Personally, I don't like to use nail polish for a craft in this way, because nail varnish is made to not last very long. It can discolor with age and over time it can start to come right off. It will especially peel off if you are using it in a way where it will be handled at all. In a charm, on a necklace or ring for example. The other options are all great, but I think the uv resin looks the best and would probably last longer too. Plus you have the option of adding glitter, like you mentioned. ❤️ Love your craft videos! It's great to see you doing them regularly again!
@LoriensCraftBox8 жыл бұрын
UV resin also yellows over time, unfortunately. I'm not a huge fan of using nail polish as a sealant because it's hard to get an even coat on larger pieces.

atelierlorien none of my uv resin pieces are old enough to see the discoloration yet! Didn't know! 😂

I second the thumbs down on nail polish top coat. There's a good reason so many companies are coming out with non-toxic nail polish formulas: the chemicals in regular nail polish are seriously bad and cancer causing. Why expose yourself to that?
@melissad88244 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of videos showing the UV resin will not stick to the shrink plastic long term and your dome will eventually pop right off unless you basically sandwich the shrink plastic inside the UV resin (by doing a UV coat on both sides of the shrink plastic and making sure the two coats wrap around the edges of the plastic enough to touch at the edges and seal together). The videos showed this problem happening with both cheap and expensive UV resins. One video suggested coating the shrink plastic piece with mod podge first, letting that completely dry, then doming with UV resin. But then you have to deal with trying to get the mod podge on evenly without any bubbles. So I'm guessing the spray would be the best route to take as long as you use the right protective gear and work in a well ventilated area.

I can confirm the uv resin does not work at all

with anything that bleeds... (e.g. permanent makers would bleed when touched with anything that has a solvent in it like nail polish has because the solvent keeps it fluid)... you all might like to try sealing the artwork first with an Spray Sealant specifically made for Art Works, then when that is dry, it should not smudge anymore, and you could then try to varnish it without it bleeding... just a thought.

hi just wondered if you had actually done the scratch test on any of these? ive been into shrinky plastic for years , but then stopped as coouldnt find suitable sealant, that wouldnt scratch or wear off. like i love the embossing podwer and heat gun method and looks good, but it scratches off so easily, everything ive tried, polyurethane sealants modg podge triple thick or triple x whatever its called and many many more all of therm have just scratched off, only things i havent tried are the uv resin and the mister super clear. so have you done scratch test on either of those? many thanks, heres hoping you manage to see this and respond x

I only recently got into shrink plastic and I used dimensional mod podge. The first 4 pieces I did were fine but I did experience color bleeding with the last one I did. The person I made it for didn't mind, at least. I'm considering going for resin or something similar even if it might be more expensive. I wish I could help a little bit more, but at least this issue isn't uncommon.

@@JulyssaMT Hey thanks abunch :) Just yesterday my sister bought me Elmer's Multipurpose Spray Adhesive in hopes to use it as a sort of sealer to divide the shrink and mod podge away so the ink doesn't have the chance to smudge. I have been trying for so long to get my shrinky dinks to come out. The shrink plastic paper I got had break reviews but every single time I do it it's doesn't really shrink, it doesn't get hard. Not like it should be. And it curls to the point where there's no wait to flatten it out. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. What type do you use?
@minimissmai4 жыл бұрын
I think you didn’t let it bake in the oven long enough. I normally ignore the minutes directions. I let it stay in the oven until it curls up and goes back down flat and quickly take it out of the oven and flat it with something hard like my wooden cutting board. If you take it out while it’s curling then you can’t go back and bake it anymore and it won’t shrink. It only shrinks after it curls if that makes sense. I hope this helps.

mashae brodie I love using embossing powder. It makes it shiny and rock hard. After shrinking my pieces I use a clear embossing ink in a stamper bottle by STAMPENDOUS, then use a spoon to sprinkle a moderate amount of CLEAR ULTRA THICK EMBOSSING POWDER by RANGER on top. I place it on parchment paper and stick it back in my toaster oven at the same temperature I shrunk them at originally. I keep an eye on them and just let it melt completely then remove from the oven and let cool. Hope this helps😊

So I’m here, I’ll update my comment if anything’s changed and i found a clear answer But basically here because i used permanent marker and nail polish before on my shrinky dinks and I’ve gotten it to work without bleeding but usually it bleeds My one theory is I’ve put one of them under a led lamp for awhile and it kind of “cooked” the marker lines but i have yet to figure out how long it takes for it to set under a lamp without it bleeding I hope my comment can be of some help or guidance to someone Update: thin sharpie marker and clear polish will bleed the least, just put it under a lamp or sunlight for a while after it’s done baking

Hi! I've tried some of these myself and I have a few "questions"; I used Resin (but not UV resin; it's called "Crystal Resin" here) and it gets quite sticky even after curing. Is that normal with any kind of resin, or should I use another type? Also, when I used nail polish it smudged all the charm :c well, just the parts that were drawn with permanent marker. Is that normal? Does anything of these makes sense, happened to anyone or am I just a failure at crafting? jajaja
@LoriensCraftBox8 жыл бұрын
If you're using 2 part resin, it may need to be mixed a bit more! Are you using alcohol based markers? That's the only reason I can think of :/
@archanachaudhari83893 күн бұрын
The ideal climate for working with resin is between 70-75°F (21-24°C) and a humidity level below 50%. You should maintain this temperature throughout the curing process.

To preserve the colour, I decide to use some clear nail polish and it was *fucking ruined.* The colours and lines got smudged and completely bled into each other, there was no saving it. With a heavy heart, I wiped the design away with rubbing alcohol. I am left with a blank charm that I don't know what to do with. I'm fucking pissed.
