I have a set of Kenmore washer and dryer. I’ve had them for 25 years now. I hope they last another 25 years. But when they give up the ghost, I’m going to do speed queen. Expensive but basic and sturdy. I am blind. I cannot read any of the displays, etc. on these new washers and dryers. I need simplicity. Plus the more bells and whistles. There are the more things there are to break. I will take basic any day.

Our editor has a Kenmore front load washer as well! And its getting quite old but continues to perform. Fun fact; a lot of the Kenmore washers are actually LG units. We recently replaced the water intake valve on the Kenmore and all the inside parts are LG.

The other drawback of pedestal bases is that you lose a potential work surface. Without pedestals, the tops of a front load washer and dryer can be used for folding and organizing your laundry. When you add a pedestal base, the tops become too high to be used as a work surface.

I just love it when the retailer tells me to not forget using shock-pads or pedestals, and i ask them "why would i buy that?"

I have the Electrolux 7537 Series and it’s on a pedestal but my home is on a slab so there is literally no vibration. I’ve been super happy with my ELux machines.

How do the auto detergent dispensing machines deal with very hard water? Also, is the detergent pump a major failure point?
@TheJimbo301
@TheJimbo301 2 ай бұрын
Good questions. GE and Whirlpool both have auto dispensers, but I haven't heard about soap pump failures....I own and LG, love my washer, it doesn't have an auto dispenser...so you have to be careful not to add too much detergent. It really only takes a little bit to get the cloths clean...even in cold water.

From Blake: Hardwater is usually never an issue with the automatic detergent dispensers. There is a small motor that creates a vacuum that pulls the detergent out of the container into the machine. No water is mixed at that point so hard water should never be an issue. To answer the second question. No, I have had almost no failures with the auto dispenser not working properly. The only failures I can think of in in recent history, would be certain models of Maytag frontload washing machines from about 4 to 5 years back had some issues. Maytag quickly issued a service bulletin on the problem what parts needed to be replaced to fix the problem. Since then, there has been no failures that I can remember.

@@BoulevardHome Wouldn't hard water require more detergent? Can you adjust the amount used? Thanks for the info.
@BoulevardHome
@BoulevardHome 2 ай бұрын
@@chrishill9016 Yes, typically hard water would require more detergent. Refer to the use and care manual to see what (if any) adjustment can be made for the auto dispenser.

Too bad Miele left the American full size washer and drying market. I think one can still get their 220V washer and dryer and YES it just plugs into the back of the electric dryer which goes into the 220V socket. Saying that, just spend the extra money on a good Speed Queen front or top loader. They should last a long time.

Can you please tell me which brand of washing machine have a cleanout access in the front of the machine? I saw Maytag’s cleanout is at the bottom of the machine. You have to take out the back panel to access. That seems crazy. The rep at the store would never tell you this!!😢
@RobertH-qb5it

The term 'clean out' is not correct in the video. It is the pump filter he is talking about. Most front loaders have a small door to access this on the front (LG, Samsung, etc). Some, such as Speed Queen, do not, which is ridiculous since a SQ front loader is very expensive.

GE, LG, and Samsung all have pump filter cleanout access. Some other brands might have them on certain models, Electrolux does not which is one of the biggest drawbacks to that brand. Otherwise Elecrolux in our opinion is one of the best front load options out there.

Not a fan of Electrolux. I bought a front loader it lasted 18 months and the water inlet valve started leaking. No one had the parts for it. It was on back order over a year. I finally got tired of waiting and bought a speed queen. Electrolux was a $1000 mistake.

my comments: Completly agree about the clean out. I'm tech savy and I have to open my maytag which does not have a cleanout door once a year for coins, screws Additional item, hability to change the door opening right or left, I thought it was available on all washing/dryer. My Maytag does not allow changing the door of the washing machine. Auto Dispenser will save people from the softener clogging the washing machine. I was shocked of the clogging in my machine that I must open once a year.

Information does seem a bit outdated. Notably the sheets and whites coming cleaner in top loaders than front loads because of more water. Not the case anymore. Front loads clean much much better than modern day HE top loaders. Also spot on about the pump Filters. Electrolux is really nice but the pump filter is the main reason LG wins over them. Such a pain when a sock goes missing.

Appreciate your input! You’re absolutely right; laundry technology has come a long way, and front loaders have improved greatly in their efficiency and cleaning ability. Would love to see some future electrolux models integrating the pump filter. We'll be keeping an eye out for that. Future reviews to come.

When I did buy new washing machine, I did not want auto dispenser. Auto dispensers are common failing part in European washing machines. I think it's better learn how to read and how to measure detergent amount. It's not really so hard.

This is incorrect information! Whilst he portrays the idea of pedestal machines and the “centre of gravity” being a concern… the actual culprit is a trade off. Front loaders with ballast weights located around the drum perform far better during washing… however are less suitable to unstable conditions ie. a pedestal, beam flooring etc. As for liquid detergent automatic dosers, these are a complete gimmick!!! Liquid detergent is a simply a DILUTED form of powder detergent, and being diluted, means the chance of overuse in the laundry setting would require +2x more than recommended when compared with powder varieties. Regarding whites linens and the need for increased water (ie top loader) to provide better results😂😂… absolutely false! Just take a look at how any professional laundry processes “whites”!! It’s nothing to do with water volume and everything to do with proper detergents, agitation and temperature… which cannot be achieved with a top loader.

My top loader always did great on my whites. My front loader tends to make things look dingy. I've tried all kinds and amounts of detergent and I have soft water.

Liquid detergents are not a diluted form of powder, they use different formulations. Powders can contain a much wider range of chemicals because as dry powders they don't interact with each other in the packet, whereas liquid detergents the selection of chemicals is much more limited. For example, powder detergents can contain oxygen bleach agents which make hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid when mixed with water, either of which if used in a liquid detergent would destroy other ingredients such as the enzymes, in the bottle and also slowly decompose into oxygen and water / acetic acid. So with liquid detergents if you want the anti-bacterial and stain removal benefits of oxygen bleach you have buy them separately and add them to the wash. Miele's autodose machine have separate liquid detergent (ultraphase 1) and the ultraphase 2 contains hydrogen peroxide, with added citric acid to stop it decomposing. Automatic dosers add to the cost of the machine and things that can go wrong, my preference is to use a powder detergent because it helps to keep the machine clean and free of bacteria and smells as well as washing better than most liquids.

I think your information is outdated. I have a pedestal under my front load washing machine and it is fine. It doesn't shake the whole floor (and it isn't in the basement). They are also dark gray and are far superior to top loaders in getting my cloths clean (consumer's report agrees). Including whites. Buy an LG 4.5 cubic foot or 5 cubic foot. Don't use too much laundry soap, it only needs a tiny bit because it uses WAY less water and energy to clean my cloths. And LG is the most reliable for a front load washer. The only down side is that the 4.5 cubic foot washer doesn't have an auto dispenser for laundry detergent...so you'll have to control yourself and don't add too much.

I don’t have confidence in Consumer Reports to begin with and that goes back 45 years or so to where they rated only a few select models and that wasn’t models I would have bought. I’d like to know proof of their better cleaning abilities. My sister in law had her first one from the now UK and has used since that time approximately 45 years ago. She gets new when they break down and that happens so frequently any more that I wouldn’t have one. I plan to get Speed Queen when our 4 year old top loader goes which the panel already has failed under the extended warranty. Can you point me to other sources? This comment is not meant to be negative in any way. I’d just like to evaluate for future purchases.

Thanks for commenting! I think it also depends on if the machine was blanced correctly during installation and might depend on the manufacturer as well. LG seems to have their balance dialed in. The vibration (if balanced correctly) on the LG all-in-one wash can't even be felt when placing your fingers on the balancing feet during the spin cycle.
