Why is it shark like? The sharks already investing, is a gamble in itself...and especially half a million dollars. SHE projects to make 6 million the next year and as Robert says, only then would her valuation make sense and he would feel comfortable in his investment. The extra equity is insurance for Robert, just incase...which was extremely brilliant on his part.

I think the first time I saw this kinda deal was with some product that had a 20 million dollar valuation and Mr. Wonderful offered a similar structure. I think it’s unbelievably smart and fair. Biggest problem a lot of people coming into the tank have is going off of potential value vs actual current worth. There are times the sharks love the product and idea but on the businesses that will take multiple years to see a return, the sharks can’t make a real offer because they’ll own half the business to make the evaluation make sense.

Smart and fair? More live this gives them no incentive to help the company short-term. They'd be better off letting her do her thing for a year in bad faith, keep her short of threshold, and then give her access to their help.
