudiotostage so is there a video about creating a markers track?
