@@LordMuckit’s just a brute of a tractor, to only have 150 hp, but when they were made, that’s what all the manufacturers were doing, the high horsepower front wheel assist tractors were not out yet. Allis Chalmers must not be very popular over there. Thanks for the videos.

So Muck, what was the point of all the noise, smoke, and peak numbers? It's how the machine works in the field and how long it lasts that matters.

@mikemcginley630911 ай бұрын
Could you explain for the un- initiated what you were doing,how you were doing it, and why you were doing it.
@LordMuck11 ай бұрын
So you have a PTO (Power Take Off) which is a shaft to drive equipment (balers, power harrows, etc) The machine at the rear applies a measured load which increases. It does this until the tractor starts to stall out. In this time it gives a read out of peak power and torque.

What’s the backend of Major Bob from? Surely not an original Fordson Major backend because I doubt that 1,000rpm PTOs were used then, and if they were did Fordson really over engineer the PTO drive to withstand at least 6 times! the original design load specs?
@LordMuck11 ай бұрын
Just standard Super Major and Diesel Major components.
@Titan60411 ай бұрын
For some reason the original fordsons had the engine running quite slowly for 540 rpm, which meant that they were not far short of 1000 rpm PTO when at full engine speed. On the new performance majors they changed the gearing so 540rpm PTO = 1500rpm engine speed, perhaps still a little slow for the engine but it did improve the PTO horsepower a bit and helped justify the "new performance". And yes, the Fordson is very over engineered, hence why so popular as tractor pullers!

Large power harrows, bed tillers, large square balers etc etc
@martymartin28949 ай бұрын
How does the test work how does it put pressure on the engine to get its reading thanks. I see now that it is connected just like a baler or something else would be, but it must be very heavy or bolted down so that it doesn't flip with all that power.
@heliarche8 ай бұрын
@@martymartin2894 I'm not 100% here but I believe the PTO is running either a generator or a hydraulic pump. Whichever one it runs is going to be under a predetermined load either electrical or hydraulic. They'll use a hydraulic pressure reading or electrical output reading and translate that to HP and torque. I hope that makes some kind of sense...
