McKinnett uses Celtic influences often in her singing. This song is beautiful and inspiring. It takes me to places of Celtic Charm and Old Ways, of which her title is of this piece. Loreena McKennitt has been a favorite of mine for many years. The pipe may possibly be an "Ullian Pipe" which is very Irish, but I'm not sure how it is played (or even spelled). Very nice reaction to this lovely song. .

I love Loreena McKennitt! She's from Stratford, Ontario, just down the road from my city of London. I've been following her since she first started playing the folk festivals in 1985 with only her harp and an electric keyboard. She sings with a Irish-tinged lilt to her voice, but speaks with no accent. She was born in Manitoba, moved to Stratford in 1981, and still lives there. She has travelled to Ireland, Spain and all over Europe, tracing the path and evolution of Celtic music. Those bagpipes were Irish Uilleann pipes, the bag is pumped by bellows under the arm, as opposed to being filled by mouth like Scottish bagpipes. The drum you saw being played very briefly with the small hand paddle (called a tipper) is a Bodhrán, a round Celtic handheld frame drum.

The Mystic's Dream and All Souls Night are very mystical and enchanting tunes by this artist.

This whole concert is fantastic. Loreena is a great singer, songwriter, and musician. Dante’s Prayer, Never-ending Road, and The Mummers’ Dance, are extremely good, as are several of her other songs.

The thing you thought was like a bagpipe is related to bagpipes. They are call Uilleann (pronounced ILL-an) pipes, or sometimes Union pipes. They are from Ireland. Rather than blowing into a bag, the air comes from a bellows under the left arm.

Been a fan of Lorenna since 97 after I bought The Book of Secrets. She has many beautiful songs. The Highwayman and The Mummers' Dance are two of my favorites of hers. I think you'll like Tori Amos' Winter too which is my favorite song of all time. Please react to it if you haven't heard it before.

She is in my ears since the end of the 80's. I love so deeply. The ''accent'' is not canadien, it's more old english as she often use old english poem or old song text that she modify and turn in unic song. Hope you'll watch more :-). She truely doing ',world'' music by using instrument from all over, often old and traditional instrument, the genre is celtic base, but with east and middle east influance as well.

Boy, is this welcome. For 30 years or more there's been nothing like LK. I started with "The Visit" and never stopped. When her fiance passed away and she went into mourning, we all did, too. Happily, she changed her mind and never missed a beat. This live show is delish from first note to last. She's got too many great records to pick out a few. Just reach in and grab. You can't miss.

Thanks Caine... you haven't never steered me wrong so I definitely know she is worthy of a serious deep dive. Her voice and the instruments in this had already convinced me. 😅😅 Your seal of approval solidified it. Hope you are well, my friend.

OMG :) Loreena. :D My first music revelation (which means band/musician who`s under mass media radar and has to be discovered on one`s own). The Warning is actually third. :) Nights from the Alhambra is not an album, but concert record. Her ballads/sung poetry are absolutely mesmerizing. Don`t tell me You`ll be doing Agnes Obel next. :D P.S. Whole this show is a must see, but first? Perhaps "The Mummers` Dance".

P.S. And in the spirit of October, she wrote this before her fiancé died in a jet ski accident.

Canadians, historically, have accents that are deeply influenced by English, Irish, and Scottish. Go listen to a Newfoundland accent, for instance (Republic of Doyle). Of course, the impact of American culture on Canada is changing Canadian speech and accents. There are many different variety of pipes.
