Good balanced review. Sometimes I feel that reviewers are overly incentivized for taking either the "this is the best game ever" or "this is the worst game ever made" position. Also, I was also frustrated with the board overlays for no reason, but I think that was so the board could be language independent, and the overlays would be specific by language. Feels like they could be a way around that.

This games looks a lot like lords of hellas in how it feels. I don't think it's worth it giving I have LoH and I don't think it does anything better. In both cases though, don't go in if you expect a balanced experience. This is not it. This is a chaotic area control. The balance will come from the players as they get familiar with the game. AR seems to be the best studio to create a sandbox for you to experience and evolve into. If you are looking for rigid/tights rules for optimal plays (and no fun at all imo), this wont be for you. Based on your review, it seems that balancing the PVP and PVE strat was perhaps easier in LoH? In LoH, I've told my group that they must juggle between their army and leveling up their heroes. Slowly working towards a PVP and PVE wincons. At some point, someone will make a mistake (over extend a tad too much, not protect the right territory) or get unlucky fighting a monster, which will open a brief window of opportunity that you must take advantage in. The length is unpredictable in both games, but LoH player turn seemed to be faster and more involved?

This game is shallow and unfinished. Yes it has a couple of interesting things but they did not make a fun playable game. It’s unfinished and should have had a couple of actions Taken out to streamline it.

Any ideas how to house rule what you’re talking about? I’m looking around for any and every house rule people have come up with before I play with my group to make it a great experience for repeat game nights with it. Thanks!
