🇨🇱 THE JAIVAS: They are pioneers of a style of music that seeks to rescue "the primitive sound" of the people originating from the South American land (Andean and Chilean) and also of "Latin American folklore" (music that was born from the musical and cultural mix of the Spanish Empire (invading ) with the native peoples (invaded)). All this music played with traditional rock instruments (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, piano, etc.) + indigenous and/or folk musical instruments. In summary: Progressive rock + psychedelic rock + native music + folk music + details of classical music (piano especially). PS: You must "imagine" similarly as if in your country (USA) a Rock group rescued the music of the Apaches, the Sioux, the Cherokees or the Cheyennes (to name a few) and will play it in the 21st century. Greetings from Santiago of Chile 🇨🇱, South America. In the second track , the instruments that sound like a pan flute are an ocarina and some tarcas (it is a type of Andean flute) and the other wind instrument that sounds like a trumpet is actually a trutuca (Mapuche instrument that consists of a long tube with a cow's horn on the tip), great reaction , I hope you continue reacting to the jaivas, I recommend the song "Mira Niñita", a good example of the variety of his music.

Hi JP. DP from UK. The Great God Pan Is Alive! And the blend of his pipes and other traditional flutes, whistles and drums with prog & rock instrumentation is fabulous. Like you, I really like the opening track on side 2, Aguila Sideral. The pan pipes were popularised in the 70s by Romanian musician Gheorges Zamfir, on film soundtracks; he even had a single in the Top Ten here. And I wouldn't have known what an ocarina was (a ceramic pipe), if it weren't for a UK TV show called The Repair Shop where they repaired one. P.S. my song lyric The Great God Pan Is Alive is by The Waterboys (from The Return Of Pan).

Some interesting things here and not all the usual cliches so I'll keep listening. A lot of very diverse influences pulled into this. My ears pricked up at 9:10 on your reaction counter - I hear the solo section of Soft Machine's Moon In June - not just in the chord progression but in the dynamics - I'm guessing the writer is a fan.

Very interesting hybrid of traditional Andean music and prog! I've never heard anything like it. A worthy effort, with many good moments and features - enjoyable, but I have to admit it strikes me as a little clunky on both counts. The Andean dimensions sweep up my heart as always, but aren't near best of class, and the prog elements are a little ham-handed to my ear, lacking in subtlety and finesse, both in synth tunings and melodies. It's a bit of a forced marriage here, though I suspect a more seamless merger is possible. But if you love the Andean sound, I have a recommendation. He's little known compared to the big acts like Inti-Illimani (who are great), but my absolute favorite album in this category of modern traditional Andean music is Sembrando Maiz by Oscar Reynolds Sainz (credited as Oscar Reynolds on his other albums). This is really worth a go sometime, to spice up a long song Saturday with some tasty world music ethnic sounds!
@Eduardo-Ferreira1982

Olá, Eduardo here 😊 I know Inti-Illimani (who doesn't?) but never heard of Oscar. I'll check it out. Justin is reaching one of my main goals: to react to non-english speaking music. There's a world out there (as Graceland would tell you / show. - for many, this was the entrance to the so called world music. (read about David Byrne, for instance, deconstructing this "genre"). But we must remember Simon & Garfunkel did El Condor Pasa as early as 1970. Ahah, (cause we're talking about andean music) but a French singer, (I'll bring you her name right in a minute, I always forget her name) did a cover of the same theme in the sixties. And since we're listening the Nobel prize Pablo Neruda on music (see, Justin?, another major achievement for your channel), I must mention that Mikis Theodorakis recorded Neruda as well, in one of his most known albums worldwide, called simply "Canto General". About the mixture of rock and traditional folk (this case, Chilean, andean music), Quilapayún did it before (any kind of disregard for Los Jaivas, just one more info for we all at this channel). Thank you, Justin and all friends who subscribe your videos.

The French singer (I've heard some of her albums - and she's not like any other of her contemporaries - and she was really good) is Marie Laforêt. She recorded it in 1968. Two years before Simon and Garfunkel.

So you didn´t hear very well, do you? If you can provide time of errors, when? Would you expected a music like that? Try to create folk prog, master played, with about 10 instruments. This people were luthiers indeed. By the way, Oscar Reynolds created a new world of music? Are yo friends, ha? Otorhinolaryngology centre is yor next stop. As an aural experience, this begins by being reminiscent of a late 60s album, Paul Horn playing flute "Inside The Dome Of The Taj Mahal" kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYLElndrm7xkqNksi=xiDt6KKuGGpxv-Pk After that it develops more fully, thankfully beyond the occasional Pan Pipes buskers with miniature P.A., to somewhere between El Condor Pasa by Simon and Garfunkel and a Santana album. Is this a genuine musical fusion, or just cultural appropriation for the sake of a novel sound? Reading the account in Wikipedia, I think I'd support the latter line of reasoning. It sounds as if the band, having migrated to Paris to form a music commune, were recruited by a record producer with a half-cooked notion which eventually got them out of their doldrums. They seem to have been short of significant inspiration of their own. It doesn't seem to have worn terribly well from a 70s/80s music standpoint; it has its moments of musicianship but I find the composition and arrangements derivative and dated.

I am sorry if I have upset or even offended you, but my interpretation of the use of the root material differs from yours. I don't question the integrity of the original poetic work, or even the selective use of its text. It is the music that it is set to that grates on my ear; if anything is culturally appropriated, it is the 'European' elements of the music, and for me that does not serve the poem well. As for Pink Floyd's composition of Echoes, that happened a year or two before they were encouraged to perform in Pompeii by the director of the resulting film. The photography, selection of additional footage and the edit are his work, not Pink Floyd's.@@nelsonfuentes9175

GTF, there is no other music, any were, like this virtuous, trully luthiers musicians. They get their inspiration from the beginnings in latinoamerican music psycho and rock prog. @@georgedavis-stewart4225Para gustos colores.

A bit niche, but there were a couple of ok tracks here. Glad I've heard it, but I'm not gagging to hear more. The Andian, prog, folk hybrids in partic I found a little disjointed, bitty. Fave track, No.6, which seemed more straight Mariachi. And who doesn't love a bit of Mariachi.
