4:40 it's because the HV power supply in the TV is a little bit weak... when the whole screen is white, the power supply voltage gets dragged down and everything is a bit dimmer. As more and more of the white gets replaced by black and green, the load on the power supply goes down, so the voltage goes up, and the greens get greener.
@dwangoAC6 жыл бұрын
That's the most compelling reasoning I've seen yet, although I'm not sure why it also affected some capture devices. My PVM as expected also seems less susceptible.

I know how TASes work, but how does your R.O.B. TASbot work? Do you just have the ROB holding an Arduino that acts as the tas? How do the LEDs work?
@evknucklehead6 жыл бұрын
The R.O.B. is a normal R.O.B., it holds the board that handles interpreting the movie files into button presses. Last I heard the board itself is a Raspberry Pi of some sort. Earlier versions did use an Arduino, but the Raspberry Pi is more flexible for what TASbot needs to do. As the board sends signals to the console TASbot is connected to, it also lights up the associated LEDs on the input display. I'm not entirely sure whether they have a separate output for the visualizer or if they peek at the controller output lines and interpret the results the same way the consoles themselves do, though.

After completion of a tas, how do you go back and make last minute changes without having to redo the rest of the run from that point? Or did you just mean last minute changes near the very end of the run?
@dwangoAC4 жыл бұрын
Assuming you're talking about the changes we made right before the run was presented, we made them like any other changes to a TAS that don't cause a desync. For instance, if you're in an autoscroller you can go back and add flair by changing movement to be more exciting, such as adding a close call with an enemy as long as you ensure that things like coin count don't cause a desync later. For the post ACE section he was able to make other tweaks to improve it from an entertainment perspective.

So, if you assume a person could execute frame perfect inputs in the exact way TASBOT does, they would be able to execute any of this on console? Makes me think of using Cappy in the Grand Poo World run. How is that even possible?
@dwangoAC6 жыл бұрын
Someone pressing buttons at superhuman speeds could in fact do this but for the really fast datarates like the music player they would do irreparable damage to their muscles. Also, their controller buttons might cause so much friction that it causes it to light on fire. I should do a proper longform answer in the style of XKCD's What If? series. That could be good fun.
@hysterheister09476 жыл бұрын
@@dwangoAC that sounds amazing. Count me in. Some of the TAS videos seem too obscure to be true, so I'd love to see something more in-depth. Thank you.

I doubt there is a short answer to this, but how it is that when the bit is playing, Mario’s sprite seems to get clip through certain objects? I saw how Mario partially clips into a block for example without having any sort of collision. Just fascinating to me, and I’d love to learn more about it, God willing.
@Anafyral6666 жыл бұрын
Just enough speed with just enough precision?
@evknucklehead6 жыл бұрын
Essentially what Anafyral said. If you touch a block in exactly the right way, it'll confuse the game and put you into the block instead of stopping you. Once you're inside a block, the game will try to force you out by pushing you to the right. This can be used to clip through walls or do wall jumps in a variety of Mario games that weren't meant to have wall jumps.
@BusyCookin6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info guys! That's so insane how it works out like that. I need to research this more, God willing.

Per Lord Tom's notes at tasvideos.org/4961S.html under Bootstrapping Total Control he writes to $0098 within the initial loop itself. Basically, forcing the game to run his code in RAM every frame allows him to make changes that would otherwise be impossible.
