I had a problem with mice in an apartment I rented in college. I did not like finding mice in traps or dead from poison. So I got a cat and left him to roam in the apartment. I never saw another mouse or mouse dropping after that. The mice knew better than to come into my apartment with my cat roaming about. It was a clean non toxic method to get rid of the mice.

No they don’t. Mongoose were imported for our agricultural rat problem but NO one seemed to notice that rats are nocturnal but mongoose are not. Consequently we have rats eating crop during the night and mongoose eating crops in the day. Importing mongoose failed big time in HAWAII.

You can't beat a good cat as a rodent-controller. Cats are certainly made for the job. But, you must allow them to hunt at night, and you must allow the cat access to dark crawl-spaces, cupboards, and any dark confined spaces where rodents shelter. Along with the cats, they need to plant Rosemary, Citronella, Catnip and other natural plants that are deterrents for fleas along the city. The cats, will roll around those plants to play and by aggravating the plant, getting it on their coat for flea protection. With no host, in cold weather the fleas will die.
