I thought long and hard before buying a washer drier when my drier broke down. I live in a small apartment and therefore haven’t really got the space. I love my washer drier but because I am so use to hanging my clothes on a clothes airer when wet I only use the drier occasionally to dry my towels or bed linen. This stops condensation mounting up having big items hanging around my home waiting to dry.

I would never have the space for two separate units, but I also like the convenience of putting the washing in, setting the timer to have it start overnight (when my electricity costs are lower), and have it all finished in the morning. Aside from the delay timer, and the load size, the comprehensive display was an important factor in my choice of machine. It was not just that it displayed the time it would run, but that it gave me at a single glance a comprehensive display of all the settings I had set just in case I had accidentally set something wrong.

I have a basic question. Lets say that the washer dryer has the following capacity - 10 kg washing/6 kg drying. You put 6 kg of laundry for washing. After the washing cycle though this 6 kg of laundry will become more than 6 kg because it will contain water of course. Does that mean that you have to remove some of the washed laundry before drying? I think you get my question. Thank you:)

You should mention that these higher end machines are being available for rent on monthly basis. You pay a premium but everything is covered. Imagine people spending hundreds of pounds on high speed optical fiber data connections, TV and subscriptions and forget the essentials like washing and drying. Spending 30 ponds a month on one of these machines is a rational price considering they get used every day and might need repair some day. Contracts range between 1-6 years, in the Netherlands it is a big thing. Btw, some machines like Siemens IQ machines have LED blue lighting so you can see the tumble clearly (Only at the start though) That should be an option for continuous on or off.

Washing machines harbor a great deal of moisture, and vibration is par for the course; if you think washing machine are a good place for cheaply made expensive electronics, think again. I don't want a smart washer/dryer; and other than start the machine, I don't want to communicate with it, if it needs sophisticated programming to assist in troubleshooting, chances are there's not much I'm going to do about it. I currently inherited a a washer when I bought my home, and it contains a dial full of preprogrammed setting. Well guess what; other than normal, towels, and sheets, I have not used any other programs. And if the towel and sheets programs weren't there, I think I know how to set the water temperature to hot. I've watched half a dozen videos on the subject of washing machines, and which are reliable and affordable ($500-$600); everyone who attempted to answer that question provided a different answer. My guess is it depends on what they're selling. My conclusion is... there are no reliable machines at any price available today. Our grandparents had machines that lasted 20-25 years. To buy anything close to that today, you'll pay the price of a new machine, when you buy a used pre-2918 Speed Queen, and if you're lucky it'll be purely mechanical. If you find one, in good condition, it will have a lifespan left that will be longer than anything you buy today. And do you know why? Because manufacturers today believe that your money is worthless, and if you buy their products so do you. If everything you have is easy come, easy go, then have at it.

Great video and very informative. I am considering purchasing either the Miele WTR860WPM washer dryer or the Bosch WDU28569GB (?) washer dryer on the right in this video. The Miele costs £2000 and the Bosch costs £1000. Both washer dryers have very similar offerings, with Miele (it seems) edging ahead of the Bosch ever so slightly in terms of features and performance. However, there is a large price difference between the two. What are your thoughts on the differences (price, performance and features) between the two?
@lords-electrical2 жыл бұрын
Must admit we don't normally stock the Miele model so it is probably a little unfair to compare it. If the features and spec are very similar then i would go for the Bosch all day long as these are great machines anyway, especially if it is half price.
@i2mee2 жыл бұрын
@@lords-electrical Thanks for your response. I appreciate you don’t stock the Miele. My confusion is more about performance rather than features and specification. Because, for example, the Indesit shown in your video has quite similar specification and features to the Bosch shown in the same video, however they are very different prices (Bosch is a high end, and Indesit is lower end). So the reason for the price difference must come down to brand name and actual performance, I am guessing, rather than specification? I guess my question, in short is, is a significantly more expensive washer dryer (the Bosch) expected to perform much better than a significantly cheaper one (the Indesit) if both have similar features and specification. If so, how is that performance difference measured or quantified to cause such a huge price difference?

Hi, I recently bought a 2nd hand washer/dryer and the clothes have a strange musty smell after using the dryer. The load size doesn't make a difference to the smell, I've dried 1kg and it smells the same. When air drying the clothes they smell fine. There's no sign of mould in the drum or draw and I've ran 2 drum clean cycles with a cleaning product I bought. What could be causing the smell? I read on a forum that it could be dust on the heating element that needs cleaning.
@lords-electrical15 күн бұрын
If the drying side hasn't been used, then yes it could be a build up of dust on the heating element. Hopefully after a couple of drying loads, the dust should have gone. Also make sure you leave the door open to air and dry after each washing and drying load as this makes a huge difference to musty smells in appliances.

That's a big issue with me. I just replaced my 5 yr old LG large capacity washer dryer after the drum failed and no spare parts were available. I went with a LG Wash Tower (two separate units that are stacked) and I can do twice as many loads as the old unit in the same amount of time. The old LG large capacity washer dryer unit was a pain to clean after each use as there is no lint filter (only a drain filter at the bottom). The lint would solidify behind the door gasket and would require removal of the door gasket periodically (not fun). Also, the drain pump failed after a couple of years as well as the interior light. The 3 to 4 hour plus cycle time to wash and dry a load of clothes was too much. I would not buy this type of unit if your household has more than two people. The backup of dirty clothes is cumbersome. I can do one load of clothes with the new setup in less than two hours. Well worth the switch.

what is the drying results compared to a single dryer?
@lords-electrical3 жыл бұрын
Technically they won't be too different, but you should always find that the performance and efficiency will be a bit better on separate dryer compared to a combined washer dryer

i find that the normal dryer we had before made the laundry much MUCH softer than the washer dryer does!

the thing is i dont know what size of loads are. i just fill my washing machine up and not too packed and switch it to the 59 min cycle. i have a hoover dynamic next 8kg washing machine and want to upgrade to a washer dryer thats 9-10kg
@cosettapessa64172 жыл бұрын
You can’t fill a washer dryer. Use the scale and reach the max for the program you use. If it’s too much before drying you have to remove something.

Having to replace 6 year old AEG 1600 spin w/d.. New machines are generally too deep for space unless we go for a 1400 spin model with a small volume. Any thoughts please?
@lords-electrical2 жыл бұрын
You are correct that a lot of washer dryers with larger loads like 9kg and above are quite deep compared to smaller load machines.

I would need to put the tumble dryer in our garage, so taking your advice I’m looking at condenser ones. However, the energy efficiency seems to only go up to B. Is this an issue ? Should I still be after an energy efficient model that is A+?

I don't think that any tumble dryer will be rated A+ for energy efficiency. The combination of a heating element, electric motor and absence of insulation means that they are inefficient. Condenser dryers also use water to condense the moisture from drying the clothes in the drum.

Just a couple of questions: what capacity drum (in c.u and kg) would you need to wash and dry a king size comforter/duvet effectively? Also what depth should the washer-dryer be so that it sits flush with other standard sized base units. I’m fortunate to be able to buy my washer-dryer before we select our kitchen design.
@jjjilani96342 жыл бұрын
At least 13kg capacity.

I'm currently looking for a washer/ dryer combo, I've read numberous reviews of mutiple hotpoint units that have very poor drying performance, whats your views on this?
@lords-electrical3 ай бұрын
On any washer dryer, the drying performance can be poor if there is too much wet washing put in there. The performance will always be better if you put half a load max in the machine to dry.

i could only dry the clothes in my flat, what could cause mould in the flat. So yes i need a washer dryer.
@eddienewall50332 жыл бұрын
Mould is caused by moisture in the air which condenses on cold surfaces encouraging the mould to grow. I don't see how a washer dryer will solve a problem with mould.

If I've got a choice between 9/6 kg or 10.5/7 kg Washer Dryer, which should I go for?
@lords-electrical3 жыл бұрын
Really depending on how many washes you are doing and how many people in the house. Don't forget on large load machines, the depth of the machine will be greater which can make a difference. Also larger load machines can put a lot more stress on the bearings as well.

How do u know the amount kilogram for dresses u have in for example how do u know the dresses you putting in is 6kg
@lords-electrical2 жыл бұрын
It is always a difficult one to gauge the weight of the washing, but i would always say make sure when you are loading the appliance that you have allowed plenty of space for the clothes to rotate and move around during the washing process. If you cram it full, then the performance of the wash will not be very good.
@eddienewall50332 жыл бұрын
You can put the dresses in a carrier bag and weigh them on either bathroom scales or luggage scales.

Does it actually weigh the clothes? What happens if you put more than 6.0kg in the dryer mode?
@lords-electrical Жыл бұрын
It won't normally weigh the clothes, it will send a certain amount of water through at the start of the washing program, and depending how much is saturated, it will determine the load size

If you live somewhere they're sold. This one has a heat pump, and Electrolux's patent has blocked the sale of non-Electrolux washer dryers with heat pumps in Europe. But in the US, Australia and Asia, maybe. Note small items in this model, whether it's the Euro/UK washer-only version or the rest-of-the-world combo washer-dryer must per the user manual go in a mesh bag to avoid mishaps with things getting sucked where they shouldn't; there's quite a large gap between the drum and the door seal which I assume is due to the slightly different angles the machine sets the drum at for different kinds of cycle.
@gloriarice79532 жыл бұрын
