This song isn't about wanting to live like a royal; it was pointing out that a lot of hip hop videos made it seem like luxury was synonymous with success. To the contrary, she and her friends felt turned on by a 'different kind of buzz' and felt no need for 'Maybachs,' or 'diamonds.'

I don't know what ya'll are talking about. Her second album "Melodrama" was critically acclaimed, hit number 1, and got a Grammy nom. What's your definition of "Falling Off?" LOLOL
@riggamorrischan2 жыл бұрын
@@nthsum5509 Right! Melodrama was a huge success and a fantastic album. I know her most recent album, Solar Power, got a lot of slack for not being up to the standard as her previous albums, but I enjoyed it! Melodrama is still, however, my favorite album of hers.
@kryten092 жыл бұрын
"huge success" nowadays doesn't mean what it used to. It means loved by a small % of the public and pumped out on movies/tv because the same people who own radio stations, record labels also own the news and tv/movie studios. Add in social media bubbles (where every group think it speaks for the majority) and you have "huge success" by artists that most people have never heard of.

Thought the story behind it were that her being a and from New Zealand is a comparison and her perspective or perception of living a completely different lifestyle to the rich and famous hollywood type living a glamorous lifestyle that most would only ever see on screen and for the majority isnt our reality/a dream but then is ut really all its cracked up to be because from what ive heard i probably wouldnt trade places with any hollywood celebrity money fame and materialism has no true value rather an illusion of self worth whilst feeling empty on the inside more than anything
@allenwhitmer81922 жыл бұрын
The inspiration behind the song was that she, Lorde, was looking through some of her mother's old Time Life magazines, and she came across a baseball player signing autographs for a group of adoring young fans. Across his jersey was written Royals. The baseball player- Hall of Famer George Brett. From that photograph, she wrote the song.

Not everyone considers that buying into the "stereotypical" display of wealth is something to be envied. I don't want any of that stuff. If I had money I would buy a huge piece of land, build everyone I love a house nearby, and execute my own version of "luxe" - and I would not include much, if anything, on the list of "luze" items she mentions in the song. None of that material stuff matters to me, like at all.
