Nice bit Level 42’s Heathrow in there which was of course inspired by Lopsy Lu

@@jwcbronski Thank you for replying. I'm actually building a bass that uses the same build structure and sound philosophy as the Alembic. I have a rough prototype that I have been working on for years, and it sounds very close to yours. But that's not good enough for me :) I have to keep developing it. I have a prototype pickup concept that no one has ever done in the works.
@jwcbronski2 жыл бұрын
@@randellcurry1622 Wow I'd really like to hear (and see) that bass. I think for the Alembic-sound the pickups, pickup-position & electronics are the most important factors.
@randellcurry16222 жыл бұрын
@@jwcbronski Thank you. The bass structure i used was an ibanez BTB 4 string neck through, the same basic structural recipe as the Alembic Series bass. I gutted out the same pickup positions fairly accurately, but it was a rough hack job to be honest. Not a pretty sight at all lol. I made my own pickups from scratch using the same wire and number of windings around home depot ceramic block magnets, all into a specific shape and width. The magnetic aperature width of the pickups are exactly 7/8 inch wide, but it is not a normal winding configuration of other traditional pickups. Their output is EXTREME, very very loud, dynamic response is crazy. They are so loud and clean that its almost at line level, but get this... no preamp.
@randellcurry16222 жыл бұрын
@@jwcbronski And it has that alembic series bass "twang" sound that is so pleasing to the ear. I also hacked up a custom brass nut, bridge, and tailpiece, all with a brass sustain block too. Its very ugly, but the Alembic sound is there. The whole thing had to be done very carefully, with parts in specific positions, to get the correct "resonant" timbral response. Its all based from string wave impedance isolation philosophy...

Nice M.King style tone; could you do something Rock with bottom end and sustain? I'm only asking cos I'm getting a little older and can't be bothered to stretch: does the short scale still put out..? ;-)
@jwcbronski Жыл бұрын
This is an incredbly versatile instrument. I think you would have no problems getting enough bottom end. Theres is no active bass boost but you could use your amps eq.

If you don't mind me asking what string gauges are you using there?

Ernie Ball Extra Slinky 95-70-60-40
@mjmason753 жыл бұрын
@@jwcbronski Yeah, they sounded thin, so I figured they were light strings. You still had nice tone overall though, but obviously lighter gauge strings just sound thinner. Great job playing man!
