The only reasons to have a Part 3 are: - Completing the Fireflies arc with Abby. - Giving Ellie the peace she deserves. In fact, Ellie was treated quite unfairly by the authors in Part 2. In comparison, Abby's arc worked just fine: Abby started as a vengeful bloodthirsty killer and ended being a somewhat good person again. She lost a lot through this process, of course, losing all her friends, and that's ok, storywise: she had her revenge, and it came at a cost. Ellie too had her revenge, but her cost was greater, without a real reason. In Part 1, both Joel and Abby's father were guilty of not giving Ellie a real choice about whether to sacrifice herself for the good of humanity or not: both had it coming. So if Abby was somewhat justified in avenging her father, Ellie was as much justified as her in avenging Joel. Nonetheless, Abby ends up having lost everything, but having also found hope again. While Ellie loses everything, period. She ends up with no hope, no peace, no love, no friends. Even the chance to remember Joel playing the guitar is lost for her: this in particular appears to be pointlessly cruel. Ellie didn't deserve this. Ellie already suffered enormously in Part 1. Her reaction to Abby and her friends uselessly and cruelly risking their lives walking hundreds of miles just to kill Joel right in front of her eyes (like if she was guilty of something) is completely justified. She being alone at the end with no friends or family, still looking for an inner peace that revenge couldn't give her, that was just fine. Making her lose her fingers... That was too much.

I remember reading somebody's abridged synopsis of a Part II revision. Basically following the story of Abby only, lulling the player into this false sense of new adventure and trauma for this character they don't know, who's people and friends are slowly being hunted down viciously and with a personal vengeance. Then retell in separated flashbacks what happened to Abby, how she met Joel and Ellie and how they saved her and how she traveled with them for quite some time, not a brief escape. But as Abby's story continues and she saves and takes in that new kid, the flashbacks slowly reveal what happened to her after she met Joel and the first incidents with the killing of her people. Finally accumulating to the reveal of how she and her group tricked and ambushed Joel and Ellie and how she murdered Joel and left Ellie for dead, believing she did die that night. Then the final chapter of the game was playing as a fully kitted Ellie hunting down Abby while also replaying flashbacks of how she hunted those people down, how she ruined her relations with other people, and how angry and miserable she really was, only to finally reach Abby. Then in the final confrontation he gave the choice, would the player as Ellie murder Abby after learning what she did or will they have developed enough of a relationship with this character to forgive her even after everything that's happened. And quite frankly I think that's the better way to tell the story. I understand players want to play as Ellie and do their story but forcibly chopping up the game to make you play as Abby seemed so aggressively unwanted sometimes, especially after seeing what she did in the first 1 hour of the game. There is no reason to like her and even after doing her plot it's like, fuck you kiddo I hated you the moment you picked up that nine iron. But to start with Abby and go so far with Abby letting the player get to know Abby and watch her become scared and anxious about the events that are occurring because of something she ultimately did that was yet to be revealed to the players, gives them a reason to get to like Abby. Show a side of her as a person with their own background and their own mistakes, show her as a person who was just doing what they thought was right but realizing that their mission was a mistake. If the game wanted me to care about Abby they shouldn't have made her be the villain right from the get go, they should've given us time to be her and be with her, to at least get a real good judgment of her character. Then after revealing her killing of Joel let the player decide if they can forgive her or not.

I think Ellie and Abby's paths will cross again in Part 3. Ellie is still immune. She'll probably feel that at this point her only purpose for living is to use her immunity to help develop a vaccine, or something of the like. With the Firefly's being the only group this far that had an ability to develop a vaccine, and with Abby having made contact with who we presume are Firefly's in Santa Barbara, it wouldn't surprise me if they meet again. Regardless, I hope we get to play as Abby again in Part 3. I got kind of attached to her and Lev by the time the game was over.

Her motives were understandable...and Joel probably could easily have done the same thing she did if the roles were reversed (and Ellie did do the same thing, save that Ellie was able to let her live in the end). No quarter was given to Robert, for example and, though he tried, he didn't even kill Tess. The ending preserved Ellie as the noblest of the many flawed characters in the game, imo. That said, to each his own. No one is going to love every game (I just saw a video that said first game was "garbage") and there is nothing wrong with that.

It's already confirmed that they're working on part 3. But I do agree that they need to continue from where it left off. A lot of people, from what I heard, were like, "that's it?" My friend and I discussed it and he talked about how it seemed confusing as to why Ellie didn't just finish off Abby. She went out of her way to go all that distance to California to find her, and when she gets to the point of drowning her, she has a small moment of remembering Joel on the porch, which makes her not drown her, and let her go. I do believe that there is a deep meaning to her doing this than what most people think, but the way they go about it does seem to be really vague, in a way. It's something that an expert in psychology I believe should analyze, idk. But yeah. Having a part 3 to at least clear up what happens at the end, explain what went through ellie head to make that decision would be nice to see.

At the end of TLOU2, Abby didn't want anything to do with the whole Ellie situation anymore, she just wanted peace, so i don't think she would ruin that peace she has now just to hunt Ellie again

Well said I always wondered if there would be like some kind of twist, where either Joel had a nephew or a son in a diffrent marriage or better yet if it’s long enough, Tommie‘s kids, either way would be cool to accompany Ellie on this journey, and it would be interesting. If at some point they come across Abby and here , possibly an Abby /come back arc for killing Joel ? or Are joel’s family (Ellie and some form or family vs Abby and her people - just all kill each other in chaos? I think that would be an interesting story, and along the way they find another civilization of people kind of like a settlement like Tommie‘s family and friends - but city like -survivor city ( And Dina has settled there with her son ) - And the reason for such a thriving civilization -at the time is cause some nasty break out happened so they all infected left the streets ….and little did I know they’re underneath in the tunnels - That would be an interesting throwback to the show, I like how they did that in episode five !

I would like the story to be about maybe JJ being immune from idk Ellie’s saliva or blood did something to him while he was in Dina’s womb, make some sort of scientific sounding thing up. But maybe there’s a former firefly in Jackson who has heard about them regrouping in Santa Barbara and over hears that JJ is immune so he flees to the fireflies to reveals that ti them. So the fireflies are hunting JJ down and cause chaos in Jackson, kidnap JJ and Ellie and Dina has to mount a rescue of JJ M, to where Ellie now finally understands Joel’s actions and comes to terms with them and is able to finally find peace and fully forgive him. But also Abby can find redemption by betraying the fireflies and realized what they were going to do to Ellie in the first game was wrong and seeks forgiveness for killing Joel so she sides with Ellie eventually to get JJ back.

I think they should make a DLC instead of a new game. They can make a somewhat short story about Ellie fixing all her friendships, and her relationship with Dina, and the challenges that come with it. For a reasonable price, this little storyline could be popular.

I kinda made a part three in my head in the past month: A new character is itroduced and he got some wisdom for the story, his face is covered with a pair of sunglasses and a face mask, his wish is to cross the world after his dad's death, he travlels half of US and all of south and central America in the past 7 years while back in US to vizt the rest and also Canada all the way to Alska he founds Abby and Lev and has a small talk with them and opens theyr minds and a bit later in game he will finde Ellie and take her with him in his journy, he will teach her life lessons that his dad teach him. Just bc i frogot "Tom" will go trought Jackson and will have a talk with Tommy and he will understand everything that happend bc "Tom" while he was in Texas he saw a grave with the name Sharah Miller. "Tom" was 7 when the outbrake started and now he is 32 or 33

I think pt. 2 was amazing and really is down to earth. In the first game (and unknown 20 years with Tommy) you’ve killed COUNTLESS people. They’ve all belonged to someone. Put yourself in their families shoes. And Joel may be dead but hes not gone. He lives through Ellie and I hope we get to see more of her progress through finding herself and finding peace.

I thought part two was an amazing sequel also and I'm very critical of sequels, the story and theme was just very different to the first, it seems to be so divisive among fans though. I'm not saying that the story is necessarily better it's just very different and the world was still as atmospheric as ever! People just can't get over Joel dying even though he appeared in flashbacks still!

Ellie is NOT immune. This is going to be revealed soon on the show and I suspect it will be revealed in part III of the game as well. The developers really did their research on mycology is all I have to say. There is a viable solution to why Ellie doesn't turn or become infected that the writers included since the beginning but have not revelated to date. If the Fireflies went through with the procedure on Ellie it wouldn't have accomplished anything, this is further backed up by the voice recordings from the physicians/surgeons researching her as well as her blood work which is left on a table in the hospital in the game for you to inspect; there's only one conclusion and it's that Ellie IS infected with a DIFFERENT strain of cordyceps than the one causing the main brain parasitic take over affecting all the infected in the game; and that version of cordyceps as it hypothetically does in real life negates by literal destruction of the cells and microbial life any other cordyceps found in Ellie's blood. The cordyceps in her blood is almost like a blood type incompatible with all other blood types and therefor prevents infection, this explains why the physician discusses in the game why her white blood cells aren't reacting to the infection like every other observed infected person and yet she has a high level of cordyceps in the blood. Ellie's immunity is not the result of a mutation... it is due to a different parasitic fungal strain incompatible with all other strains that Ellie would have picked up before she originally was bit with her friend.

Plus its not possible to create a vaccine to fight a fungus, vaccines and the principle on which they work are viable only for viruses. It was never the original intent of the story writers for there to be a vaccine derived from Ellie. If anything a naturally occurring fungus will eventually be discovered that will provide permanent immunity to those that have it within their blood.

Yeah, in the first game they show us that info, thats why Ellie had to die to make a "vaccine". But, in other words, I think we can say that she is immune, afterall what is the definition of immunity? She was not born immune, but the reality is that she is immune now, since the mutant strain of the cordyceps is forever attached to her organism and Will only be separated after her death. Considering that she can get bit by many different infecteds and not get turned, i would call her immune. (Srry about the english, It is not my native language).

I think it’s supposed to happen.. currently im pretty sure naughtydog already started on part-3 .. So hear me out, basically 2nd part is completely based on blind rage/revenge from both protagonists(Abby and Ellie). Yes I called Abby a protagonist because she’s no different than ellie .. and also just coz she killed a character(joel) we loved so much and connected to, doesn’t mean she’s any less good than ellie. Both of them killed undeserving people. It’s just a matter of perspective. That’s the reason we were allowed to play both their stories equally .. to understand where the rage is coming from for things they’ve done. I think part-3 will be more focused on them leaving behind the past, slowly healing and even teaming up against a common enemy.. mark my words.. That is the only way naughtydog can show character development for those 2 .. anyways that’s just my theory.. :)

Abby doesn’t need healing, she got her revenge served on a silver plate and NEVER showed any remorse. Her ptsd was still from her dads death which she already overcame in part 2 while Ellie has ptsd from her revenge which maybe did or did not go away after she forgave abby

Her father got murdered, her friends are killed, Lev and herself were tortured by those people at the end and left to die on the beach hanging.. Ellie also started healing at the end of part-2 when she left the guitar and all her belongings at her ranch house. So the healing process already started for both.. They will team up in part-3 watch.. it would be interesting to see how tommy’s and abby’s dynamics will be build..

A fitting plot for the 3rd installment would be Ellie fixing her bridges while still being tormented by her past, people she’s lost and abandoned her, considering it’s what she dreads most and is occurring now, which is why she’s so desperate to fix those bridges but a nice touch would be a spiritual Joel following her around, guiding her and assisting her with certain choices. what she might’ve left behind by leaving the guitar was the grudge she holds on Abby but not necessarily leave Joel entirely behind, I mean she just can’t leave someone like that impactful behind she will always cherish and hold those memories near and dear close to her heart. I’m also devastated of the events of part two, but it showed so much growth for Ellie to break that cycle there instead of letting it root further, by Ellie sparing Abby, Lev might actually have a chance at surviving, and not lev growing up to hate Ellie and seek further vengeance, I’ll miss Joel always but he doesn’t need to die there, he can still continue living on in Ellie’s memories.

She knew killing Abby wouldn’t bring her closure in the end. But the game should also involve her going on new adventures. Maybe it jumps a few years and some new threat emerges.

Part 2 was dark, bleak and depressing. It was beautiful. Ellie’s Seattle trip was more out of love than revenge but she still ended up with absolutely no one and nothing. To me, the whole story of part 2 seems like the middle of a trilogy. What’s weird is that people complain about “oh, you did all these things and went all this way to not kill Abby” and then don’t understand that that’s exactly the point of the second game. It’s about the dark and irrational side of love and the things that people will do because They feel they have to, selfless or evil and in the end Ellie just became Abby and Abby became Joel. Joel admittedly did take away the entire meaning of Ellie’s life and do think that a good chunk of her reasoning to go to Seattle comes from a sense of “I need to find some meaning and reason to my life”, mourning Joel and never getting the chance to be in good terms with Joel before he died. This game is fantastic, it’s like being a part of a 25 hour movie. The issues were mainly with the structure of the story for me. It started falling off when you start the Santa Barbara section with Ellie and correct me if I’m wrong but I do believe that ND did cut out a good chunk of the California gameplay. The only other thing, and it’s not really a problem, is that the story has the habit of building huge amounts of tensions and then dissipating them in an anticlimactic.

I think people are just upset that they had to wait 8 years for sequel, and this was the best 2 lousy writers could come up with. The story was too ambitious them, and they weren't creative enough to really follow through. They had a seemingly endless budget from their successful streak. They have some of the best animators and level designers, a solid cast of actors, and an improved gameplay system. What could go wrong? At the end of the day, the story is the weakeast part of the game. it's only held up by animations, level design, and gameplay. The game has good moments, but it's with established characters. It's why everyone loves Ellies flashbacks. The new cast of characters, specifically Abbys group, are at a disadvantage since they only appear in this game and what they do? You'd think they'd give them the strength of strong writing to make them likable and interesting, right? Half of them only show up in cutscenes and then die in cutscenses with little character to them. The ones that do get screen time just aren't likable or interesting, for that matter. Abbys flashbacks do noting to flesh out her diverse cast. I thought we were gonna play as her after the events of the hospital and the squads journey to the WLF in search of purpose, but we didn't get that. Couple that with a weak contrived plot that throws common sense out the window, and you get this mess of a game. Don't even get me started on the pacing issues. that's another headache.

Although I think people overreacted to the decision of the ending I get why people are upset perhaps the identity of Joel’s killer should have been revealed at the end of the game and while Ellie searched for the killer Abby did her thing and the player would have no idea who Abby was until near the end or middle. That way people would have had more of a chance to get to know Abby instead of having a bad first impression of her. Also maybe have a choice at the end to kill her or spare her. But I thought tlou 2 was fantastic and I think people just overreacted to how it ended because of our rage culture

They should have the story focus on some new people trying to surive or maybe a town that is under attack from another group, then somehow ellie finds them and decides to help show them how to fight and surive, so maybe she can find some peace and redemption in helping others. They could end it with her finding abbie and the fireflies, settling they're differences once and for alll, then letting kill her for the cure.
