A brief note about Dagor Dagorath: As some of you may know, there is great debate about whether Dagor Dagorath is canon to the LOTR universe. I will clarify my position here: 1. Dagor Dagorath as a concept, meaning a final battle at the end of the world, is canon. This is not debated. 2. The specific details listed in The Second Prophecy of Mandos, are technically NOT canon, because Christopher Tolkien, son of JRR, chose to remove the prophecy from the final version of the Silmarillion, believing his father would have wanted it removed. 3. Many people, including myself, do not agree with this decision, and believe the Second Prophecy of Mandos should be canon. 4. Although I have nothing but respect for Christopher Tolkien (RIP), as far as this channel is concerned, the Second Prophecy is canon to this universe.

I really believe that this concept in the Lotr universe should have been explored more by Tolkien as it’s such and interesting concept of a battle to end all battles. I can imagine such splendour and vivid images of the last battle and the effects it would have and how Erus plan for the new world will come to fruition

Why did Melkor thought/believed the Flame Imperishable would be located somewhere in the Timeless Void ?

@Chuck Spadina Well, he certainly writes in an old fashioned way that can be occasionally dense, but I don’t think that makes him a bad writer. I’ve read parts of the Silmarillion, yes, but not the entire thing. Tolkien can write some very beautiful, almost poetic, prose on occasion though too. The Tom Bombadil chapters toward the beginning of Fellowship come to mind. Have you ever read Phantastes by George MacDonald?

Is it fair to say that Melkor always had a desire to create discord, or was he curious and THEN wanted to create discord because he was impatient? A lot of people have compared Melkor to Lucifer, but in my opinion (and I could be wrong), Melkor never experienced a state of grace in which to fall from. He was always evil. Someone please clue me in on this.
@CivilizationEx
@CivilizationEx 3 жыл бұрын
In the very beginning he wasn't evil, he was just curious and ambitious. He wanted to be the best at everything and do things no one else had done. This led him to search the void, which led to prolonged solitude. Here was where he changed for the worse. Spending so much time alone he became selfish and resentful of his limitations. Then when he returned he took part in the song and started his rebellion. He still wasn't pure evil at this point, just very selfish. After the song, when he was scolded, that's when he first experienced real anger and started to become evil.

A feud between one Maiar and Morgoth alone causing the most damage? Maybe, but at the same time we can’t forget all of the weapons humans created in just the Seventh Age alone. I mean we’re talking fighter jets, missiles, grenades, predator drones, computers, computer systems, computer viruses for that matter… Oh! And atom bombs too. We can’t forget about those.

On top of all of that, we also have more down-to-earth war machines such as tanks, turret vehicles, and aircraft carriers. We’ve also made extremely efficient handheld projectile weapons. The more, the merrier, right? Yeah, I don’t want to think about it.
@XaikuTMH

Now that I AM thinking about it anyway, Melkor/Morgoth has some serious firepower himself, if we were to stretch our head canon to its absolute limits and make him full-on Lucifer. Along with everything else the legends say he’ll come with, he also has these fine folks (taken from just the Ars Goetia and Dictionnaire Infernal alone); Abbadon Abraxas Adramelech Agares Aim Alastor Alloces Amdusias Amon Amy Andras Andrealphus Andromalius Asmodeus Astaroth Azazel Baalberith Bael Balam Barbatos Bathin Behemoth Beleth Belial Belphegor Beelzebub (Of course) Berith Bifrons Botis Buer Buné Caacrinolas Cain (Yes, the one who killed Abel) Cerberus (the guardian of Hades) Cimeies Crocell Dantalion Decarabia Deimos (who’s listed here, strangely) Eligos Eurynome Flagas Flavros Focalor Foras Forneus Furcas Furfur Gäap Ganga Glasya-Labolas Garuda Gremory Gusion Häagenti Halphas Ipos Lamia Lechies Leonard Leraje Malphas Mammon Marax Marbas Marchosias Melchom Moloch (those who’ve played certain Mortal Kombat games may recognize this name) Murmur Naberius Nickar Nybbas Orias Orobas Osé Paimon Picollus Pruflas Phenex Purson Rahovart Räum Ribesal Ronové Sabnock Sallos Samigina Scox Seere Shax Sitri Stolas Tap Torngarsuk Ukobach Valac Valefor Vapula Vassago Vepar Viné Vual Xaphan Yan-gant-y-tan Zagan Zepar Just look at them, and those are just the names! Imagine what the demons themselves are capable of. Of course, I did omit two of the names from the Dictionnaire Infernal out respect for the people of Hindu faith, but still; look at how many that leaves as a possibility. Wow.

I have a theory: Tolkien explained in a letter in 1960, we are in Seventh Age of Arda. If Dagor Dagorath actually realised, then the reshape of world lead to the creation of Earth, the home of Humans. Then, when time passed, Humans prosper with population and technology until today. If we colonise Eä, we could actualy making our way in Valinor in a distant future by using space ships.
