Helpful hints for a longer burn? we are going through a lot of wood

We installed one of these a few weeks ago and have burned quite a few fires already and found if we get it going good (about 15 minutes or so when the catalytic converter gets to 500+F)), we close everything up and throw a log on when the fire burns down to a small flame or good embers. We're getting about 2 hours on each piece of wood we put in. We have Maple to burn and the pieces are pretty uniform around 4" x16" pieces, obviously the bigger the wood the longer it will burn. I also started closing the bottom air vent all the way when the house reaches around 72F so it doesn't get too hot and we can usually maintain around 75-78F.

I guess we're supposed to know what the catalyst and baffle is?

Our new Rockport simply doesnt work right since new! Our catalytic converter bezel is falling out and the second we close the top bypass AND with the bottom air control lever open, our fires always got out. There's no direct phone number to contact this company, all through emails and a pathetic 500 character limit to try to explain your issues and when I emailed them it took 3-4 days for a response. The wood we have is anywhere from 13-18% so it's plenty dry so thats not an issue. This thing is rated for up to a 2000 or 2500sqft home and ours is a 2 story 1100sqft house and the only real heat you can feel is about 4-5ft right in front of the glass, the only way to get this thing going is run it like an old school wood stove which is very inefficient!

How long are you waiting before engaging the catalyst, assuming it stays in place? Also, have you run any crap wood in it....that absolutely will kill the catalyst.
