Oceanic Feeling (Lyrics)
It’s a blue day
We could jump Bulli
When I hit that water
When it holds me
I think about my father
Doing the same thing
When he was a boy
It’s a blue day
We could go fishing
You’ll catch the big one
Sliding the knife under the skin
Grateful for this offering
And all the living things
Under the sun
Little brother
I think you’re an angel
See your silver chain levitate
When you’re kick-flipping
Baby boy, you’re super cool
I know you’re scared
So was I
But all will be revealed in time
Oh look, the rays are in the bay now
Can you hear the waves and the cicadas all around?
I can make anything real
Brain so hot, it’s a summer body
Every day is blue and never cloudy
Don’t look down
I can make anything real
In the future
If I have a daughter
Will she have my waist or my widow’s peak?
My dreamer’s disposition or my wicked streak?
Will she split a tab with her lover and laugh at the stars
Like her mother when she was a girl?
Now the cherry-black lipstick’s gathering dust in a drawer
I don’t need her anymore
Cause I got this power
Just had to breathe out
And tune in
O, was enlightenment found? No, but I’m trying
Taking it one year at a time
Can you hear the sound? It’s shimmering higher
On the beach I’m building a pyre
(use the wood brought in by the tide)
I know you’ll show me how, I’ll know when it’s time
To take off my robes and step into the choir

That part when she speaks to her little brother... God, I fall into tears. I moved on with my boyfriend so far away from home, I remember my brother crying layin in my bed, saying that he loves me and that he doesn't want me to go. He is so closed. So serious all the time, he is only 15,oh baby boy, life is hard. I hope you don't suffer like me. Things will be alright. That song is... So good.

This song feels like healing, like the very beginning of healing, where you still have your bandages you take off to clean everyday and place new ones, where it aches when you sleep but there’s hope, it’s still painful but it’s progress and it’s, hopeful. It’s an interesting feeling and it’s wonderful in a sense and it’s looking towards the future and it doesn’t seem so scary

This song is already so important to me. Ella mentioning her father and brother and kind of just free-styling over this beat accompanied by moments of guitar is beautiful. It’s hypnotic really. The switch of melodies in between are just insane. And when she says can you hear the cicadas I almost cried it’s such a raw moment full of bliss.

When I first listened to SP, despite liking all of the songs, I didn’t have any particular love for Oceanic Feeling. I was a little disappointed, because Lorde said it was her favourite, and we all know her album outros are always amazing. But as the days passed, as I listened more and more to the album, while walking, on the bus, reading, and more, as those days turned into weeks: I find that this song has seeped into the corners of my life. I hear the verses as I go about my day, I find myself humming to it, or internally grooving to that addictive shuffle beat. It’s an incredible song, like a package of nostalgia, hope, love, healing, yearning, musing and more all in one. I love its ebb and flow, so much like the waves and so true to its title. It really makes me FEEL. This is a brilliant song, and has dethroned some favourites to make it into my top 5 Lorde songs👏🏻

"Now the cherry-black lipstick’s gathering dust in a drawer I don’t need her anymore Cause I got this power Just had to breathe out And tune in" this lyric hit so deep. i feel like in the era i grew up in and listening to lorde, the "aesthetic" at the given time was so full of angst and darkness. at that time i was dealing with debilitating mental illness amongst other less than ideal things and found so much false confidence in external looks when on the inside i had no self esteem whatsoever. nothing is wrong at all with a darker aesthetic by any means, but i understand what she means by finding power in "looking powerful". As we all step into adulthood, I think we are all finding the most powerful thing you can do is heal yourself. love the album :-)

This song hits different when I'm walking around my grandparents' yard, imagining all the fun memories I've had in the past, like playing hide-and-seek in the trees when I was small. And thinking about everything that has changed, like the trees that have been cut down and the garden that is gone; my grandfather not having the energy to tend it anymore. I imagine my mom growing up at this house, and the lives of the people who lived here before them. And then I remember that one day, this house won't be in our family anymore, and even later, probably long after I'm gone, the house won't exist at all. This is truly a wondrous song. It feels like getting picked up in the waves of time, catching a glimpse into the past and future, and then being deposited back where I started. One of my favorites from the album.

@@HardcoreSelections songs have usually been 2-4 minutes long for as long as radio has been a thing. It worked for the ad slots. Conveniently, these time intervals are also enough for keeping people’s attention, and are effective in other ways for example songs that are openings for TV series can very easily have a shorter 90 second version of them with just one chorus used. Don’t miss out on much since the extra choruses don’t usually add a lot of substance With that being said, yeah longer or irregular time interval songs are cool. It’s the most obvious signal in the medium that the artist just wants to create dope shit first and foremost

The ending lyrics "I know you'll show me how, I'll know when it's time, to take of my robes and enter the choir" get me every single time. I know Lorde writes her lyrics very intently with very specific meaning to her, but personally this speaks to me so deeply as an expression of trust in life, going where it takes you, and accepting that your time here is temporary. I guess you could say I've coopted it to that end for myself. There's just something so beautiful about it. One day we'll all pass on and enter the choir of everything that surrounds us but isn't us, not physically here as ourselves anymore but still very much present and lasting in the difference we made and those we love.

Public announcement that ABBA are releasing new songs for the first time in 40 years. 2 songs today and even an album November 5th week. ABBA and Lorde on the same year. Who'd have thought!? But I'm not questioning. Just welcoming!

This song feels like kayaking alone on a summer evening, when the sun is just about to set. Like you're on an open lake, surrounded by trees with cicadas clicking, animals scurrying around, and the ripples eddying from your kayak. The sky is clear and the soft breeze is all that is carrying you forward. I love this so much

"Now the cherry black lipstick's gathering dust in a drawer. I don't need her anymore. 'Cause I've got this power." I'm growing up in the Lorde generation. Pure Heroine, Melodrama & Solar Power are the chapters of my life.

I love how direct and straight forward she is with her vision and thoughts, it's so refreshing to hear her balance of inner strength and serenity. This song makes me experience a journey of emotions, from the calming nature of mother earth, having a personal conversation with a sibling, to imagining my future children. Despite these emotions and experiences lorde still admits shes doing her best and she isnt perfect. Highlighted in her process of channeling her power, "Breathing out and tune in." Reminding all of us that if we wanted to reach enlightenment, we have to remain present in the moment. She realizes that when her day comes she'll be ready, because shes familiar with the oceanic feeling that will carry her into the other side.

Fact that it is a long track but i still can’t get enough. I could listen to more. I love the stories she told and her wonderment. She thinking of the future having her own child made me think hmmm.. people still thinking of having a child in this time or near future, not bad at all. I love this album in an instant. I love the calm theme of sounds in each songs. It took me some repeats to understand/interpret the songs but when I did, I appreciate them more. I listen to this album everyday several repeats even. Congratulations to Lorde for another masterpiece!. Btw man with the axe is supreme! Very heartfelt

One of the best from the album because it has some poetic roots, intensely personal perception. You can imagine this song visualised by Apichatpong Weerasethakul or Mati Diop. I didn’t like the album as a whole piece of art but Im deeply thankful for Oceanic feelings, California, and Big Star
