I combined the 2 videos of this epic performance of "Wonderful is Your Name" into one, in order to preserve the best elements of both the video and audio available. I love seeing the expressions and interaction between Cory and the drummer as well as the people watching nearby and in the crowd. Also you can hear the bass pedals much better on this version. :-)

The way Cory didn’t end on the tonic, made me think that there was a deeper meaning to it. A symbol of no end. Even though Melvin passed, his music will allways live. Rest in Piece!

If be ended on the tonic that ending would've sounded contrived and forced. Just because he didn't go all the way back to Bb doesn't mean it wasn't resolved

@@uncomfortableshirt3870 no, it most certainly isn't resolved. By definition, that harmonic progression that Cory played is unresolved in a harmonic sense.

The Ending progression was Melvin's Signature Chord progression move that he recorded with James Hall; which is popular in gospel music circles. Cory played Melvins sigutuare move as the ending..that's why he was overcome by emotion at the end.

I've discovered something you might also have noticed. Hearing Cory Henry play jazz makes me want to focus on the music, but hearing him play gospel makes me want to read the comments. There's something about the community of gospel, the affirmations, the choirs, it just makes me want to hear everybody's joy in the comments. It's a minor miracle to find a happy comments section, but the gospel ones never fail.

The fact that's so wild to me is how he uses both preset changes and individual and group drawbar changes. I can't tell whether he's just going back and forth between the "b" and "b flat" preset keys to switch between one set of drawbars and the other, or also other presets. He's juggling a lot of drawbar positions in his head, whichever. It's funny, I can't even do quick drawbar changes on my M3 because there's so much dust in the contacts that if you're not careful you'll break a drawbar's circuit and mute that harmonic. It's especially bad on the 16'' drawbar for the upper manual. But if I could I can't imagine being able to do such fluid changes in time with the music.

Its like its a living breathing entity he is coaxing emotions out of. Never have I heard a keyboard played with such vibrancy. He is a true wonder. Highly recommended: On his channel it shows him playing when he's 4. He had more harmonic intuition than most adults playing for decades. Its the most shocking display of overt talent any keyboardist has ever demonstrated anywhere. Its utterly eerie when you realize what he's doing. I believe that if he had been ingrained in structured music lessons it might have easily destroyed this effortless spontaneity we see here and that is appreciated by so many today. Parents beware of not letting your child take charge with their instrument.

It's this freaky once in , who knows, I've never heard it at such a skilled level. He has no barrier of limitations in emoting through his instrument which is why everyone practices. He was born no barrier just sing through instrument but on top his influences Glenn gould , ray Charles, Oscar Peterson he's got all that knowledge and logic the way Gould understood Bach he understands soul/emotions through instrument again because he's been doing it since two. I like how he essentially composes solos but in a jazz groove style. It's just such a fascinating genre hes exploring. I understand he doesn't like to categorize coming from gospel background but imo it's an insane form of jazz he's navigating. His muscle memory on b3 is just beyond lol.

Love from west coast. I love how everybody reacts everytime he flips the chord structure. You have to really know the original progressions to appreciate. Hezekiah walker got like 4 huhnned staple gospel songs😂 growin up in cali, hez was my fav NY gospel sound out of all the choirs to come out NY

The eye and ear contact of both musicians was impeccable, their boom, boom, bap cadence infectious and carried the melody to a different realm, would love to see Hezekiah Walker somehow insert this tribute to Melvin onto one of his tracks

I cannot believe that this isn’t more famous. Nothing in the entire sphere of music and art has inspired me more than this in my life. I watch this every single time I feel down, when I feel tired of living life the same old way. It reminds me that there’s something different to this place, and it’s just right there along with us. Something bigger waiting to come through us and bring love into the world. I’m not comfortable with the church, the word god or the things that have happened in my life around the church. But I do believe in what religions are trying to express. I believe in that force coming through Henry, and if that’s not what god is then I don’t think I understand life.

Professionalism all around. Drummer...PROPS. You knew your place and you stayed there and still was crushing. WOW. And well..Cory...is Cory. Studio ready just as is. Hard to find musicians that know there place......Old school and just plain professional. You can still shine when you are not doing too much. Can't say enough about the drummer. This younger generation need to look, listen and learn. Crazy good on everything. As many times I have seen this it continues to brighten my day and refreshes me from all of these young musicians that can play but don't know there place. Look, Listen and Learn.

Something different about the black church. How the audience responds to specific niche things in unison is something that goes beyond even my perception of what reality is. Henry's accents are bringing something magnificent out of these parishioners that I'm still trying to figure out. I'm just blown away by the whole thing to be honest.

Ok, I'm gonna make a long comment for this. I'm very grateful that I'm still alive, becoming one of millions of people who watch and listen to this, and still have a chance to witness this. Very skillful, with lots of soul and emotions, well crafted, the message of the music is well delivered even though it's just instrumental. Call me whiny, but I'm teary (tears of joy, for sure) watching this, and still feel the same even though I watch this like thousand times. To Taylor Mesple, thank you for uploading this. :D Making music sounds so rich and complete in a very pocket way is not everybody's thing, especially using only one or two instrument. Usually most people need extras like sound effect, choirs, or more instruments to make it full and feel complete. because there is so much space to be fulfilled: skills, emotions, honesty, message of the songs, etc. That goal, in my opinion, is what every musician should reach. Cory got it. Cory nailed it. A very big props to you.*standing ovation Also, shout out to every musicians in the world who always want to present their art with honesty. You'll be surprised by listener's reaction when you present your art with honesty in it. :D
