Well.. in smb3 thwomps are light blue and a grumpy face. But in smm1 the thwomp's face is the same in real game.

Huh, I need to re-test that, I thought it was based on what side of the block Mario was standing after it fully emerged from the block that determined what direction it went. Or in other words, say if Mario hit the block on the left half, and then immediately moved to the right side of the block before the 1-Up finished its "emerge vertically from the block" animation, then the 1-Up would travel left. Edit: Welp, sure enough I was wrong, went back and tested it myself and it's indeed based on which side of the block gets hit, not where Mario is standing when it emerges.

Extra difference: In SMB3 the fire breathing Piranha Plants have a taller sprite. In SMM2 it has a shorter sprite

I've also noticed that the Angry Sun's movement is more V-shaped in SMB3, whereas in SMM2, it has a smoother flow. It's probably a difference in screen resolution. It's just my observation.

7:27 I've played levels that require you to know this. A key (or red coin) is placed one block above one of these white panels, with spikes directly above, so that you'll die if you try to get the item with a regular jump (as Mario cannot do a one block high normal jump.) You can only safely collect the item by crouching on the panel and doing this "Easter Egg Jump" to avoid hitting Mario's head on the spikes.

Probably people don't know that smb3 from maker is based in the remake of the Super Nintendo, and not exactly from the original of NES.

@@itsarandomboy4094 SMB 3 and '1' had a remake on the Super Nintendo, Maker use some of the SMR 3 Remake version for the game. Although in retrospect Maker is actually a mix of the two SMB 3 graphics, original and remake.

One more thing to note: In the original SMB3, in the finish area the black area covers the whole screen. But in SMM2, the black area only covers the right side, and much smaller. Also true for SMM.

toned down? it's barely any different. there are just some refinements made to make it more consistent to control. don't tell me you _like_ the jank controls of the first super mario bros.

@@jclkaytwo The original mario 3 plays noticeably faster than the mario maker version. The two most noticeable things are that mario’s jump is floatier and the speed boost you get from filling up the p-meter is barely even noticeable.

In my Mario 3 hack, I made dry bones observe ledges, and also added a flight recharge whenever you bop an enemy while flying. Super Flyin Again is the hack.

You can also defeat a Dy Bones with the racoon tail in SMM2. In the original game, they were immune against it.

I have another one: The "poof" sound in SMB3 would play if you lost the Frog Suit, but in SMM2, something else plays instead of either that or the default "taking damage" sound (the "poof" sound still plays when the frog suit is collected)

Many image editors will try to smooth sharp edges when enlarged. They're not really meant for screenshots. Of course, if you were playing the game on a CRT as we did when the game was originally released, it would look much blurrier than this.

I thought this was unfair because in SMM2 In SMB3 we can get other things but in the original version we can't so why didn't they also put it in SMB1 it would be better because we could create a level that has to get objects there it goes be able to have in all themes

You missed a lot: •Bullet bills and boos are significantly slower. •Bob-ombs can break blocks. •The way bullseye bills behave has been changed completely. •You can no longer carry large Koopa shells •Large Koopa shells can now destroy more blocks. •Big Goombas will split when jumping on them. •Blooper nannies won’t try to throw their babies at you. Their babies are always trailing behind them. •Lakitu clouds are significantly bigger than in the original, and you can actually use them. •Dry bones can be killed with a tail swipe. •Munchers won’t turn into coins when a P-switch is triggered, or turn into a hard block when you tail swipe them, •Spike balls can be deflected with a super leaf, and are able to kill certain things in their path. •You can jump on enemies underwater without getting hurt. •You can’t jump on Bowser’s head. •You can’t jump on the Koopalings when they’re in their shell. •Doors now look like doors. •Rocky wrench wrenches are now red in the middle, as opposed to blue. •Rocky wrenches are now tan and white, as opposed to tan and cream like in the original. •Dry bone shading is now gray instead of light blue. •Note blocks are more responsive. •Boos no longer act normally in the night ground theme. •Chain chomps are less agile, and are much easier to avoid.

Another slight difference, Chain Chomp behavior: in the OG SMB3, the moment they hop back to the center of their leash, they'll immediately lash back out at you. They take a bit more time to do so after returning to neutral in the SMM series.

Thanks for making this video. I must admit when I first got a Wii U super Mario maker set. I was very disappointed on the treatment of my beloved smb3 got. A lot of the features were given to classic smb1 which took away its classic appeal. And made smb3 less unique. Not to mention in smm2 that it got short changed on music. Some levels recycle music while the other themes got new music.

Awsome video, super entreteinment. More things: in smm2 tanookie mario can reflect proyectiles with his tail, in smb3 cant. In smm2 tanookie can kill dry bones and another enemies y smb3 cant. In smm 2 tanookie can inflict damage to bowser and bosses , in smb3 cant. Parakoopas behavior its diferent in both games. In smb3 the starman is shorter than smm2 but in smb3 can be chained in some levels with coin blocks. K hope this little details will be useful

Stuff like thwomps actually interacting with other sprites makes smm2 so much more interesting. Limiting the options to perfectly simulate a nes game would be wasted potential. What is a shame is stuff like not being able to get behind the white semi solids and not having all the smb3 power ups and such

The direction of the mushroom depends on the position where mario is standing when the mushroom gets out of the box, it has nothing to do with where you hit the block, also, I think it only works this way in some levels.

The spinies and buzzy beetles have different sprites, There’s 2 fire shooting piranha plants, in SMB3 theres A red one with a long stem and shoots 1 fireball and a green one with a short stem and shoots 2 fireballs, in mario maker 2 the sprite of the fire shooting piranha plant is heavily edited, and is red and has a short stem, the fireballs also go through in the original while in mario maker they don’t. The color palette is brighter in super mario maker 2. The angry sun in the original moves in like a V shape, in mario maker 2 since it’s widescreen it moves in more of a stretched U shape.

Well, you really can hold shells. You just gotta go a few steps away from then, then hold the run button (depending on the controller or console) and come closer to them and BOOM! You can hold a shell! Just make sure they don't come out while you hold them, though!
