Hey Matey, Sorry to see this back on the bench! I feel your pain. I am still waiting for replacement ring and pinion for the rear. Owned the car from day 1 and used it for times and each time something broke. First the dog bones, then the wheel fell off, then the ring and pinion went and finally the light bars stopped working. While I have been waiting for the warranty ring and pinion, I sourced some form USA (got stung for import duty), fitted that plus shimmed everything. Run the car once since then it started making noise from centre diff despite being shimmed. Stripped this down and found that I need another shim on the outside of the diff to push the centre ring and pinion closer together. Tested it once and seems better but will give it a proper run this weekend! I have had a long chat with LogicRC (UK distributor) about the delays on parts and the poor quality of the build, they say they are passing on my comments. Asked if others are having similar issues, and said no only the dog bone issue! So that means that we are unlucky, they are not fessing up to the size of the issue or that people simply are not complaining about the quality (unlike of KZbin). So my plea is for people with issues with the Lasernut is to contact LogicRC and complain and get them to see warranty parts (if you have not already done so). This is the only way the Horizon will appreciate the size of the issue and the depth of dissatisfaction! I hope this latest wrenching fixes yours as I agree when it works it is brilliant!

Thanks for the video. One of the most informative I've seen about the lasernut, but many are saying the same - its an amazing car, but a pain in the backside. Totally agree with you, people shouldn't be so forgiving about products that dont perform as they should. I've just bought a Hobao Hyper VSe and fitted a 6s system, had its first bash with no issues so far, fingers crossed. The lasernut has been top of the list for my next car, i really want it but its not going to happen until i hear about improvements in quality.

ive bashed the ever lovin crap out of mine with no issue than the rear diff i pulled the diff and oil was broke down a quick youtube search and found the ear plug fixed 4$ and a day later better than new, if something breaks and fixing it is an issue this hobby isnt for you trust me ive been aggravated many times but oh well i reccomend the lasernut

Maybe you were one of the luck ones - iv found loads of people have had very few problems and then others who have had different experiences. As you say, you've been aggravated, so I'm not going to purchase something that I know will aggravate me. I still want a Lazernut but I think ill stick to the DB Pro as my next one.

Same luck here - 3 times out - two broken drive shafts - 4 stripped out wheels and now 3rd time out rear end has went out and possibly center diff - I’m currently working with Support to get parts and hopefully some preventative suggestions - It’s a complete turd compared to my other Traxxas and Arma products

just got back into RC thanks to the pandemic. My first purchase was the Lasernut. Really wanted this car on looks alone so regardless of the bad reviews I bought it. Out the box, awesome but after a few runs, it started trippin. Shimmed the center diff, runs like like butter now. I feel your pain man, no way out the box should diffs be the issue with minor bashing.

Did u re-shim the gears? I changed the rear gear box to vitavon but it turns out center diff is the issue, probably just stripped with too much torque. Should I shim it tighter or replace with aluminum diff case?

I blew my rear diff too! The bearing exploded and the pinion ripped the heck out of the housing. Sorry, Paul. Hopefully things improve. Horizon got me parts in about a week. Waiting on shims before I rebuild it.

Hey, sorry to hear about the diff. I've written reviews at Amain, Hub Hubby (where I bought the Lasernut) and Horizon all saying that I love it but wait for V2. I apologize that this is so long, but I figured I would put it out there in case it helps someone. But seriously do not buy this RC now, wait for V2 !!! The TEN SCTE 3.0 kit is very similar to the LN. My neighbor just put one together a few weeks ago. On my Lasernut I just installed a new rear diff, and rebuilt the center diff. (guess I'll do the frt now!) I installed the complete SCTE rear diff as described in the SCTE manual. All part number are in the manual. TLR332001 HD Diff housing (Frt/Rear), LOSB3569 Diff gear set, J&T 5x11x4 bearings (I bought LOSA6947 but put in the upgraded aftermarket ones), TLR232053 Pinion bearing Spacers (this hopefully is key), LOS23232024 center drive coupler, LOSA6956, 12x18x4 ball bearings, and LOSB3575, Fr/R HD Lightened Outdrive set. I used the stock ring and pinion to keep the gearing the same. My initial issues were hogging out center rear and right rear outdrives, Then blowing the rear. I have installed the SCTE setup with the above parts, no spider gear shims and minimal pinion shims, one shim I think. My Lasernut from the factory had shims on all spider gears. When I installed the shims in the SCTE diff housing it was way too tight. The SCTE instructions don't show any shims, The SCTE case is a much different grade plastic, the SCTE diff gear set is beefier too. I'm using stock 5k rear, 20k center, 10k front fluids. I'm treating this like a car. I'm not RC expert by any stretch but I have rebuilt a bunch of manual transmissions and front wheel drive diffs. Shimming is extremely important in real cars. Getting the turning torque of the diff to spec is critical. Having gears too tight is in my experience can cause problems. I think owners have had different issues. I had shims in my center diff from the factory and didn't have a center diff problem. The rear diff did go and I think that the problem there is a weak diff case. In the real world I've blown up a trans because of the case flexing, then breaking an input shaft. Stiffening up the case made the problem go away. These parts above are the same for front and rear, (the ring and pinion are different). Our center diff case is much different (better) than the SCTE. I did install the SCTE gear set in the center diff along with the outdrives. Certainly don't take this as gospel. I'll put a half dozen packs through it and post a reply. Through all this, Horizon support has been great. They sent out everything I've broken. They even sent tires because I had a slice in one. The Lasernut will never be a Typhon. For the same money maybe people should just get that, it's an Infraction that goes anywhere.

Little update. So far I've put 3 3S packs through it and 1.5 4S packs (I only have one 4S battery). I ran the Losi on the railroad tracks near my house. On the side of the rail bed there are alot of woops. Car did its thing hanging in over the super tough terrain. Lots of air, angles, wheels up, working the diffs. I ran it as hard as I could and flipped it quite a few times.Ran a complete 3S through it then a complete 4S through it. To clarify on my setup, I was not able to shim the side gears in the diff housing because the SCTE 3.0 gear set are thicker gears and the case could be the slightest bit different. I tried shiming it a bit at first but then it was locked. Like I had to put a screwdriver through each outdrive to turn it. Just wanted to be clear why I didn't shim it with this setup. I couldn't shim the pinion for the same reason. This morning at full 4S speed I'm trying to make a gradual turn at the common downtown, I missed slightly, hit the wheel on a post and broke a rod end. The axles on these don't just break btw, they bend. Found that when I was changing the front diff. Luckily I was also running my new V5 Typhon, so my fun didn't end. I did hit a tree at no less than 30mph with the Typhon. It was really far away and a skinny tree. Surprised to hit it for sure. Typhon dead.... I check it out, plug the battery back in, no damage. Keep playing with the rest of the 4S pack after going through a complete 6S thrashing Same price as the Lasernut and can do everything the lasernut can do if you were to put 5.75" tires on it.

I suspect whoever built them did in a rush. I think either shim too tight or too loose. My next car will be a kit. RTR basically u still need to rebuild except u have to do without a good manual and unbuild and rebuild, more work and costs almost as much as kit.

What I do with my 3 Diff RCs...500k in center, 100k in rear, and 50k in front...Been amazing! Keep in mind after several packs the fluid breaks down some, so don't sweat the tightness in the start of the change over...Promise

I put my front center dip together dry shimmed it as tight as I can get it roll it around and felt it pulled it back apart took the gasket out of it put it back together silicone it and I've had no problems with it since the rear one I put the gasket back in it but I took the housing and sanded it the thickness of the gasket and made it thinner fixed it

I had to replace all the shafts with tekno parts, rebuild all diffs and the rear diff housing, The steering and 9 wheels bent lol. But i will say i after fixing all that stuff and adding like 12 extra shims through out and lots of extra grease as losi sent it out will grease in the diffs at all. Horrible execution on a great looking truck but after some work its great!

First thing I would check is throttle dual rate if not that recalibrate in settings only other thing I've seen is once I got an rtr rc out box had this issue ass motor cables a and c round the wrong way to esc

Had this car for a week and the drive shaft has just broken? A new one is supposed to be arriving in the next few days but I worry that that one is just going to break as well. I'm not as technically minded as you when I hear you talking about all the problems this car has had. Once the shaft is fixed do you think I should just sell it off? Its too much bother?

Hi Paul - it’s a shame I’m watching your video for Losi fixing tips. My DB Pro is 4 weeks old. The front Diff has failed already; upon strip down i noticed one of the screws holding the drive coupler at the front had also vanished. Same issue as you, the gears not binding correctly. The Tenacity DB Pro has a slight different Diff, so will need to do some investigation into how to shim properly, as first time doing such a thing. I agree with that you are saying about Losi - it’s ridiculous that a month in and I’m on the bench doing this type of repair - it’s been used 5 times. What’s the best way to complain to Losi, as I really feel like I want to - bad build quality as you’ve said; and only a lick of lubricant in the Diff. Cheers, Graeme PS. Good spot at the car park in North Queensferry - that’s actually where my Diff gave out. If you find a screw there, it’s mine.

LogicRC sent me a replacement gear set, but what I actually need are the right set of shims and replacement screw / coupler - doh. Grrr. I’ve complained to LogicRC about build quality. At this stage it doesn’t appear to have parts defects which the Lasernut seems to have (well maybe the wheels), rather just poorly put together. RTR - not really.

I have a lazernut and the diffs are worthless the truck stays broke. I also have the super baja rey 2.0 and that boy is a monster I hit big jumps and it has never let me. After 1 year of abuse my rear diff finally checked out and I was running that truck hard every day

Definitely get the tt pro over the lazernut, I bought the tt pro and a buddy bought the Lazernut at the same time and he has broke every time he brought it out. now with that said , I have ran mine about 10 times or more and now mine is breaking everytime, started with stripped out center gear (plastic), now metal, and then stripped 2 wheels, steering became extremely worn out, broke a front shock, and now just broke the rear end diff.The front bumper brace bracket stripped out, light bar quit working(not a big deal), I also changed out the steering servo because it sucked. If you plan on buying the tt pro, definitely buy new wheels, alot of extra parts, and add a heat sink and fan to the motor. It's a fast car and fun but lately it's been on the bench more then driving it. it's cheaper then the lazernut. I run mine on 3s all the time and I do run it hard. I don't think I would would buy losi again. Just my opinion.

and the mini8 i previously had, got like 200pack of 3s lipo os the same treatement with the same power to mass ratio and i did optimise the mini8 for maximum tork with smalest spur on motor and larger one on mainshaft AFTER 200 PACK the diff exit was halfway dug trought by the arm shaft and the mini 8 had ZERO diff issue

I'm trying to get a wheel replaced under warranty as its buckled. Wheelspin models stated that because its got marks on it (the colour has scraped off!) then I've driven it too hard so it probably won't be covered! Wtf, it gets smashed over rocks and does front flips in the promo video, and I've only run mine around a bmx track. I love the Lasernut, but I'm losing patience.

the damage done to your bearings from the minerals in the dirt left on it is not cosmetic, as soon as bearings start to go out they put alot of stress and wear on the rest of the parts around them, i change stock bearings out of cars pretty quick any more to avoid them eating diffs and stuff like this, remember that cleaning the dirt/water off the bearings its super important.

I honestly think the mixture of how heavy it is and bigger wheels too the 4s really too much for the drive train think if they had used 1/8scale drive none of these issues would have happened. Db Pro your correct with I was originally gonna go for one that car you never here a single problem

the chassis and drivetrain are based on a 2s shortcourse racer. the TEN-SCTE truck. LOSI screwed up by trying to run 4s with this car. I would convert to 2s and enjoy the scale vehicle.

It sucks Horizon won't let Arrma make a Desert Buggy. The Reely Raptor/FS Racing FS33675P/FS Racing Atom 6S is an exact copy of the Typhon 6S platform with all the scale looks, and it shows what an Arrma version could be. I've had a Typhon 6S for 3 years (running on 4S) and it's still going strong with no upkeep.

I bought one a month ago, put 100k lube in the center diff. Running stock 12 tooth pinion on 3s battery, 10 packs through and still NO ISSUES. I’ve been very happy with mine, they are not a go fast and bash rig. (4s at a skate park).

mine was black and i never had a basher i drive hard but my lastenut never left the ground it sucks cuz it is cool as hell looking and was fun but i stripped 3 wheels nuts were tight and the wheels w tires are 40 i bought 3 3 axles then rear end blew my hobby shop owner fixed that i went out to lot hit throttle and rear end exploded again i walked back in put it on his counter told him he can keep it no one would admit it was a pos and no one can spend 100 every time they run an rc he took pictures it was still new sent them to horizon he said bur either way he gave me back what the car cost the 160 i guess was a gift

I’ve been looking at getting into RC, this was one I looked at, but…after watching vids I thought hmmmm. Thing is I’d be starting from scratch, that means battery, charger, the car itself, only to be faced with this. It might have been a combination of a few things. I am not gonna defend Horizon here, but this is my thoughts. -The tires are huge, under load, the drivetrain has a lot to take -The bearings seem a lil rusty. They probably aren't rolling quite like they are used to -4s is a lot to take for a car this size with such big tires. Bashing it will just put strain on the drivetrain So. Again. I am not going to defend Horizon, it seems the car had issues in earlier versions. However, I believe that these things I mentioned just helped accentuate the weaknesses the diffs may have had. And to say big companies shouldn't make mistakes. I simply feel like Horizon is dipping their hands in too many things at once. They should honestly step up their game

Bearings hear are rusty but it started doing that from second putting ;( I repalced them a few times your right on the 4s car never should have been 4s as tyres putbso much on drivetrains I've rebuild it about ten times ran 3s most my after as thought may help but still went through 2 front diff's and 1 centre they should have gave it a 1/8 drive train currently i have it shelved until get vitavon diff casings they brought out beefier stuff for it such a shame as car could have been so good

I have two of these, one is dead one is not. The dead one died within 30 minutes of running on the dirt with gravel. Lol. Try to open the center differential & stripped out all the nuts. So now it's in the box brand new RC absolutely useless. Probably just sell one for parts and The other one before it breaks. 🙄❕✌🏼 ( you just look at these wrong and they break )

yea my friend i called horizon they canceled my warranty because i replaced a broken axle myself im a master auto tech bye trade ispent 160 so i told you i got my money back that was my local hobby shop who did that not horrizon i have been going to this hobby shop 30 years the day i paid for lazernut i spent 1800 on ab74 with electronics also a mini t w aluminum shocks a brushless system so i spent almost 3000 that day so he couldn’t even get his horizon rep to call him back so i was to the point that i just left the lazernut at his shop told him to keep it like i said another 160 i never took it off front yard i said when does it end when i have 5 grand in it so he called me and gave me my money back
