As someone who was working with one of the stores they looted which i wont name, while we were stuck on 3rd floor of our building, the fear we experienced sadly traumatized some of our co workers. We keep asking ourselves how could the neighborhood that surrounds our stores that we treated so fairly and outmost care do something like this to us? I am sorry but yesterday we witnessed a failure of humanity.

It is very sad to see what has happened to our country. The shops are so innocent. They are also paying tax. The right approach to take is to stop work. On the other hand, the government of the day know very well that it was an ongoing problem of increased unemployment, inflation which was not addressed. If it was addressed we should not have faced these problem. I pray for peace and restoration for my country, PNG.

These are people from the near by villages. Very bad. Such a shame for Papua New Guineans, how could we do this to the businesses that provide job opportunities to our Fathers/Mothers/Brothers/Sisters... 😔 I am ashamed of how we carried ourselves during this time in our own land. We do not possess the characters of a normal Human being. We are primitives, we were not there when God was issuing out common sense.

Addressing a challenging issue can be quite difficult. Such behavior is undoubtedly unacceptable. However, it's crucial to bear in mind that as a business owner, it's not only about managing the business but also contributing to the development of society. Building up society involves investing in education and providing employment opportunities. Additionally, individuals in the community should strive to minimize hedonistic tendencies. This process is undoubtedly challenging and will require a significant amount of time.

I'm very very sad for all business owners in Pom and elsewhere through out the nation. As Papua New Guinean all I can say is, whoever's behind all this rioting and looting should advice the public not to touch all business houses coz they are also paying tax individuals same as us and most of all providing services . Instead should focus on their point of attack directly to whoever's responsible for Taxation thing. This is a simple misconception of Point Of Attack. Concern PNG Citizen.

Tomorrow where will you buy food? This shops too pay huge amount of taxes and are struggling. They are also providing employment. Oh Papua New Guinea. When will we have some common sense. No wonder they keep on calling us primitives.

so let me understand this: Government employees checks are short 100 bucks (those with JOBS) and we now have looting rioters (stretchy guess; WITHOUT jobs or "welfare" tasks they get paid for) and we know have Compton all over again. Or south St. Louis, south Chicago, Detroit, Southeast Houston. There's a THEME here of some kind. And now it's worldwide.

ZP I think some may miss the subtext here but that sadly is what strikes me as well. The situation in PNG is not helped by an education system that is abysmal and creating a dependency on handouts rather than self reliance. I think the Compton reference is also due to the same issue: dependency. Once you move away from work as a source of revenue to handouts people feel entitled and that is the problem here.

The Lord helps those that help themselves. Proverbs 6:10-12 - A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 12:11 - He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. Proverbs 12:24 - Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. Proverbs 13:4 - The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. Colossians 3:23 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Matthew 5:3-4 - God blesses those who realize their need for him; and who mourn will be comforted. 1 Timothy 5:8 - If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. James 2:26 - For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

All the shops that were looted are around densely populated areas of high unemployment who pay zero income tax (settlements & urban villages). Stop & Stop central Waigani survived most likely because of the removal of nearby Garden Hills settlement... This should indicate to the Govt the relevance of the vagrancy laws!
