Was watching a game John was calling. One team was getting their ass handed to them. Camera zooms in on the huddle, quarterback looks like a combat victim, dirt all over his uniform, grass tufts in the helmet. John astutely comments, "You know your team's offense is in trouble when the quarterback's uniform is dirtier than anyone else. RIP John. Though he didnt create the Madden Football franchise I am super glad that the creator of Electronic Arts ended up getting his 3rd choice to endorse the game, legendary John Madden. First choice was Joe Montana and second choice was Joe Kapp and finally 3rd choice was John Madden. Montana couldnt cause of contract with Atari and Kapp wanted royalties from the game so Kapps greediness lead Electronic Arts to John Madden. Again super happy that that played out cause the video game wouldnt of been as good as it was without Madden's input and legendary sayings. Just found this all out from an article in USA Today and I could never imagine Madden Football being nothing but Madden Football.

@Tea Gene I wasnt gonna get in the discussion of who the greatest coach ever was cause there is a few that can be labeled that like Lombardi, Walsh, Halas, and some people will even name coaches like Ditka and Andy Reid. The greatest part of John's appearance on SNL was the story he told of when Ted Hendricks accidentally dropped some loose change into a locker room toilet. He watched him standing there for a minute, looking at the money, before he reached into his pocket, peeled off a few bills, and dropped them into the toilet as well before kneeling down to fish them out. When John asked him what he was doing, Hendricks replied, "You don't think I'm reaching in there for only a few cents, do you?" 🤣 I hope SNL can show that episode on tonight's 10 pm rewind.

What a great skit! So many extra subtle side jokes, and John was great. They don't make 'em like him anymore. He was a made man in the Raider Nation. May he forever feast on turducken! RIP

I'll always hold that cast near and dear cuz being born in 69, I was a tad too young to understand all of the humor the original years produced, even though I remember alot of it. But the all new cast at that time, of Murphy, Piscopo, Kazarinski, Hall, Dukes, Shortman, and a very young Julia Louise Dreyfus, was very special to me.
