STONED AT THE NAIL SALON (LYRICS )
Got a wishbone drying on the windowsill in my kitchen
Just in case I wake up and realise I’ve chosen wrong
I love this life that I have
The vine hanging over the door
And the dog who comes when I call
But I wonder sometimes what I’m missing
My hot blood’s been burning for so many summers now
It’s time to cool it down
Wherever that leads
‘Cause all the beautiful girls, they will fade like the roses
And all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again
Got a memory of waiting in your bed wearing only my earrings
We’d go dancing all over the land mines under our town
But the sun has to rise
When it does, we’ll divide up the papers
Two former hell-raisers
I’m still crazy for you, babe
My hot blood’s been burning for so many summers now
It’s time to cool it down
Wherever that leads
‘Cause all the music you loved at sixteen, you’ll grow out of
And all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again
Oh, make it good
Oh, make it good
I’d ride and I’d ride on the carousel round and round forever if I could
But it’s time to cool it down
Whatever that means
Spend all the evenings you can with the people who raised you
Cause all the times they will change, it’ll all come around
I don’t know
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon
Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again

"and the dog who comes when I call" that hits so hard. Knowing that she's talking here about Pearl which she lost not so long ago. I personally lost a pet recently, a rabbit about 5 months ago and I still can't get over her death. You can hear that subtle longing for her furry friend in Lorde's voice. This song made me cry so hard for many reasons. I have a lot of songs by Lorde that I'm attached to, "Ribs" and "Buzzcut Season" were with me in my transition from teenage to adulthood, the whole "Melodrama" era describes things that I realeased about myself. And now, this song came in time to keep up with my transition to an independent person, away from my loved childhood, from my parents, from some friends, from almost everything I knew. And again, thank you Lorde, for making a song about a important part of this incredible, even though weird and scary, life of mine.

My mom died a month ago. Some days after her funeral, I remembered this song, and that made me cry harder than I ever did. I don't think I spent all of the evenings I could with the people who raised me, and that's the most hurtful part. We didn't have a good mother/daughter relationship, but I sure love her. Now this song take a whole new meaning in my life, unfortunely, but I think that's what it is about. I really wish i could ride round and round forever in the carousel, but nothing lasts forever. Time changes and things go with it. I don't know if it's time for me to cool it down, cause my life and grief are consuming me, but I believe I will move on, wherever that leads.

Ella is a real life goddess. I’ve been completely in awe of her talent and beauty since it all started for her with pure herione. The amount of work she puts into each record is insane. From lyrics to visuals. Not to mention she has a great range and her stage presence is mind blowing. She will always be my favorite artist!

I love this song. It's like she keeps having these genuine feelings, maybe basic or trite but true and worth exploring, and then she backs off like a lot of people. Maybe I'm just hungry. Maybe I'm just having a bad day. Or in a lot of people's cases, maybe it's the drugs. But your insights and what you know to be true are valid to you, regardless of where they came from. The push and pull of fully embracing the emotions and then backing off, then seeing the weariness when she says "Maybe I'm just stoned at the nail salon.... Again : /" In all seriousness and with utmost respect, this could be a country song.

I am absolutely in love with this song and these performances. I do think that the hook is a little lyrically beneath Lorde’s standards but it is incredibly honest. Can’t lie, I’ve cried often to this song bc it is such a beautiful transitional song. Either way, Solar Power is going to be such an incredible and powerful record. Love you Lorde!!
