@@dawnswaffer1088 Yep there is NO WAY I’m doing w wash for 8/9 hours. When the guy installed it he said. It’s one of the most complicated I’ve ever had the displeasure of having. I’ve never done so many 30 minute quick washes in my life. I just about forgot about the “adding water” during a drying cycle” what the hell is that all about. All you hear is a blast every 5 mins I thought it was like steam. Im really not sure what the water/steam is doing going back from the drawer into the machine. Select the cycle according to fabric type, much like you would when using a dryer, if you’re drying synthetics, select synthetics. Then, select the ‘Dry Only’ option. If you wish to alter the level of drying, say from an Easy Iron dry, to a Cupboard Dry, just press the ‘Drying Level’ button until the desired level is selected.

@NickCaruana
@NickCaruana 7 ай бұрын
Well, depending on what cycle you put it on, depends on what cycle it dries on. Similar to using an actual dryer, you’d select a Cotton or Synthetics cycle, as Cotton uses a higher heat to dry, and Synthetics is a lower heat. When it comes to water, that’s because the washer will either use steam to aid drying, using the residual heat from the steam to dry the laundry, but equally uses water to condense. Traditionally, condenser dryers use cold air running through a condenser, removing the moisture from the humid air and condensing it into water. The washing machine doesn’t have a condenser, so instead uses cold water to condense the humid air.

It also takes a long time to start drying! The guy I spoke to on the support line said that was the machine building up steam to do the drying. I hate the noise it makes every few minutes, sometimes in it throws in another spin cycle too and this apparently is because the sensor has sensed that there is too much moisture.

i didn't expect those white\blue LEDs - i'm used to green and orange LEDs on hotpoint\indesit machines. personally i think these white\blue ones look great. i think the reason they kept mixed wash+dry to 1200rpm max is because often mixed cycles are designed to wash both synthetic and cotton together, and hotpoint\indesit synthetic cycles are capped to 1200rpm. but i agree with you, it would be more logical for it be 1400rpm to reduce drying time as much as possible. by the way, happy new year!
@TechyBen
@TechyBen Жыл бұрын
Yep. The problem is (from my experience as a useless bachelor ;) ) that synthetics hold a lot of water and don't squeeze out like cottons do. So spinning them at 1400+ speeds is DANGEROUS. As the machine might hop out of the kitchen and take a ride around the garden at those speeds and weights! I found the 1200 spins in Bosch and Miele to be as good as the 1400/1600 Hotpoint spins. But it depends on the drum size and type it seems.
@thelaundrycookie1200
@thelaundrycookie1200 Жыл бұрын
the logic behind them capping synthetic cycles to 1200 is that these fabrics don't usually need faster speeds. in the past, synthetic cycles always used to be capped at 800\900rpm. though nowadays synthetic washes are being treated like cotton washes - a lot of manufacturers are giving them 1400rpm and very intensive cotton-style wash actions. some types of synthetic fabrics can hold more water than cotton, but they generally spin out much easier, hence the reduced speed and significantly reduced hold at full speed on most synthetic cycles. it's not dangerous to spin any fabric at any speed, and machines won't go walking from that (unless they're very poorly built). this is what the machine's load balance sensing is for, to protect the machine and its surroundings during spin cycles. the thing is, high speeds may crease certain fabric excessively or misshape them. hence the reduced speeds on certain cycles. spin performance varies wildly between brands, it's all down to drum design and spin pattern. i've found the best performance to be from 2010s LG, due to their sensible length holds at full speed and effective drum designs. and the worst performance to be from current hisense WFQ- models (ie their own models), due to very poor drum design with almost no holes in, along with a ridiculously short hold at full speed despite having a spin spray when it reaches full speed. the results from a normal 1400rpm in my hisense is probably equal to that of around 800rpm in my LG, maybe even slower... bosch fits quite close to LG on this scale, they generally spin well
@TechyBen
@TechyBen Жыл бұрын
@@thelaundrycookie1200 I certainly found synthetics always come out damper than cottons, and often had jumpers/jeans hold so much water it's not good for the machine/load balance (load balancing hasn't always existed). But I agree that drum design/cheapness seems to come into it. As said, Miele and Bosch can have smaller drums that do better than Hotpoint and LG with massive drums (We had one of the early 12kg+ drum machines back in the day :P ).
@thelaundrycookie1200
@thelaundrycookie1200 Жыл бұрын
indeed, back in the day balance sensing wasn't really a thing. instead, machines just flung the load around the edges of the drum and hoped for the best. although back then, machines were built significantly better so they could better withstand the levels of imbalance from such unbalanced spins. i find drum volume itself rarely affects spin performance. design and spin programming is everything. unless the drum is wider than standard (example - haier).
@TechyBen
@TechyBen Жыл бұрын
@@thelaundrycookie1200 I remember the "pancake" motor LG. It had a massive drum, and we'd put it in demo mode in the store and it'd spin quietly... till we realised it was rubbing the rubber seal dry for too long and starting to get hot and smoke! XD

@lords-electrical

The clunking noise could be the door locking when the program has started. The drum will only rotate slowly when drying, not spin like the washing side will. If it is drying ok, i would try it a couple more times to make sure it is washing or drying ok, if not i would contact the retailer to get them to check it.
@tetsuoshima7385
@tetsuoshima7385 Ай бұрын
@@lords-electricalI think they mean that the door is shut fine and the clunking is related to the detergent drawer/water gurgle and is every ten seconds. As for the spinning of the drum, it’s pretty much non existent throughout the dry only cycle, but I don’t know why. I would suggest this is extremely poorly designed.

@ Yes, same here and from what I can gauge that is just ‘normal’ for this machine, being that it is a non-condenser type of drier and has to heat-up the drum. Thanks for your video - very useful. I've noticed a couple of times that the machine has a feint smell of burning upon opening it up during a dry cycle. I've been told to check the "lint trap" for any debris or fluff. Where is the lint trap? I know where the regular filter is but have to remove the base board from my kitchen units to get to it. Is this the same filter as the lint trap? Too frightened to put the machine on now other than when I am in the house for fear of a house fire!

Washer dryers wouldn't normally have a lint trap or fluff filter. Any fluff or lint would normally go out of the waste hose during the wash. The filter on these machines are normally at the bottom behind the kick strip where you can get access to the pump filter where coins or small items end up that fall out of clothing items.

@@lords-electrical many thanks for the reply - that's kind of what I thought. I know that standalone dryers do have lint/fluff traps that regularly need clearing - but this was the advice given out on their website so was a bit bemused by it. I'm just a bit worried that two or 3 times, since I got the machine in July, it has smelt faintly of burning when I've opened up the door - and I only ever wash and dry on cooler settings so am a bit concerned. Quite a common comment from our customers now. A lot of modern machines use a lot less water than machines of around 10 years ago. I would check to make sure the water tap is open enough first. If it isn't then the pump on the machine will be quite loud as the pump is trying to pump the water through but the pressure is not enough. If it is on ok, then i would keep an eye on the wash performance. If the clothes are coming out clean, then i wouldn't worry and just keep an eye on it.

Hi, just wondering if the 'Dry Only' option is available on ALL programmes - don't think it is but would be grateful if you could please confirm. I've been putting damp towels in the dryer to try to dry them but the machine washes them again! Is the 'Dry Only' option only available on the top three programmes (i.e. Wash & Dry XS Rapid, Wash & Dry Mixed and Wash & Dry XL Bed & Bath).

I believe you turn the dial to the applicable cycle, say Cotton for towels or t-shirts, or Synthetics for a low heat dry. Then you select the ‘Dry Only’ option. Need not be alarmed if water goes in, as the machine uses water to condense the humid air, and drain away the water. Equally, I can imagine that the ‘Dry Only’ option is available with the Cotton, Synthetics, Delicates, and Woollens cycles.

Hi. I usually do a quick wash, 30m maximum. The leaflet says, "Select the wash cycle compatible with the type of garments you wish to dry". All my garments get the same program because there is not a snowball in Hell's chance I'm going to take hours to do a washing. In order to do a 'dry only' does it have to be set to a wash & dry program so even if I use the 'quick wash', I have to reset it to a program that includes a drying cycle and then attempt the 'dry only'? I'm a very literal individual. These instructions are obviously confusing considering the amount of comments/questions. If the answer to my question is 'yes', then the type of garment doesn't matter a damn! What matters is the program selected includes a drying cycle to 'skip' to, otherwise the machine has a hissy fit. Mo. (Your average post-menopausal woman. That's right the type that Carol Vorderman states is the most dangerous species on Earth. X. 😄
