One could speculate that Jin was being controlling of Sun because he was afraid of what could happen now that they had been out of civilization. You have to realize that as far as he knew, neither of them spoke English and suddenly they found themselves stranded on an island with a over 40 strangers. There's no way to know how long they would be there, what kind of people they were stuck with or how quickly things could descend into chaos. Him constantly telling her to cover up was probably the only action he could think of to prevent any potential creeps on the island from getting any ideas. It might not make any difference, but it's stil something and he has to try. Clearly, he could have communicated that better, but as we see now, the two of them aren't exactly great at communicating. As far as calling her "ugly," I feel like that might have just been misconstrued. They had just survived a plane crash and he basically said she looked like shit. It's not the wisest thing a man should ever say to a woman, but he wasn't intending to call her ugly.

This where Jin became my favorite character. But watch the "boat" scene again. He wasn't trying to bond with Michael or join the group. He was pissed off and wants to GTFO. That's what I thought when I first watched the episode. His wife (whom he loved, feared he losing and was trying to get close to again) kept a MAJOR secret from him. This wasn't like she was learning French from a language course just because and sprung it on him at a fancy restaurant. Shlearned fluid English...and kept it secret on an island full of English-speaking crash survivors. It would have been very helpful. Maybe she could have played off learning English to help them on their trip to America...if she'd told him right away,but Sun waited until she had to speak up. And Sun made Jin look like a fool. That's what drove him away.

This was the episode where Jin became my favourite character too. I didn't like him before. But did an absolute 180. And I cold really relate (and still can) to how much of an outsider he is on the island because of the language barrier. It's like a metaphor for life for people who feel like they don't belong anywhere or fit in to a social group. I feel like that a lot of the time.

I love how Walt immediately starts trying to put the fire out when he sees his dad is going to do something to Jin. I think he realized he'd made a mistake and didn't want someone else getting in trouble for it. Also a fun little thing a lot of people don't notice.. Hurley's music has been the outro to every episode, and now it dies just in time to lead into HIS episode.

I guess they're focusing their 10mins on the parts they visibly reacted to. And this episode had many of those moments, they probably didn't have any more minutes left at the end for that scene. It's a great emotional scene but it's unlikely that they visibly reacted to it other than looking serious and sad, unless they teared up.

I might just start commenting how much I fucking love John Locke in each of these reactions. Everytime I watch a new Lost episode I go to american mums channel to see her reaction to the episode but it is also nice seeing season 1 in these reactions.
