This scene has so much in it. The absolute despair in Wormtongue's voice when he realises his boys dropped the ball, the absolute certainty of Gandalf's walk knowing that the lads would take care of the heavy work, the cloak drop moment. Total masterpiece.

The whole Peter Jackson adaptation was probably the best book adaptation to a movie I’ve ever seen. There was so much left out cuz of tolkiens sheer ability to write an entire world on to paper but there’s no way these movies could have realistically been done any better. Yea the bass noise whenever Gandalf uses his staff/powers is brilliant. You can almost believe there's an invisible magical force unseen to our eyes that's going on when he does it. I love the fact booting Saruman out of Theoden also drains/tires Gandalf out as the battle of minds takes place, you can see he's genuinely drained by the encounter, which is brilliant again.

Christopher Lee was such an amazing actor. Not only he was the only one who have read the entire original book trilogy before filming, he also personally knew Tolkien, and he was good friends with him! Christopher Lee was the only one from the entire cast who really knew what the film is about. And the way he played Saruman, that's just masterpiece. Sir Ian McKellen is also incredibly talented actor, and a perfect choice for the role of Gandalf.

Spot on! Also, have you heard of the story of when Peter Jackson was directing Christopher Lee on what sound he should make when being stabbed in the back. Lee, having fought in World War 2 and being apart of the British Intelligence, gave Peter Jackson a tutorial on what someone really sounds like being stabbed in the back. Jackson didn't push the topic further and directed as was instructed by Lee. I think there's a video on youtube of their interaction.

@toryquinton2677 So then their color title isn't to do with their authority within their group, or which Valar they served, but their character alignment? Like being Lawful Good? Gandalf wasn't promoted to Sauromans role after his fall from grace then, but he does seem to be more powerful after his fight with the Balrog, and now goes by The White. If that marks him as having pure aspirations, why send five guys with four different.. aspirations, rather than all sharing the same goal? Gandalf was the only one to do his job in the end, no? Is that a reflection of his alignment or the Valar he serves? Did none of them receive any oversight from their 'bosses'?

For everyone who doesn't know about lore in this scene, Gandaft was once called "The Grey wizard" which come from his robe color and that form is his nerf form because all wizards in Lotr are once the gods who reincarnate to the human form to help human even Saruman too, Now we see that Gandalf become white which he gain this power by dieing fighting the giant monster name "Barok" then he sent to heaven and reincarnate again with his full power that why White robe is more powerful than grey one

This is my favourite scene by far from the entire trilogy. It reminds me of my awakening from major depression in 1991 and never fails to move me to tears. Bernard Hill was superb in all his unforgettable scenes as King Theoden, and surely all who marvelled at his great acting and his uniquely human touch now mourn his passing. Aragorn: “For he was a gentle heart and a great king and kept his oaths; and he rose out of the shadows to a last fair morning.”

I love Hama, his kids narrowly escape the Westfold and reunite with their mother at Helm's Deep, his son fights the Uruk Hai, he admits Gandalf into Medusheld with his staff and stays Gamling's hand in this scene, and all of that for him to get his face eaten off by a Warg

The small detail of the bruise on Sarumans forehead after Gandalf strikes Theoden King with his staff, but no bruise on Theoden, makes this scene perfect to me.
