Was born in Pudding lane, Maidstone in the 1950's. Wasn't much traffic back then and there were electric tram busses. Moved to Postley Road when I was 10. I remember fishing for sticklebacks as a kid in Loose, there was a track that went all the way to Loose, didn't need to use the roads at all, it's now all housing estates. Went to South Borough School when it had junior and senior pupils, the senior boys and girls were split with the junior school in between. I used to love roller skating at the YMCA off Cripple Street. Going to Mote park, riding the mini steam engine, playing on the swings and feeding the ducks. the Medway embankment only had a foot path to the bridge near the Palace, access to the railway bridge you had to use the roads and there were factories Fremlins brewery my dad worked when it was still a brewery, and the town swimming pool was right next to the river. I have fond memories of Maidstone, the town centre was beautiful, but hate to visit because the centre has changed so much it's unrecognisable, too many cars and diesel buses and so many new housing estates, it goes on forever. What's with all the sheep?

Thank you very much for posting your memories of the area, it is a very interesting read. There is still a footpath between Postley Road and Kirkdale at Loose - it follows the boundary between town and open fields. You ask about the sheep: it was a trail of over 50 decorated statues all around Maidstone town centre, within Mote Park, along by the river, and within Whatman Park. They were there to raise money for the Heart of Kent Hospice. The statues are sponsored by different businesses while in place, then at the end of their time as a trail the statues are auctioned. I read somewhere the auction raised over £250,000 for the Heart of Kent Hospice.

Hi there, am moving on to Holmesdale loose ME15 , am disappointed with the place when I see this video, too far from town centre, and no amenities ..and I don't drive.can you described more about the Place??

Living at Holmesdale Loose ME15 you should be about 15 minutes walk to the centre of Coxheath village. In Coxheath there are shops and all the other amenities. From where you are living it would also only be 10 or 20 minutes on a bus all the way to Maidstone town centre depending on the time of day. I would not worry about being in Loose myself.
